5 reasons to visit the Alps in October

Despite the Alps’ reputation as a winter sports playground, there are also many reasons to visit in the interseason. The month of October is a great time to travel – resorts are usually quieter, holidays are cheaper, and the changing trees enrich the natural beauty of the mountains.

In this post, we highlight the top 5 reasons to visit the Alps in October, including:

  • Cheaper holidays
  • Romantic getaways
  • Remote working
  • Pet-friendly stays
  • Wellness retreats

Read on to find out more about each one!

Why visit the Alps in October?

1. Cheaper holidays

October is generally considered a ‘low-season’ month in the Alps. This means that holidays in general tend to be more budget-friendly and resorts are less crowded.

Accommodation and flights will be much cheaper than in the peak months of December, February, July and August and you won’t need to factor in the cost of a ski pass.

Another benefit of cheaper holidays is that you can take advantage of shorter stays. Throughout peak times, these are far more costly, therefore many people will opt for a quick mountain getaway in the interseason instead.

Do bear in mind that because October is an off-peak time, some businesses in the Alps may also take a holiday during this time. Make sure to check ahead of time before visiting certain restaurants, for example, or be aware that some services may be restricted.

2. Romantic stays

With the changing colour of the leaves, wrapping up for walks through the woods and drinking hot chocolates, October is the ideal time for a cosy romantic break with your loved one. Resorts are quieter and accommodation is cheaper, so it’s easier to find a great value chalet for two.

At OVO Network, our “Cool for Couples” partner properties are perfect for romantic getaways. Whether you’re looking for stunning mountain views, luxury features such as hot tubs and saunas or a secluded hideout for two, you’re sure to find your dream chalet.

What’s more, you’ll be able to enjoy endless activities together straight from your doorstep. Fitness enthusiasts can enjoy mountain biking, hiking or climbing, for example. And for foodies, there are plenty of Michelin-star restaurants for special occasions – or if you simply want to relax, why not visit a spa for a couples massage?
