Chalet Happyview ...
A swimming pool, gym, home cinema and sauna will be waiting for you at this lavishly restored chalet after a wonderful day exploring the Aravis mountains.
Summer or winter, this superb chalet, perched above the beautiful ski village of Le Grand Bornand, is a great place to explore this wonderful area. And when you're not out and about, you can enjoy the wonderful views from the terrace or the swimming pool.
With its tranquil, south-facing location, Chalet Happyview is just a short drive through the forest from the main road, which gives you great access to the other Aravis resorts of La Clusaz and Manigod. The shops, restaurants and bars of Le Grand Bornand are 1.6km from the chalet, and the ski bus stops just 600m away.
In the summer, the ski slopes are replaced with lush meadows and a vast network of hiking and biking trails - it's a great time to visit.
There's always plenty going on in Le Grand Bornand, which has a packed programme of events throughout the summer and winter seasons. There's also a great choice of shops, bars and restaurants and a weekly market, where you can pick up local cheeses, meats and preserves.
About the property ...
With 8 bedrooms and 11 beds, there's plenty of room for everyone at this superb chalet (maximum capacity : 23 people), which is set over three main floors. As you enter on the ground floor, the spacious hall leads you to the ski store with heated boot rack and the home cinema (adults must supervise their children in the home cinema). There are four bedrooms on this floor: two form a family suite, comprising of a double room and a bunk room, which share a shower room. There's also another double room and a bunk room, both of which have en suite shower rooms and can be used as a family suite. All of the bedrooms in the chalet have TVs. There's also a separate WC on this floor.
The wonderful well-being area (for guests over 16) is on the first floor - there's a shower and a sauna room, opening on to a sunny terrace with a year-round, concealed pool available all year round and heated with geothermy. The 'mazot' or storage room in the garden has been converted into a gym, where you can work out in privacy.
There are four individually-designed bedrooms on this floor, all of which have access to the balcony which wraps around the chalet. the first room has a double bed, bunks and an en suite shower room. Another is a double with en suite shower room. The third double bedroom also has a dressing area, and the fourth room has an en suite bathroom. There is a laundry room with a washer and dryer on this floor, as well as a separate WC.
The impressive main living area is on the second floor, where it makes the most of the views and access to the garden. A huge three-sided sofa surrounds an open fire, for cosy nights in, and there's a huge dining table where everyone can sit down and eat together. Picture windows flood this floor with light, and open on to a furnished covered terrace, where you can enjoy coffee and soak up the view.
Cooking is a pleasure in the sleek modern kitchen, which has a breakfast bar and everything you need to cook up a hearty meal. If you're catering for a crowd, there's a useful second kitchen with a large 80cm oven and induction hob as well as more preparation space.
There's another stylish double bedroom on this floor, which has a large en suite bathroom with a bath and separate shower. There's also a separate WC.
A mezzanine floor overlooking the living room is home to a bunk room for four younger guests, who will have their own snow room as well as video games and a TV area.
Chalet Happyview has a garage for two vehicles, complete with an electric charging station.
About the area ...
When you stay at Chalet Happyview, you're just a 2km drive from the pistes and just a short walk from the ski bus stop.
The ski bus, which also serves La Clusaz, stops just 60m from the chalet, and it's free to use with your Aravis ski pass. This pass covers more than 220km of pristine pistes, in the resorts of Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and Manigod, so there's plenty of challenge for skiers and boarders of all abilities. There are also plenty of cross-country trails.
Non-skiers won't be bored either - try hiking or snowshoeing, paragliding, hot-air ballooning, ice-skating or ice-climbing. Le Grand Bornand boasts the Famille Plus mark, ensuring that there is always plenty of entertainment and activities for even the youngest visitors.
In the summer, a network of walking and biking trails criss-cross the slopes, and you can pick up a route map for either at the tourist office. Le Grand Bornand is one of the stops on the Route de Grand Alpes cycle trail, which links Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean coast via some stunning Alpine passes. The village also features regularly in the Tour de France, Check out the Col de la Colombière, which also features in the 44-Tour du Bargy (go clockwise to reduce the amount of time you spend on the main road), and the scenic Col des Annes - a less well-known pass offering great views of the Pointe Percée and the Aravis mountains.
Le Grand Bornand has a beautiful nine-hole golf course with a great driving range, and on those very hot days, why not head for the fantastic swimming pool complex, with a restaurant and grassy areas for picnics.
If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, there’s a climbing school, via ferrata routes, a tree-top adventure park, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding all nearby.
August sees the international children’s festival - Au Bonheur des Mômes - in Le Grand Bornand, a week of magic shows, circus acts, theatre, games and workshops, with a grand firework finale. It’s always hugely popular, so make sure you book early to guarantee a holiday you’ll never forget!
