With hiking trails from the shores of Lake Annecy, you can explore this beautiful area on foot.
If you enjoy hiking on your summer holiday in the French Alps then Annecy is the perfect destination.
Some would say that Annecy in Haute Savoie is one of the most beautiful towns in France. Hikes in the Annecy area are equally as stunning! With hiking trails starting right from the shores of Lake Annecy and reaching up to the lofty heights of the surrounding peaks, there is plenty on offer to keep even the most avid hiker content.
You really don’t have to venture far from Annecy itself to reach some wonderful family friendly walks. Head over to Menthon-St-Bernard to explore the gentle paths at the Roc du Chêre. This beautiful nature reserve has a network of well-worn footpaths which are suitable for all ages of hiker. Make sure to reach Belvedere to take in the stunning view down to Lake Annecy.
Another beautiful hike suitable for kids is to the Cascade d’Angon (the Angon waterfall). This is a lovely path leading you right up to the impressive waterfall where you can watch people abseiling through the waterfall!
To the south of Lake Annecy, less than 45 minutes from Annecy itself, lies the Massif des Bauges. This beautiful region offers yet more stunning day walks and hikes many of which are suitable for family trekking.
For those looking for more of a challenge, try tackling Mont Veyrier, which dominates the lake’s eastern shores. At nearly 1,300m and its distinctive limestone cliff face near the summit, it stands out from the rest of the nearby peaks. There are a number of trails leading to this spectacular peak, and on to the neighbouring summit of Mont Baron. One of the more popular starting points is from the car park at Veyrier-du-Lac, a short distance from Annecy itself, or from the Col des Contrebandiers.
There are also many hiking trails in the nearby mountain resorts. Semnoz, on the western side of the lake, offers a different perspective over the turquoise waters. And a short distance further you will find the Aravis mountain range, including La Tourette, where you will discover hundreds of incredible hikes.
An OVO Network favourite is the Trou de la Mouche, accessible from Lac des Confins, near La Clusaz. This hike should take between three to four hours and takes you through a natural hole in the rock, offering a unique view of Mont Blanc.
