Chalet Choquette ...
Set between the village of Les Houches, near Chamonix, and the surrounding forest, this light and airy chalet is the perfect choice for a family looking for a base near great skiing in the Chamonix valley without the hustle and bustle that comes with a big resort. At the end of an active day in the mountains, it's a real treat to return to your chalet and relax in the hot tub on the terrace!
Chalet Choquette is in the Vaudagne area of Les Houches, 5km from the village, the Prarion ski lift and the ESF ski school. It's another 6km to Chamonix itself, and there's a free year-round bus service which runs the length of the valley, all the way from Les Houches to Le Tour.
In summer, you can enjoy walks in the foothills of Mont Blanc, or take a ride on the Mont Blanc Tramway. There are plenty of cycle trails too, including a mountain bike trail from the top of Le Prarion gondola (1850m) to Belleface (1180m).
There are several small supermarkets in Les Houches, as well as bars and some great restaurants. You'll need a car when you stay at Chalet Choquette - there's one parking space outside the chalet and two more at the bottom of the drive (50m walking distance) - an easier option in the winter.
About the property ...
There's plenty of room for seven people to stay at Chalet Choquette, which has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The bedrooms, all of which open on to a balcony, are all on the first floor. There's a master suite with a large double bed and a single bed, as well as an en suite shower room with a WC. There's another double room and a twin room, which can be made up with a kingsize bed if you prefer. These bedrooms share a bathroom with a bath and WC.
The spacious open-plan living area has a beautiful kitchen at one end with a range cooker and a small dining table where you can grab a snack before heading out. There's also a larger dining table, where everyone can sit down together for a delicious evening meal. There's also a WC on this floor.
The sitting area is divided into two areas - a large sofa in front of the television and more sofas and chairs around the woodburning stove, where you can get together and plan your next day in the mountains. Doors open from here on to the sunny hot tub terrace - if you'd rather eat outside, there's another dining table out here and a barbecue.
Children of all ages will love the basement, which has been converted into a games area with a television. There's also a utility room with a washer and dryer as well as a ski room with a heated boot rack.
About the area ...
A mountain resort in its own right, Les Houches is also one of five ski stations in the Chamonix valley - Grands Montets, Les Houches, Le Tour/Balme, La Flegere and Le Brevent.
A great area for beginners and intermediates, Les Houches boasts plenty of tree-line skiing. There are two beginner slopes at the top of the Prairion and the Bellevue cable cars, as well as some sheltered runs which are a great option in bad weather. There is more choice in the rest of the Chamonix valley - it's worth looking into ski passes to find one that covers the areas you want to visit.
Chamonix is said to be one of the world's best freeride destinations, and there's great glacier skiing too. It's worth hiring a guide to make the most of the 20km Vallée Blanche, which will take you across glacier, around crevasses and through some breathtaking scenery.
Although you'll need a car when you stay at Chalet Choquette, it's very easy to get around the Chamonix valley by public transport. There's a free bus system which runs all year round, as well as Mont Blanc Express train line, a scenic mountain line which stops Vaudagne just 1km from the chalet.
But there's plenty to do in Les Houches outside the ski season too. You can walk in the foothills of Mont Blanc or enjoy some of the wonderful cycle trails to be found in the mountains. It's a great area for climbing - beginners might like to find their feet at the Mont Blanc Climbing Centre in Les Houches before heading to the mountains. Other activities include paragliding, canyoning, via ferrata, golf or glacier hiking.

The OVO Network Review
Chalet Choquette is a three-storey chalet for seven, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
If you're looking for a family holiday in the mountains, close to nature, great skiing and walking but still close enough to enjoy the resorts of the Chamonix Valley, Chalet Choquette could tick all your boxes.
There are three bedrooms on the top floor: a master bedroom with a large double and a single bed as well as an en suite shower room, and two more double rooms, one of which can be arranged with twin beds or a kingsize bed. All of the bedrooms open on to a balcony, where you can enjoy the fresh mountain air and the incredible views.
The spacious open plan living room has a seating area in front of a woodburning stove, another in front of a Smart TV, and a dining table with room for everyone to eat together. Before dinner, you could enjoy an apero on the sunny terrace or perhaps take in the views from the hot tub.
The kitchen has everything you need to cater for a large group, including a range cooker and a dishwasher. The washing machine and dryer are in the utility room in the basement, where you'll also find the ski room with a heated boot rack and a great games room with a TV - the perfect place for children of all ages to do their own thing.
There's a parking space just below the chalet, but access up the steep drive can be difficult in winter, so the owner has provided two more spaces at the bottom of the drive. You'll need your car to get around, but with a train station just 1km away and a bus service running all year round along the valley, there are other options.
Chalet Choquette is a great location for an adventurous family that likes to get out and enjoy the mountains, surrounded by nature and wonderful scenery. And the hot tub on the terrace is the perfect place to end the day, perhaps with a barbecue, too!

“Very good”
Very good - driveway in front of the chalet is a little steep
“A perfect place”
A quiet, peaceful spot to relax or work out in the mountains. A perfect place.
“Absolutely gorgeous”
This place was absolutely gorgeous- there was nothing I would change. Views were gorgeous, loved the hot tub, and communication was great. They even had a little games room which was brand new and not advertised on the site, so a nice surprise. Would definitely recommend.
