The best way to discover Annecy is on foot. There is free public parking near the Imperial Palace, which is a short walk beside the lake to town. Walk past the Hotel de Ville and head towards the pretty canals, where you will see the Palais de l'Isle, which has been a prison, a palace, a coin mint and is now a museum!
Further a-field, why not head to the Col de la Forclaz and watch the paragliders take off and land, or enjoy an early-morning hot air balloon ride as the sun rises. Head deeper into the mountains if you wish to explore the ski resorts, where Reblochon cheese is made and there's even more history and nature to explore.
