Golf in France – tee off at altitude in the French Alps

The French Alps are not necessarily the first place that would jump to mind when considering where to spend your next golfing trip. But imagine this: teeing off on to quiet fairways, with mountain and lake views all around…
Golf in the French Alps is gaining popularity quickly. There are a real mix of courses ranging from charming family run nine hole courses to world famous championship courses.
There are a number of fantastic golf courses near or in many of our resorts. These are our five favourites.

Lake Annecy Golf Club

Lake Annecy Golf Club is an 18 hole course situated in the heart of the Roc de Chère nature reserve. At the foot of the mountains and overlooking the lake, it is an absolutely stunning course.
This moderately difficult course is hilly, with a number of fareways on a bank. The club is fairly relaxed and even allows dogs on the course, on the condition that they stay on lead.
The clubhouse also has a great restaurant where you can relax after a round in the sunshine with a good, fair priced meal.

Golf de Giez

Golf de Giez is situated at the south of Lake Annecy with unbelievable views of the lake and Mont Blanc.
The club has two great courses, the 18 hole ‘Bélvèdere’ course and the 9 hole ‘Castors’.
The 18 hole Bélvèdere course has a significant height variation, with the elevated holes benefiting from unparalleled views of the lake. The club is aware that the steep climb can be tough, especially in the heat of the summer months, and provides buggies, free of charge for the first few holes.

The course itself is moderately difficult with long fairways, interesting water features and awkwardly placed bunkers.
The 9 hole Castors course offers beginners and experienced players alike the opportunity to improve their game. Featuring a number of technical sections it is a great practice course.

Golf Les Gets

Golf Les Gets is a reasonably technical 18 hole course with sensational views from every hole. The course is set on terrain of varying height, making for an interestingly diverse round of golf!
This challenging course is situated at 1500m, high above the resort of Les Gets. It is recommended to hire a buggy, take plenty of water and a good number of spare balls! With stunning views from every hole this is a beautiful course.

An event not to be missed is the Vintage Golf day. This event sees golfers and non-golfers alike dressed in the garb of days gone by. An introduction to golf is held for those new to the sport as well as a scramble competition in teams of 2 for experienced players.
Vintage dress code is a must at this event! Try your hand with the old wooden clubs, have a shave with the traditional barber or get your photo taken by the photographer and his classic camera…
