About Chalet J'Elage...
Tucked away in a quiet close of just five properties at the foot of the mountains, Chalet J'Elage is a great place for a family holiday in the Alps, whatever the time of year.
It's a short drive (or a 15-minute walk) to the village of Saint Jean de Sixt, where there are several shops, including a popular bakery, sports hire shops, delicatessen, post office, supermarket, bar and restaurants. Despite its quiet location, it's not far from the main road which links La Clusaz to Le Grand Bornand, and it's just a 30-minute drive to Annecy and less than an hour to Geneva airport.
The property ...
This comfortable chalet sleeps 10 (maximum 8 adults) and is perfect for a young family (or even two!). There's a lovely flat garden and plenty of books, DVDs and games to keep everyone entertained when you're not enjoying the great outdoors, which is right on your doorstep.
As you enter the lobby area, there's a ski room and utility room with washer and dryer, where outdoor gear can be left to dry ready for the next day.
In the living area, cosy sofas piled with cushions are arranged around the large wood-burning fire, built in local stone. Patio doors open on to a large decked area and garden, which has an unusual semi-circular seating area perfect for enjoying the sunset or a barbecue. The kitchen and dining area are also open plan, so cooking and eating together is a sociable affair. There's a shower room here too, and a bedroom with two sets of bunks and a nautical theme that kids will adore.
There are three more bedrooms upstairs, one with a super king size bed. The other two rooms each have a king-size bed, which can be turned into a set of 2 singles, plus a double bed settee so that families can all be together if they prefer. Two of the bedrooms open on to a spacious balcony with a table and chairs where you can sit and enjoy the view of the Aravis mountains, while the third bedroom looks out towards the beautiful Plateau de Glieres. The large family bathroom has a bath with shower over and two basins, and the toilet is separate.
About the area ...
Whether you've got young or older beginners in your ski party, Chalet J'Elage is the perfect place to help them find their ski legs.
Chalet J'Elage is right in the heart of some great skiing. Halfway between La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand ski resorts (both just 10 minutes drive away), you can ski somewhere new every day.
The Aravis ski pass also covers the Manigod area, giving you 220km of pistes of varying levels to explore, as well as extensive off-piste action. Nordic skiers will discover plenty of trails from St Jean de Sixt - in fact there's a 7km trail just behind the chalet.
There's a free sledging run behind the town hall too!. Non-skiers can go ice skating or swimming in La Clusaz, where the heated indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides and the exciting ski-joering - skiing while being towed by a horse! After all that excitement why not enjoy some pampering at one of the two spas in La Clusaz - you've earned it!
There's plenty to do here in the spring and summer too. St Jean de Sixt is one of only two places in the world where you can try Bun-J ride, a cross between ski jumping and bungee jumping! It's open all year round. Other more traditional pastimes are available too - marked footpaths crisscross the mountains, many starting right from your front door, or you can explore by mountain bike - take the lift to the top of the mountain then come back down at your own pace.
There are a number of mountain farms within a walk of the chalet, where you can see the local Reblochon cheese being made - you'll come away with a delicious treat for the walk back! Cool off at the swimming pool complexes in Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and Thônes, or if you're looking for something a little more challenging, there's a climbing school, via ferrata routes, tree-top adventure parks, canyoning, white-water rafting, horse-riding, karting and paragliding all nearby.

The OVO Network Review
Chalet J’Elage is a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom chalet for 10 (max 8 adults) spread over two floors and 130m2 of floor space.
The owners have spent many happy holidays at the chalet with their own children and have set the chalet up with everything required for their guests to have an easy and enjoyable family holiday experience.
With a lovely large flat lawn, an unusual semi-circular stone bench, dining table, sunbeds and a table tennis table out of doors, this property works as well in summer as it works in winter. The garden is open to the access road for the 5 chalets close by, not a main road.
Children can find space to play or read in the cute ensuite bunk room on the ground floor - the upstairs bedrooms are spacious and two have cosy sofas too. That leaves plenty of room for the adults to relax in peace and quiet downstairs!
Although not in a village, the chalet is within a 15-minute walk of St Jean de Sixt, gateway to Grand Bornand and La Clusaz. There are plenty of shops, supermarkets, and restaurants within easy reach by car.
You can buy milk directly from the farm a short walk away.
That is all extra to the magnificent Aravis ski resorts of La Clusaz and Grand Bornand.
With many positive reviews from very happy summer and winter guests alike, especially from families, and, a 4-star rating from the local official classification body there is plenty to enjoy at Chalet J’Elage. In particular, we know from feedback that guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, the extra homely deco touches, and the comfy beds.

From the owner
Susan Clare & Timothy
In 1995 we found ourselves bringing up three young children (aged 3, 4 and 6) in central London. We were desperate to find a balance to their urban life in the school holidays.
Having searched for two years all over France, we still hadn't found anywhere where we could see ourselves spending all our school holidays. And then we took the children on their first skiing holiday.
We wanted somewhere with minimal travel time once we landed at the airport, somewhere that felt truly 'French' and that had a charm and tradition about it. A place where the children as beginners would be well catered for but also somewhere with good, challenging skiing for us whilst they were in ski school. We found La Clusaz.
We found love! We found somewhere we could picture ourselves being happy every month of the year.
After one magical holiday in the February, we came back for three crazy days the following month and looked at 20 properties in the area. Chalet J'Elage was the first property we saw straight off the 'red eye', but it became the benchmark for everywhere else that we looked at.
By the exhausted end of day 3 we phoned the agency on the way back to Geneva airport and made an offer - that's the sort of crazy thing you do when it's love at first sight. After a couple of days of back and forwards a deal was done on one proviso. The day was Friday.
We had to sign the compromis - the French exchange contract - by Monday.
You really, really have to be in love to move a mountain that big in that small amount of time but somehow or other the compromis was signed at 1645 on Monday 14th March 2005. And then the completion on Friday 17th June. We had found our retreat.
We had found our antidote to London life.
And so for nearly 10 glorious years, Chalet J'Elage has been at the heart of our family and also has lived in our hearts whilst we are back in our 'real life' It has brought us joy, excitement, adventure, intimacy and memories by the bucketful.
We have shared our special place with friends and family alike and have celebrated the fact that our home has affected all who stay there in exactly the same way - they don't want to leave, they eagerly look forward to returning. The children's friends have visited and in turn they have persuaded their families to holiday in beautiful Aravis and somehow, imperceptibly, Chalet J'Elage and this perfect corner of the Alps, had crept into the hearts of far more than just the five of us.
And now it's time to share the chalet with a wider group - with people we don't know. But somehow, the knowledge that others will be affected by the chalet in the way that we and our nearest and dearest have - will discover the soul enriching essence of the mountains and lake alike - makes that a happy and exciting prospect. Happy Holidays.
May you enjoy our stylish, contemporary and well-appointed home but above all, the intrinsic atmosphere and essence of Chalet J'Elage*
* For the curious amongst you, we share with you that J'Elage is an name created from the first two letters of our children's names - George, Jack and Ella - so don't worry if you can't find it in your dictionary!

Guest reviews
“The chalet is tastefully decorated and the facilities are of a high standard”
The chalet is tastefully decorated and the facilities are of a high standard. the rooms are very beautiful with an absolutely fantastic view. We also appreciated the fireplace and the fact that pets are allowed, which is rare. however, you should be aware that the slopes are not accessible on foot and are 10 minutes away by car. The shuttles are quite far away, so it's difficult to have a stay without a car. Apart from that, everything was impeccable!
“Your perfect home away from home”
Very nice, well-furnished, comfortable house - has everything you need. Quiet location, highly recommended.
