The OVO Network Review

Chalet Morclan is a 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom chalet for 8 (max 6 adults) spread over 2 floors and 180m2 of floor space.

Guests at Chalet Morclan vary from couples who want a base from which to explore this beautiful corner of the Alps, to families wanting to spend quality time together, to sports fans itching to experience or observe the vast array of local sporting possibilities and events, all year round. A stay at the chalet enables guests to combine enjoying peace and quiet, stunning views, and opportunities to observe wildlife up close and personnal, with proximity to a great ski resort set in the heart of the Aravis mountains, just a short drive away, and the fabulous Lake Annecy and Annecy itself a little further.

It's no wonder guests frequently return to Chalet Morclan!

Chalet Morclan sits on the crest of a hill and therefore has amazing, virtually 360 degree panaormic views. Summer and winter enjoy the views of the beautiful Manigod valley from the large deck area which wraps around two sides of the chalet.

Follow the sunshine, with a different view for each meal! There is a flat garden above the chalet with trampoline and table tennis table. The hot tub sits at one end of the deck, so that guests can appreciate the scenery while relaxing in the bubbles.

Furnishings, soft furnishings and deco are changed regularly, equipment, games, books etc are also checked and updated often to ensure guests enjoy a fresh and clean holiday experience. There is an open fire in the lounge, and the largest bedroom upstairs also has a TV and seating, meaning guests can spread out if they so wish.

As Chalet Morclan is a "Cool 4 Kids" property, families with young children don't need to travel with extra kit! Pets are welcome too. A welcome gouter / apero is provided on arrival.

All this underinned and overseen by a fabulous, attentive yet discrete manager, and a hard working chalet team.

NB Every effort is made to keep the tarmacked drive clear during the winter, there is a parking space at the bottom if guests prefer to park and walk up.

Enjoy!

“...there was the fabulous view...that still makes me catch my breath today, more than 20 years later.”

We almost missed Manigod completely! Having decided to take a last-minute summer holiday with friends, we narrowed our choice to two possible locations: a villa in Veyrier-Du-Lac, or an old farm in Manigod.

We chose Manigod and several weeks later found ourselves taking the left turn just a couple of kilometres beyond Thones. The road began to climb until there was a break in the trees and suddenly there it was, that brief view of Etale before the road twisted.

Another tantalising glimpse followed a little further on until eventually we rounded another bend and there was the fabulous view of the village framed by the mountain background that still makes me catch my breath today, more than 20 years later.

The Manigod valley is spectacular, no matter what the season.

We signed for the chalet that summer, and made a couple of short visits during the autumn to find the valley totally transformed from lush green to autumnal hues. The cows and goats were down from the high pastures dotted around the valley at various farms.

When we returned at Christmas, the valley had become a winter sports paradise, blanketed in thick snow. The Aravis mountains are not the highest peaks in the Alps by any means, but there is plenty of interesting, picturesque and varied skiing to suit all levels.

At Easter we collected the keys for the chalet in bright sunshine. A couple of days later we skied at Balme in the morning before watching Le Défi Foly (an end of season competition which involves sliding down the mountain and across an icy lake) at Confins in the afternoon.

Our visits that first year set the tone for what was to follow: the valley is different with each season and life here has a calm timeless quality. The local communities respect and promote the traditions that have given the valleys their individual characters and flavours.

The pastures cows graze on transform into busy ski fields each winter. Tradition meets modern life, high-energy activity meets peace and quiet.

Our children have played on the playground at the village school in temperatures ranging from minus 20 to 40 degrees!

Chalet Morclan is on a crest, which means we enjoy almost panoramic views framed by Etale, Val Sulens, Tournette and the road up towards the Col de la Croix Fry. You could not wish to be in a more spectacular mountain setting, and yet we are just 30 minutes away from the lake with the medieval walled city of Annecy just beyond. Geneva airport is an hour away.

The chalet is a comfortable base in a beautiful setting - a home ideal for sharing with friends and family. Comfortable beds, plenty of bathrooms and hot water, a spacious terrace, and glorious views from each window.

We hope you enjoy spending time in this stunning space - take time to recharge your batteries, appreciate your surroundings, slow your pace, breathe and enjoy, before setting off on whichever type of mountain or lake adventure calls to you.

“We had a very nice stay in a very nice chalet”

We had a very nice stay in a very nice chalet. The place is a bit isolated, but that's what we wanted. The managers were very nice and helpful.

“A home away from home!”

We have had the most wonderful two week stay at Chalet Morclan, truly a home away from home!

Picture postcard views from every window, soaking in the jacuzzi in the snow, or gazing up at the stars or soaking up the sun on the deck. Every detail has been thought of. We don't want to leave and will most definitely be back.

Thank you to our amazing hosts, Karen and Tim, and to Tom and Grace for ensuring everything was perfect when we arrived.
