Tips and ideas for cool kids’ bedrooms

Construction & Design
February 1, 2022

For part five of our “Essential facilities we know guests love” series, we focus on cool kids’ bedrooms. The days when bedrooms were just for sleeping, and so, therefore, required little planning, are long gone! 80% of OVO Network bookings include kids. During school holiday periods, that percentage increases to virtually 100%.

In this post, we showcase some of our favourite kids’ rooms, which have been cleverly designed to make good use of the space whilst maintaining a fun atmosphere for younger guests. Take a look at our top picks…

Single beds at different heights

Cool kids' bedrooms: Three beds and the play space at Chalet Alti.

With games, books and toys supplied by the owner, this bedroom has plenty of room and toys to keep little ones occupied. The space underneath the bunk bed also doubles up well as a great play space or room to store suitcases and bags.

Triple kids’ bedroom

Cool kids' bedrooms: Three kids beds in a row at Chalet Charmar

This room makes good use of the restricted headspace, has a stair gate, and a toy box full to bursting with soft toys. It’s a very cool kids’ bedroom for younger guests. Parents or older kids could take the next door bedroom to keep the whole family on one floor.

Bespoke family suite

Cool kids' bedrooms: A double bed, two single beds, and an ensuite bathroom complete this family suite at Chocoon Lodge.

The family suite also contains a private ensuite family bathroom. Decorated in soothing neutral colours, and with a mixture of fabrics, and a choice of ceiling, reading and bedside lamps, guests can set the mood they need any time, night or day. There is also a dorm room at this beautiful chalet.

Sets of bunks with curtains

Cool kids' bedrooms: Two sets of bunk beds and an ensuite bathroom at Chalet Explorer.

Custom made to perfectly fit the long narrow space available, this dorm room sleeps four guests. As well as curtains, each bed has an independent reading light and a shelf for drinks, books and other important stuff. The two lower bunks have pull-out drawers beneath. The lucky occupants have their own ensuite bathroom with a bath, double hand basins and a loo.

Bespoke fitted beds with storage

The owners have made clever use of the space provided in their kids’ rooms. Overlapping bunks as shown on the left create a fun and playful structure, with in-built cupboards for storing personal items. The dorm shown on the right is a great example of how to create a sociable space for younger guests, whilst adding separating walls for privacy.

A dorm room pull-out beds

Cool kids' bedrooms: Room for 6 kids to sleep at Chalet Manoe

The fixed central ladder hints at the clever design in this kids’ room. In fact, the drawers beneath the two bottom bunks pull out to reveal two more single beds, for a total capacity of six.

Recycled wooden dorm room

The reclaimed wood bed frames are in keeping with the interior design of this beautifully renovated old farmhouse.

A cosy family suite for three

Cool kids' bedrooms: A double bed and a single bed above at Sweet Nest lodge

With a shower and hand basin in the room, as well as a private independent WC accessed from within the suite, families of three will be happy to call this triple room home. Guests also have direct access to the terrace via sliding doors.

A fun space for four kids

Cool kids' bedrooms: 2 cabin beds and 2 single beds at Chalet Tolar

With two large cabin beds and two single beds, younger kids will have great fun making dens and older kids will have plenty of space to sprawl around in. There is plenty of extra floor space and storage in this room too.

A cosy family suite for four

Cool kids' bedrooms: A double bed and two bunks behind a curtain, with an ensuite with two showers and two hand basins at Chalet Meringue.

This family suite has a double bed which can also be set up as twin beds, plus sturdy and strong custom-made bunk beds behind a thick curtain.

All guests have fluffy throws and cushions, as well as individual reading lights. The ensuite for this lovely room has a double shower and double hand basins. It just looks so warm and inviting.
