Overview
The renovation of La Ferme de Marie, just five minutes drive from Morzine, really has been a labour of love for its owners, who bought it in 2007.
It took them two years to create the home of their dreams, which they modelled on the mountain refuges you can find in the Alps. The result is a stunning property, with lots of exposed wood and light airy living spaces.
Its idyllic location at the end of a road near the village of La Côte d'Arbroz, means it is totally tranquil, but within easy reach of Morzine, Les Gets and Mont Chery. A car is essential here, but the roads are always cleared of snow in winter.
The latest addition to the chalet is a covered terrace and Nordic bath - the perfect place to watch the snow fall! The chalet sleeps 14, but a separate apartment is available for larger groups.
About the property
The rustic mountain style of this chalet contrasts beautifully with the huge open plan living area which is at the centre of the property.
Exposed beams, high ceilings, big windows make for a light and airy space which makes the most of the fabulous mountain views. Cushions, throws, animal skins and a huge fireplace complete the look and make it the perfect place to get together with friends.
When you come in from an energetic day on the pistes, there’s a ski store when you can keep your outdoor gear, and a separate laundry. The well-equipped kitchen makes it easy to cook up a feast, and there’s a large dining table where you can all enjoy dinner together.
After dinner, gather on the sofas around the huge fireplace, and decide how you’re going to spend your next days in the Portes du Soleil. La Ferme de Marie sleeps 14 people in 8 bedrooms, all of which have flat screen televisions and en suite shower or bathrooms.
About the area
La Ferme de Marie is perfectly situated between the resorts of Morzine, Montriond and Les Gets, putting the whole of the Portes du Soleil at your disposal.
You can also ski in to Switzerland, but be warned, only the most accomplished skiers should tackle the Swiss Wall - a huge mogul field which is classified as an orange route - too hazardous for a black! But with 650km of pistes, there is plenty of scope for skiers and boarders of all ages and abilities.
This luxurious chalet is the perfect base to discover the area. It’s also worth the five-minute drive to Mont Chery, a standalone mountain with great off piste, where you’ll get some fabulous views of Mont Blanc and, if you’re early, plenty of fresh powder.
If you’re not a skier, Morzine also offers indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks, which are often host to ice hockey matches, and the local cinema shows films in English. The more adventurous might like to try snowmobiling or ice-climbing on some of the area’s frozen waterfalls, or discover the area in a more sedate manner on a sleigh ride.
Other ways to have fun include snowshoeing and sledging, while the Indiana adventure park in Morzine offers a variety of activities for all ages.
Summer in the Alps is very special, with snowy slopes replaced by lush green pastures, which become a haven for walkers, mountain bikers and thrill-seekers.
The lifts will transport you and your bike up the mountains, so you can come back down at your leisure. Take a picnic, and make a day of it! Morzine has earned Famille Plus status for its excellent childcare and entertainment — the perfect choice for young families.
Just a few minutes drive from La Ferme de Marie is the pretty village of Montriond, where you’ll find gentle lakeside walks, pony rides and the impressive Brochaux waterfalls.
There are superb water parks in Morzine and Avoriaz, as well as two summer sledging runs, while the Indiana adventure park has a range of assault courses to suit all ages. Golfers will find excellent courses in Les Gets and Avoriaz.
Other activities include climbing, rafting, via ferrata, canyoning, mini-golf, quad bikes, fishing, kayaking hiking. You can also take advantage of the Portes du Soleil Multi Pass, offering unrestricted access to the full range of family activities, at an exclusive rate of 2€.
The traditional towns of Morzine, Montriond and the neighbouring resort of Avoriaz offer plenty of variety for a holiday, whatever the time of year, but if you venture a little further, there’s a lot more to discover.
The Portes du Soleil resorts cross the border into Switzerland, giving you two countries and two cultures to explore. It’s just over half an hour’s drive to Lake Geneva, where you can visit lakeside resorts the pretty spa town of Evian-les-Bains, or the beautiful medieval village of Yvoire. You can also cruise to other lakeside towns such as Lausanne and Montreux.
In Chamonix, just an hour’s drive away, you can take a ride on the second-largest cable car in the world, and take in the spectacular views from Mont Blanc. Geneva airport is just an hour away from La Ferme de Marie, so if you don’t see everything this time, you’ll just have to come back again next year!

Why Montriond?
The pretty village of Montriond is a great holiday destination for guests who want a great choice of mountain sports and all the bars, shops and restaurants of a large resort, but who at the end of the day want to return to a quiet base in the heart of nature.
If you’re visiting in the winter, you’ll be close to the lifts in Morzine, but you’ll also have great access to the Ardent bubble, which will whisk you up to the Portes du Soleil resorts.
If you’re visiting in the summer, you’ll appreciate the walks around Lake Montriond, swimming and kayaking.

“A great chalet”
Great location, well equipped, and a fantastic big boot room.

“A marvellous holiday!”
The view from the living room is breathtaking. The chalet is really beautiful and very comfortable. It is closer to the centre of Morzine than we had expected. Nicolas and Stephanie from My Home in the Alps took care of every little detail - a big thank you. One small suggestion - a ski room with a boot warmer!
