Driving towards Chamonix, you'll see l'Aguille du Midi looming closer ahead, and eventually drive right by the cable car that takes you to the top. It's an excellent day out during a family holiday.
For a relaxing day trip, visit the spa town of Aix-les-Bains and immerse yourself in natural spring water and a day of massages and pampering in one of the many spa and wellness centres in town — some which offer a splendid view over Lake Bourget. This spa town is also the home of Musilac summer music festival, usually featuring some of the biggest stars in a relatively small arena, with free shuttles to save you walking from your car.
Closer to the Alps, take a look at Annecy, with it's incredibly clear and clean lake. It's perfect for all types of water sports, but for those who simply want to enjoy a stroll around the medieval old town, there's plenty of shopping, restaurants and, most importantly in summer, artisanal ice cream shops!
