Cross-Country skiing in Morzine

Escape to the real wilderness and discover the fun of Nordic skiing

Classic cross-country and skating are both catered for in Morzine

In Morzine-Avoriaz, skiing on the cross country routes is free of charge, but getting to some might not be. Many are accessible by car, but the higher Nordic ski tracks in Avoriaz are easiest to access using the Portes du Soleil downhill ski area lifts. To use the cable car or lifts, you can use a typical downhill ski pass, or a cheaper pedestrian pass.

If you'd like a Nordic ski lesson, there are ski schools in Morzine both private lessons and group lessons. Ditch the alpine skis and discover the fun of skating and classic cross-country skiing using our overview of the different ski areas, below.

The Manche valley area

Anyone looking to escape the crowds and sounds of a typical ski resort will love the Manche valley. Miles away from any ski lift, the area is accessible from the Nyon car park and by using the regular free shuttle bus. Some 20km of groomed tracks are available for cross-country skiers with the altitude varying from 1100m to 1400m.

The Pléney-Chavannes area

High enough to guarantee snow through winter, this sunny area at 1500m altitude provides a short 6km Nordic track. The Pléney-Chavannes track also has lovely panoramic views to enjoy while exercising, including views of the Mont Blanc mountain range, and you can visit the orientation table for more details of your surroundings. There are plenty of spots to eat and drink here too. The track is accessible by car at the Les Chavannes end in Les Gets or by using the Pléney gondola from Morzine.

Super-Morzine/Avoriaz area

With 45km of cross-country tracks from green to black and a wide variety of maintained tracks for beginners through to experts, the Super-Morzine/Avoriaz cross-country area provides a lot of choice in both tracks and scenery. Its location in Morzine at altitudes of up to 1800m means it’s best accessed using the lift system if you’re visiting from Morzine.

Montriond lake area

Hauntingly beautiful in winter, the area around Montriond lake is surrounded by cliffs that means this place stays cold and in the shade for months during winter. For Nordic activities, it provides a certain authenticity, with Arctic temperatures and natural beauty all around.
