About Ferme de Grand Essert - Bourne
If you want the flexibility of self-catering accommodation with the option to have someone else do the cooking now and again, in the heart of the mountains, this is a great choice
Bourne apartment (for 8, max 7 adults) is part of an old farmhouse, Ferme le Grand Essert, in the pretty village of Entremont. Meet the owners over welcome drinks in the conservatory, and if you don’t fancy cooking, Carole, a keen cook, is happy to serve up delicious dinners in the cellar dining room.
In this cosy property, with its large, tree-fenced garden, you’ll feel like you’re miles from anywhere, but in fact it’s just a short walk into the village of Entremont, where you’ll find a bakery and restaurant. The village is situated between the ski stations of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, so you’re close to all the mountain action, but with a sauna, jacuzzi and summer swimming pool on your doorstep, you might find it difficult to tear yourself away!
Larger parties (up to 15) can rent Bourne with the next door Aravis apartment, which sleeps 7. If both apartments are rented by a same group, you will benefit from a 10% discount on the second rental.
The property ...
Bourne apartment offers traditional Savoyard style with a luxurious finish.
Sleeping up to 8 (7 adults max) in four en suite bedrooms (all with televisions), the accommodation is set over two floors, so might not be ideal for those with young children. The living room, with its dining area and kitchen is set under the eaves on the top floor, offering stunning mountain views from the balcony.
As befits an ancient farmhouse, the decor is very natural, with plenty of wood and quality soft furnishings. The shared sauna is on the first floor, and the jacuzzi is outside, on the ground floor. In the winter, the wood burner in the conservatory keeps this space cosy every evening - it’s a great place to relax over a drink. In the summer, the heated pool is available for shared use in the large sunny garden - sunbeds, barbecue, chairs and tables are provided.
The pool is not fenced in, but has an electrically powered safety cover for when it sn't being used.
About the area ...
Situated between the two ski stations of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, you can discover somewhere new to ski every day. The areas are linked by a single ski pass, covering more than 220km of pistes and 95 lifts.
Cross-country skiers have a choice of trails on the Glieres plateau, scene of the Resistance campaign in World War II.
There is plenty to do for non-skiers too - try horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice-skating, paragliding or hot air ballooning or just relax in the heated indoor/outdoor pools at La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, as the snow-covered mountains tower above you.
Then it’s back to your apartment for a delicious dinner and a drink around the fire. Life doesn’t get much better ...
In the summer, you might not want to leave the large sunny garden, swimming pool and stunning mountain views, but with a fabulous mountain playground on all sides, it would be a shame not to explore it.
There are plenty of hiking and mountain bike trails, and if you prefer, the ski lifts will whisk you up to higher ground so that you don’t have to put in the hard work! Pack a picnic of some local bread and cheese, or eat al fresco at the mountain restaurants, which offer good food and spectacular views.
The medieval lakeside town of Annecy is just 30 minutes away by car and is a must for a day out, whatever the season, with its unique mix of restaurants, shops and museums. In the summer it’s a great place for golf and water sports, or hire a boat and explore some of the quiet lakeside beaches.
Thrill seekers can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, via ferrata or white-water rafting, and at the end of the day you can reflect on the days fun over a cold beer or an ice cream in the sunny garden at Ferme le Grand Essert.
If you like the sound of a mountain holiday at La Ferme du Grand Essert, check your holiday dates against our calendar - we can hold them for 24 hours if you need time to make plans. However, don't wait too long, a property like this is very popular with guests of OVO Network.

From the Owner
Welcome to our private paradise in the heart of the mountains!
We live here in our very private paradise all year round, enjoying all the seasons.
Nestled in the heart of the Aravis mountains, we’re just 40 minutes from Geneva, and a few minutes away from the telecabines of Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz. Fly in in the morning and you can be skiing by 11am!
Our listed Savoyard farmhouse is one of the most important old buildings in the local area. The stone in the kitchen dates from the 15th century, and the village of Entremont has a fascinating history dating back to 1154.
Before we moved to Entremont, I used to run a B&B in Burgundy (“L’Ange Souriant” in the village of Flavigny sur Ozerain). When we were looking for our home in the Alps, I wanted something pretty, upmarket, chic and close to the airport. The villages of Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz ticked all the boxes, and when we discovered our beautiful farmhouse in 2011, we bought it straight away.
We will provide you with something very special and personal. We try to keep standards high, offering a quality service. We are very keen on French cooking and good wine, and hope to demonstrate this at our “table d'hôte”.
Together with my son Martin and husband Bruno, I would love to welcome you at the farmhouse so that you can discover this beautiful location and accommodation for yourselves. Carole Drogoul
“Stunning views and brilliant facilities”
First of all, the location. You will be severely challenged to find anywhere with views as nice as this. When you are reclining by the (lovely large) pool in the sunshine you really do pinch yourself for having the good fortune to find such a gorgeous place. The villa accommodates two groups but they are separate and although the BBQ, pool and jacuzzi are shared the space around the pool is so large you don't even have to talk to them if you don't want to - although we met a lovely family from Hamburg and shared some experiences and highlights in the evenings over some wine. For a large group this is a fantastic option. The villa itself is rustic and charming with lots of room and the extras (spa, sauna, pool, boot room for skiiing season, etc) are very good. We were there in the summer and the weather was fabulous. Location is perfect and even if you never left the property in the week you would have a great time. However, within easy reach are Geneva, Annecy, Mont Blanc, Evian, Yvoire and a host of other places to explore. We had a really great week.

“We’d highly recommend this place to anyone!”
We’ve just returned home following a great weeks holiday. The chalet is stunning and beautifully decorated with everything we needed. It is situated close to the river in a stunning setting. It was lovely to take the short stroll into the village to collect fresh croissants for breakfast. Also within a short drive there are many great things to see and enjoy especially if you love being outdoors. We had brilliant trips to lake Annecy and Chamonix/Mont Blanc. Carole cooked two super meals for us and was so very helpful in making our holiday a truly memorable one. The pool and hot tub alongside the communal lounge and dining room were a real added bonus. We’d highly recommend this place to anyone! Thank you for everything.

“A very picturesque house with a superb swimming pool.”
The owners are very nice and very helpful.
The owners are very nice and very helpful.
Thank you for these great holidays in the French Alps. Carole and Bruno were the best owners you could want. They helped us to have the best stay. Bruno took us on a ride and Carole shared with me his love of horses. Not to mention ... Moka, the funniest dog I've ever met. It was a great stay in a beautiful landscape. Thank you !!!
Andrea N. - 14/07/2018
My family, which included three small children, had a wonderful time at the chalet. Carole met us at the time of check in and was on site for our entire stay to answer any question. The pool and hot tub were immaculately clean and everything you could want was provided: games for children and adults, toys and movies.

“Everything that we expected”
This is a very welcoming house, very well equipped, and exactly as presented on the site. Even its unusual setting with many stairs adds to the charm of this lovely rental. Thank you for this great stay in your mountains. We got everything we expected.

“An excellent holiday”
We will remember the kindness of the owners, who were always available when we needed them.
As for activities, we recomment the high ropes at Le Grand Bornand, paragliding in Annecy, and the visit to Lorette's farm, which specialises in the production of Reblochon.

“A very good stay”
We spent a very good stay at Ferme du Grand Essert thanks to the owners's hospitality.
The Chalet is an ideal spot to explore this lovely area and to enjoy the pistes of la Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand.

“A great week-end ”
We spent a great week-end.
A wonderful chalet with very nice owners who pampered us.
And they do their best to make sure we had a fabulous stay.
We felt so good, that we remain at the chalet throughout the week-end without going outside.
Thanks to the owners. We'll come back.

“A perfect summer holiday!”
We really thank the owner for such a wonderful stay! We loved every moment, the chalet, the location and the local area! Everyday we were swimming int he pool, hiking the mountains and enjoying a rose in the garden - a perfect summer holiday!
We really appreciated the location, the environment, and our host.
We loved the food, relaxing and doing many activities.

“A great stay”
We had a lovely holiday. Carole is a very kind host and a fine cordon bleu chef. The accommodation is a little small in places, especially under the eaves if you are tall, but it is comfortable and the bedrooms are spacious. There are lovely walks in the area - we will probably return in the summer for the hiking.

“We had everything we needed.”
It was our first stay in your beautiful lodgings and we were very satisfied with everything we found there. The house was charming and, at the same time, very well equipped. We had everything we needed. Carole, our "landlady" was very friendly and forthcoming and assisted us in every possible way. Her cooking skills were excellent and the meals very delicious. She provided us with any additional information we might require and she even gave us some very useful advice for our daily activities, whether we planned hiking trips in the mountains near the resort or attempted to "conquer" Europe's highest peak, the Mont Blanc at Chamonix. In all, our one week stay at Ferme du Grand Essert - Aravis / Bourne was a complete success! This, certainly, has not been our last trip to the beautiful resort in the beautiful French Alps!

“A really great location!”
We spent a great week at the end of December 2015. The chalet was comfortable, we particularly loved the stove which kept us warm in the evenings, the sauna and the outside jacuzzi - really lovely after a day skiing or walking. Carole really looked after us, had put up a beautiful Christmas tree in the living room and even invited us to stay until Sunday as the property was free the following week! Thank you Carole! It meant we were able to enjoy the fresh snow which fell at the end of the week. It was a really great place - we'd love to come back!
Cécile L. - 26/12/2015
“It was better than expected!”
We rented both apartments in this chalet, and it was the best we have ever stayed in. The comfort, the pool, the facilities — it was all perfect. It's also brilliant for the children and the setting was beautiful.
Maria K. - 27/06/2015
“ Hope to come and visit you again one day!”
Thank you for an excellent stay in your beautiful chalet, your nice dinners and very friendly service. We loved the big garden, the nice pool, the cosy rooms, the privacy, the location, the nice little villages, the owners (!) and the views. Especially the bedrooms were very comfortable and nicely decorated. We love the mountains and all the activities that are around, walking, climbing, cycling, rafting etc. We and also our children look back with great memories!

“An idyllic setting”
Family-friendly holiday, friendly owners, clean and well-decorated chalet. We loved the nearby farm and the surrounding mountains.
Carole C. - 16/06/2014
“We had a great stay here”
The owners were very welcoming and the chalet was ideal for us, not least our kids (ages 11, 11 and 9) who had a great time in and around the chalet. We would not hesitate to come back if / when we are next visiting the area.
Keith L. - 31/05/2014
“Warm welcome, lovely chalet”
Chalet is beautiful, full of rustic charm and home comforts, plus the sauna and jacuzzi, facing the snowy mountains. Perfect. As a party of four adults and four children, we part self catered, and Carole cooked for us the other nights. Despite one of our party being allergic to onions (challenging for any French cuisine), Carole served delicious French dishes. Carole is everything you would want in a host. This was our first time driving to the French Alps to ski. Although 10 mins drive to the ski lifts, the chalet is low enough to have not needed snow chains (in February). We were able to park in the town for free each day, then get the free ski bus to the lifts. Lots of slopes for beginners and intermediates. Not as many English visitors as you find in the better known French ski resorts, so ideal for practising your French. As our third ski holiday with the children, we really enjoyed this one and give top marks for the chalet, Carole and the resort.

“Everyone loved it!”
I celebrated my 70th birthday in 2011 with my family at Ferme du Grand Essert. I'm not too much of a computer addict and didn't leave an online comment at the time, but our holiday was fantastic! I didn't have anything to do but enjoy all the good things available there (my children and grand children loved the place too). Last year I took them to Lanzarotte for New Year, but in 2013, when I asked them: where do you want to go? They all replied in one voice: La Ferme du Grand Essert!... So I guess I wil see you very soon...
Rossier F. - 13/10/2013
“A delightful holiday”
Thank you very much for a delightful holiday and your hospitality, we were sad to leave – it certainly is a very stunning area of France that you have chosen, there is so much more we would like to see and do in the area, so we will definitely be back when the children are a little older. The boys are missing the swimming pool and jacuzzi, we are missing that fresh mountain air.
Karen R. - 17/08/2013
“Excellent stay and warm welcome”
This lovely place is worth every penny! We loved the splendid swimming pool and the hot tub.
Wouter G. - 04/07/2013
“All in all a great stay”
The apartments are in a quiet location, with extensive grounds. The BBQ and decking area that surrounds the pool is brand new, as was the hot tub - apparently we were the first to use it.
The bedrooms were all large, with enough room for a cot in each, and the cot and high chair provided were of a good standard.
Carole was a brilliant host: very friendly and welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble. She works very hard to keep the property in great condition.
We used the apartment on a self catering basis, but she cooked for us one evening, which was excellent, and was accompanied by salad grown in the garden outside. Salad that guests can pick themselves as and when they need it.
The location is perfect for the ski resorts nearby, La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, and for cycling up the local Cols - Le Tour often passes by or finishes near here. Annecy is only a short distance away too.

“Authentic french hospitality and warmth in delightful peaceful setting”
Our family of six (children ages 13, 11, 8 & 4) just returned from a truly wonderful stay at this charming, lovingly restored farmhouse. We all loved the character of the place with its exposed stone, wooden beams, quirky staircases and loft space.
The food was another highlight--Carole is a talented cook who makes everything from scratch, from smoking her own salmon to slaving over the labour intensive duck confit served with champagne and homemade fruit sorbets on New Year's Eve. Carole visited with us as she served each course, sharing french family traditions and stories with us that made the whole experience very warm and personal--not to mention delicious!
The kids were made to feel right at home: welcomed to join in the daily trip to the neighbouring farm to get fresh milk and cheese, given free rein to run around outdoors and play, and invited to watch movies, colour and play games in their own living room. Perhaps what helped us enjoy our holiday most of all was their flexibility: they watched our four year old on days we wanted to ski harder with the older kids, they provided ski tuition for our older ones on an ad-hoc basis, they delivered a continental breakfast at any time you liked each morning, they served dinner earlier for whichever children wanted it on a daily basis and drove us to and from the slopes whenever we asked (within traffic and the other group's constraints of course). They were relaxed hosts and nothing was ever too much trouble. Not only did they welcome some friends of ours to dinner several nights, they kindly drove them back to La Clusaz afterwards! The beds were comfy, the towels thick, the rooms spacious, and the views stunning. Just be aware that the journey is slightly longer to the slopes (you have the benefit of two resorts to choose from) than we expected--more like 15 minutes than 5 as the website says--not a problem, but just take that into account if you have ski school schedules to keep.

“I will be going back.”
I stayed here with my 2 teenage sons for 4 nights in March 2012. Carole picked us up from the airport and then continued to transport us around at our whim for the duration of our stay. The food was excellent as was the wine selection (pay for what you drink). The 2 apartments are self contained each with 3 excellent large en suite rooms together with a large lounge and kitchen. Fresh continental breakfasts were always waiting for us in our kitchen each morning. Excellent evening meals were taken downstairs with all other guests and were tailored to guest's likes and dislikes and were of a very high standard. The apartments are around 10 minutes away from the ski resorts of Le Grand Bornand and Le Clusaz. Le Grand Bornand has great skiing and is usually quiet as the main UK tour operators haven't found it yet. We would phone Carole as we got on the bubble down to the village and she would be waiting to take us & all our gear home by the time we got there! The on site sauna and whirlpool is a great way to end the day. The apartments are very quiet (virtually in the middle of nowhere!) which is very relaxing. I have no hesitation in recommending and will be going back.

“A unique experience”
Such an authentic place! We lived a unique experience in this marvellous wooden chalet. You will love its stunning looks and its owners’ warm welcome. It’s ideally located close to La Clusaz. We really enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful living room, in the suana and in the jacuzzi. The bedrooms are big and well equipped. Just stunning.

Why Le Grand Bornand?
Le Grand Bornand is an idyllic Alpine village which happens to be surrounded by some great skiing and in summer, a superb mountain playground. There are none of the huge hotel complexes you'll find in other ski resorts – just a friendly welcome all year round. Families are particularly welcome, with a great programme of activities to keep kids of all ages busy and happy.
