The chalet's neutral palette of creams, white, beige and greys reflects the mountain setting and makes the most of the light, and some well-chosen accessories and lighting create a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. It's a great place to relax at the end of a busy day exploring the mountains.

The property ...

Lodge Arpitan sleeps 10 people in five comfortable en suite bedrooms, set over three floors. Built into the side of the mountain, you'll enter on the ground floor and there are two floors below that.

The sheltered porch and front door lead into a hall with large cupboards big enough for all your outdoor gear. There are two double bedrooms on this floor - one with an en suite bathroom and access to the balcony, and another with an en suite shower room.

One floor down is the beautiful living area with picture windows which onto the south-facing terrace - enjoy that wonderful view while you drink your coffee! Three comfy sofas with plenty of cushions and throws are arranged around the fireplace and television, for convivial nights with friends and family. The dining table, with enough room for 10 people to eat together, has impressive views over the terrace, and the open plan kitchen is fully-equipped with everything you need to cook for a crowd. There's a separate laundry room with a washing machine, dryer and sink, and a separate toilet.

The remaining three bedrooms are on the lower floor - two double bedrooms and a children's bedroom with twin beds. All have en suite shower rooms and are arranged along the front of the chalet to benefit from the view. The two double bedrooms open on to a large. south-facing terrace with stunning views. This newly-created terrace features a barrel-style hot tub built entirely from wood by local craftsmen. Designed to blend perfectly with the feel of the chalet, it's the ideal place to relax and unwind.

There is also a small home cinema on this floor, which is popular with guests of all ages..

There is a garage for one vehicle on the ground floor, and a ski store with a heated boot rack, so you'll be ready to hit the slopes every morning.

About the area ...

There's superb skiing at La Balme, which is just 2.5km from Lodge Arpitan, with more choice at La Clusaz, where there is weekly floodlit skiing.

The ski bus stops just 200m from the chalet, so you'll be on the slopes in no time. A single Aravis ski pass for La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand and La Croix Fry give you access to more than 200km of pistes to explore, as well as free access to the ski bus.

There's great terrain for cross-country skiers at the nearby Confins and Beauregard plateaux, and non-skiers will have no time to be bored, with an ice-skating rink and cinema in La Clusaz, as well as sledging, snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.

If you're looking for the ultimate in relaxation, let your cares float away in the year-round heated outdoor pool at La Clusaz, while the snow falls gently around you.

In the summer, the mountains become a fabulous playground for walkers, hikers and cyclists. The terrace outside the main living area is a great place to soak up the sun or enjoy a barbecue.

Walking or biking in the mountains is a pleasure - make it easy on yourself by taking the ski lift to the top and come down at your own pace. You can pick up a map of hiking and biking trails at the tourist office in La Clusaz.

Adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, mountain-biking or white-water rafting. Adventurous families will love via ferrata, with children as young as eight able to explore the mountains on iron walkways, secured to a harness.

The beautiful lakeside town of Annecy is just 30 minutes away by car, and is a great choice for a day out. The lake is said to be the cleanest in Europe and in the summer it's a lovely place for watersports, cycling, swimming or you could just hire a boat and explore the lakeside beaches. There are also several golf courses around the lake, and some exceptional restaurants.
