About Chalet Le Kitz ...
This fabulous contemporary chalet was built by the owners on land belonging to their family.
Situated just a few minutes from the main road between Thones and St-Jean-de Sixt, the chalet is well placed for exploring the ski stations of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, as well as the beautiful lakeside town of Annecy. Chalet Le Kitz is in a quiet location and makes the most of the fabulous views over Mont Lachat, Tournette and Le Lachat de Grand Bornand.
There’s a lovely sunny terrace behind the property, which is then open to fields and forest, making it a great place to walk or cycle from. Although the garden is open, there is little or no passing traffic, so children can explore their immediate surroundings safely.
Larger groups of up to 27 wishing to stay in this area might wish to consider booking Chalet Le Kitz with Chalet Bühel, which sleeps fifteen.
Please note that Chalet Kitz, a project built several years ago, does not display yet on the Google map below. Neighbouring Chalet Buhel is visible on the map since it's an old chalet that was renovated by the same owners as Kitz. You can see both properties in the exterior photos for both.
The property ...
Chalet Le Kitz sleeps 12, with accommodation over three levels.
Built to fit in comfortably with the older properties around it, it combines elements of a traditional chalet with contemporary features designed to make life easier for our guests.
As you enter the chalet on the ground floor, you’ll find a large hallway with access to the garage and ski store, a laundry and a family bedroom with a double bed, a bunk bed and en suite shower room.
Upstairs is the huge open plan living area, which has been cleverly divided into separate areas, so that everyone can find their own space. There’s a cosy seating area with a huge corner sofa piled with cushions and a separate area for watching the television - there’s an elegant wood burner here too. Colours are muted, with stone and wood combined in the walls and floor for a stylish mountain feel.
A wooden panel divides this area from the well-equipped kitchen with an island hob, two fridges and breakfast bar, and there’s a large dining table where everyone can eat together. From here, doors open on to the delightfulspacious terrace which has sun beds, dining furniture, a barbecue and a hot tub, where you can relax and enjoy a glass of wine under the stars. There’s another bedroom and bathroom on this floor.
The remaining three spacious bedrooms are on the top floor - a large double with en suite shower room and access to the balcony, and two twin rooms (the beds can be pushed together to form doubles), both of which have their own bathrooms.
About the area ...
Winter sports fans who want to escape from the bustle of modern ski resorts will find Chalet Le Kitz the perfect refuge.
Situated between La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, you can ski somewhere new every day. Your Aravis ski pass also covers the Manigod area, giving you 220km of pistes of varying levels to explore, as well as extensive off-piste action. Cross-country skiers will discover trails from St-Jean-de-Sixt, just a few minutes drive from the chalet.
Non-skiers are well catered for too, and can go ice skating or swimming in La Clusaz where the heated indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
At the end of the day, retire to Chalet Le Kitz for a meal before relaxing in the jacuzzi under the night sky. Who could ask for more?
Chalet Le Kitz is perfectly placed for a summer break, putting you a short drive from the Aravis mountain range.
At the nearby village of St-Jean-de-Sixt, just minutes from the chalet, you can try the Bun-J ride, a cross between ski jumping and bungee jumping! Other more traditional pastimes are available too - marked footpaths crisscross the mountains, or you can explore by mountain bike or on horseback.
There are indoor and outdoor swimming pool complexes in Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and Thônes, or if you’re looking for something a little more challenging, there are climbing schools, via ferrata routes, tree-top adventure parks, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding all nearby.
Back at Chalet Le Kitz, there is plenty of scope for children to explore, while you catch some sun on the stunning terrace, relax in the hot tub or fire up the barbecue for dinner.
The peace and quiet of Chalet Le Kitz may make you feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere, but in fact, you’re just an easy drive from so many stunning places.
Less than an hour from Geneva airport, the property is between the ski resorts of the Aravis and the medieval lakeside town of Annecy, which offers a unique mix of shops, restaurants, galleries, markets and museums. Lake Annecy, said to be the cleanest lake in Europe, is a great place for water sports, swimming, cycling or just relaxing on the beach.
Closer to home, there’s a good choice of shops and restaurants in St-Jean-de-Sixt and Thônes, as well as weekly markets in Thônes, La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, where you can pick up fresh local produce such as Reblochon cheese.

The OVO Network Review
Chalet Le Kitz is a five-bedroom, five-bathroom chalet for 12, spread over three floors and with 200m2 of floor space. It is the first of two properties belonging to the same owners, Sophie and Damien.
The 4-star chalet was meticulously planned, is finished to a high standard using natural local materials, and has all of the amenities of a good hotel, minus the other guests! We particularly like the spacious bedrooms, many with workspaces so that guests can chill out and read, or catch up with some work away from the group if they want some down time.
We also really like the layout of the well-equipped island kitchen next to the dining space.
From the cosy space around the woodburner, to the comfy lounge, the jacuzzi and outdoor dining area on the deck off the main communal space, the owners have added those all-important extra touches and details that mean satisfied holidaymakers return to Chalet Le Kitz again and again.
Guests most often comment on how well-maintained and spotlessly clean, comfortable, and well-designed the property is. They also really appreciate how helpful, reactive and knowledgeable about the local area the owners are.
As it is just 6km away from Grand Bornand or La Clusaz, off the main road between Thônes and St Jean de Sixt, Chalet Le Kitz is in a great location for exploring the best the amazing Aravis region has to offer. Local shops and markets make shopping convenient and a pleasure.
The location is calm and quiet without being isolated, and equally popular in summer and winter.
Options for dining out are plentiful.
The number and variety of things to see and do, and activities possible locally, even from the front door of the property, is only limited by your research skills, time available and budget! Which is where the owner’s local knowledge and contacts can take the strain out of planning what to see and do while visiting the area. And why they return...one holiday is never enough!
Larger groups of up to 27 guests can book Chalet Le Kitz along with neighbouring Chalet Buhel, also owned, designed, and renovated by Sophie and Damien. Chalet Buhel opened ready for summer 2018 guests.

What is the OVO Network Review?
We visit the property and write an unbiased review. What’s good? What’s not so good? We’ll help you find the right chalet for you.
From the owner

Sophie & Damien
Coming from the Aravis, we love this area and would love to share it with you.
Chalet le Kitz was built on the site of an old farm. Damien, who is a carpenter by trade, conceived and designed the property himself with your comfort in mind, but still respecting the architecture of the old buildings.
In the heart of the Aravis, the chalet is situated in the peaceful and authentic hamlet of Grands Champs. However, you’re just five minutes from the resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, just two minutes from a supermarket, bakery and sports shops, and 25 minutes from the lake at Annecy.
Surrounded by nature, you’ll be able to see from the window or the Jacuzzi, the deer grazing in the fields. The name of the chalet is a nod to my brother, skier Thomas Mermillod, who won a medal for France at Kitzbühel, the Austrian resort famous for its vertiginous descent.
We wish you a pleasant holiday in our chalet.
