About Chalet Les Houlottes ...
Just a few minutes away from the charming village of Manigod, Chalet Les Houlottes is the perfect base for two families or a group of friends looking to enjoy all the La Clusaz region has to offer.
Combining comfort, practicality and style, Les Houlottes' south-facing position makes the most of panoramic views of La Tournette, Val Sulens and L'Aiguille, and the newly-built terrace is the perfect place to admire them.
The chalet is in a quiet position, but it's just a 15-minute walk in to Manigod village, where you can pick up fresh bread and regional delicatessen, enjoy a Savoyard meal in Val Sulens restaurant, which will also do takeaway food.
The property ...
Set over three floors, the stylish accommodation at Les Houlottes offers plenty of space for nine people. Two comfortable living areas mean there’s room for the adults to enjoy a quiet evening around the fire while teenagers let off steam in the huge games room, playing table tennis, Xbox games or watching TV.
There are two double bedrooms, one triple and a twin, where the beds can be joined together, and two bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms open on to the sunny balcony - the perfect place for your morning tea.
The compact kitchen has everything you need to cater for a large group, and the dining room has double doors out on to the terrace, so you can eat outside on a clear night and watch for shooting stars.
About the area ...
With the ski bus stopping in the centre of Manigod, you’ve got the whole of the Aravis ski area at your disposal - more than 200km of slopes.
If you choose to drive, there’s plenty of parking at the ski stations. Floodlights on some of the pistes mean you can ski until 1am in La Clusaz, on certain dates throughout the year, and the weekly torchlit descent is an experience you’ll never forget.
Cross-country skiers will find plenty of trails to choose from, and non-skiers are not forgotten, with a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, ice rink and cinema, as well as sledging, snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and horse-drawn sleigh rides.
For the ultimate in winter fun, try paragliding on skis or ski joering – skiing while towed by a horse!
In the summer, you'll be hard pressed to tear yourself away from the stunning views and the sunny terrace at Les Houlottes, but if you don’t, you’ll miss out on all the fun and adventure of summer in the La Clusaz region.
There’s no shortage of walks, from mountain trails to hiking on the Gliéres plateau, the scene of the Resistance’s campaign in World War II.
Adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, mountain-biking or white-water rafting - just some of the activities on offer within a few miles of Manigod.
Via ferrata is a great family day out, with children as young as eight able to explore the mountains on iron walkways, safely secured to a harness.
A day out in Annecy is a must - you can explore the streets and canals of the town or take a cruise across the lake, stopping off at waterside restaurants or secluded beaches.

From the owner
The location is exceptional, with panoramic views to the Etale, Aiguille de Manigod, Mont Sulens and Tournette mountains.
“I worked for a few years for the UN in Geneva and remembered skiing over the crest into Manigod and thinking what a glorious valley it was. When we had a chance to buy a chalet here, and one in such a perfect spot, we jumped at the chance.
Les Houlottes has brought our family lots of adventures and much happiness. The location is exceptional, with panoramic views to the Etale, Aiguille de Manigod, Mont Sulens and Tournette mountains.
We’ve climbed them all over the years and grown to love the changing views through each day and across the seasons. In winter, the Croix Fry offers lovely family skiing and is known amongst Parisians as the perfect place to bring children to ski.
Our youngsters have all learnt there and were very rapidly able to head off on mini-adventures, meeting back at Chez Fonfon for sunny lunches on the terrace overlooking the nursery slope. The easy links into the big La Clusaz ski domaine mean that even the most adventurous skiiers can find exciting routes.
The drive up to the ski slopes takes about 10 minutes, but you could also catch the skibus from the village.
Summer in Manigod is very green, with wildflower meadows and the sound of cowbells in the distance. Evenings often find us recovering from mountain-biking or hiking, sitting out on the terrace with aperitifs, watching the sunset turn the Etale a soft purple.
As the stars emerge, dinner begins and our youngest rings the giant cow bell to call everyone from different parts of the chalet.
We enjoy days out in the beautiful villages of Talloires and Veyrier, about 25 minutes away on the banks of lake Annecy. We swim, sail and dive from pedaloes into the clear water of the lake.
We sometimes stay down at the lake for relaxed dinners in one of the lakeside restaurants.
The village is a 15-minute walk from the chalet, but on summer mornings we usually send someone on a bike to pick up fresh bread and croissants from the excellent boulangerie.
Les Houlottes means the baby owls in the local patois of the couple who built the chalet and who treasured it for 20 years. We bought it 9 years ago and are only the second owners.
It’s very much a traditional chalet, with wooden walls and a log fire which combine to give it a delicious chalet smell! At the same time, we want it to be comfortable and up-to-date, so things like decent wi-fi, lots of hot water and an excellent kitchen matter a lot to us.
The interiors are inspired by a love of Scandinavian design and we hope you will find them bright and fresh. We have three children aged between 12 and 4 and a typical holiday week for us rarely involves less than six children haring around the chalet.
We have arranged the interior to allow children space to play and hang out - and adults space to relax.
It’s a large chalet, but rather than cramming in lots of bedrooms, we have kept four large and airy bedrooms and retained lots of space for living and playing.
Downstairs there is a large games room with a sofa, table tennis table, dart board, board games, home cinema (with UK and French cable television and stacks of DVDs) and an X-Box.
Upstairs, there’s another sitting room with sofa and chairs around an open fire and another television, just in case the spectacular views don’t absorb you completely.
Mountain sports are an important part of our life; we ski, climb, hike and cycle and the chalet is full of historic climbing photos and mountaineering books. From the front door you can head off on wonderful walks, snaking through the woods (with wild strawberries in the summer) and working your way to the head of the valley past alpages towards dramatic rock faces and clear mountain streams.
We’ve tried to think through all the practicalities of skiing and hiking holidays, so when you enter the chalet you’ll walk straight into a paneled boot room with coat hooks all round the walls, ski racks and a long wooden bench. The underfloor heating will dry out mitts and hats long before the morning and there’s a huge laundry nearby for dealing with grimy kit.
We’re very keen cooks, and friends who stay at the chalet include food writers and restauranteurs, hence the induction hob, and good quality kitchen equipment. The long wooden dining table has hosted many epic dinners; we hope you will enjoy eating there with your friends and family. Lucy and Tom Carrell
We hope that you will love holidays at Les Houlottes as much as we do and take away your own happy memories of fun in the mountains.

“The property is exactly as described”
The property is exactly as described. A few minutes drive outside of the small-town centre. Pitch black in the evenings and only the sounds of nature. Great sunsets. My 11 year old loved the games room. We were happy to escape the heat of the coast to the idyllic alpine countryside...

“Completely in line with the website!!”
The chalet Les Houlottes is very well located on the heights of the village of Manigod whose Croix Fry ski resort is 15 minutes away by car. Perfect for day trips. The car is necessary because the chalet is far from the village. Very nice layout of the chalet with its downstairs playroom, ski locker and lounge around the fireplace. We had a very nice stay despite the closure of the ski lifts.Steve the manager was present to welcome us and give us explanations about the chalet; the deposit of the keys for the time of departure simplifies everything.
— Carole D. Feb 2021
“Functional. Very spacious. Gorgeous view”
Completely in line with the presentation given on the website, and our expectations. The location is very good with a panoramic view of the mountains and a southern exposure (sunrise and sunset as a bonus). The facilities are very good and of good quality. The chalet is very spacious and comfortable. The playroom is ideal when you have teenagers. We had a very pleasant stay with the snow arrived for Christmas, evenings by the fire and great moments of family sharing. Thank you to Steve for his welcome, his availability and his explanations.

“A well-equipped chalet in a great location”
A really beautiful chalet with a practical layout. The big bench in the lobby is a great idea - you can take off your shoes comfortably, there are plenty of hooks for coats. Thanks to the underfloor heating, your shoes will be dry and warm the next day. The bathrooms are modern and well heated. The living room could do with some more lighting and the bedroom on the first floor could do with more storage. Apart from that, we had a lovely holiday.
— Christine S. Feb 2019
“A holiday worth repeating”
This was our second holiday at Chalet Les Houlottes. It's well located in a quiet area, and we would love to come back.
— Daniel D. Jan 2019
“Just as described on the internet!”
The chalet is just as it was described on your very lovely website. It's very easy to live in and well equipped. There are several shops in nearby Manigod (a bakery, a grocers and a cafe/restaurant). It's easy to get to the ski stations of Manigod and La Clusaz. Be warned that parking fills up quickly in high season. There are several cross-country ski areas (Les Confins, for example) and several walks around the chalet.
— Damien T. Dec 2018
“A peaceful holiday in a very pretty chalet”
Very pretty accommodation in an enchanting setting. Everything was just as it was described on the website. The property was well equipped, comfortable, nicely decorated and typical of local buildings. It was a lot of fun to rub shoulders with the locals. There are plenty of options in the area for walking (at all levels). We really liked the three levels of the chalet, with a large entrance lobby. The kitchen and living area are lovely and peaceful. It's a very quiet and relaxing place, with herds of beautiful cows passing beneath our windows.
— Laurent D. Oct 2018
“Heaven on Earth!”
A very bright chalet with an incredible view over Manigod valley. Fireplace, bath tub, barbecue and many board games available to keep you busy during your holiday. So many hikes to enjoy around the area. We'll be back!
— Tamara T. Oct 2018

“Very good”
Nice accommodation, functional with a nice feel about it.
— Elio C. Feb 2018
“A brilliant family chalet!”
The chalet is exactly as described. Everything is very good, apart from the wooden floor upstairs, which creaked (but for a wooden chalet, what can you expect). Everything is well organised and the welcome was perfect.
— Catherine F. Feb 2018

Houlottes is a nice chalet, with cozy space, traditional yet modern. We especially liked the downstairs TV/game room. We loved the area. We've stayed in the Flumet area before and we really prefered Manigod and its surroundings,in particular the Croix-Fry station.
