About Chalet Carter ...
Chalet Carter is perfectly placed to enjoy all the mountains have to offer - it's close to the busy village of St Jean de Sixt, which is halfway between the resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand. Both are easily accessible by car or ski bus.
This stylish 4 star chalet sleeps 11 people in five bedrooms, with three bath/shower rooms. It's an ideal choice for larger groups who want to make the most of the mountains in the winter or summer, but would like a peaceful base to come back to at the end of a busy day.
Chalet Carter has been totally refurbished by its owners, who have had great fun decorating it. You will feel instantly at home in this cosy chalet, where wood, stone and slate work well with natural textiles such as leather, wool and faux fur to create a warm, contemporay feel.
There's a good choice of shops and restaurants inf St Jean de Sixt, and the ski bus stops 800m from your door. In the summer, you can walk to the village through the woods in just 15 minutes, and a 45-minute walk will get you to the lovely market in the village of La Clusaz.
The property ...
Steps lead up to the entrance of Chalet Carter from the parking area in front of the property.
The accommodation is set over four floors, and you enter on the third floor. You'll pass a bunk room for two and a shower room before you reach the welcoming open-plan living area. The well-equipped kitchen has plenty of room to cook up a feast and the dining area opens on to a terrace with stunning views of the mountains.
The cosy living room has a corner sofa with plenty of cushions and throws to keep you snuggly whatever the weather outside, and views onto the lovely deck and enclosed garden. There's another living room/games room downstairs, where younger guests can do their own thing.
Go up a floor to find four more bedrooms - three twins/doubles across the front of the chalet, with access to the upper balcony and fabulous mountain views. The bedrooms have plenty of storage, quality bedding and funky furniture with a bit of a design twist!
The fifth and final bedroom is a twin room with a bunk bed above - great for kids! This room also has a very large wardrobe and views over the garden. There is a large family bathroom on this floor as well as a shower room and a separate toilet.
Fancy admiring those stunning views from your jacuzzi (up to 40°C)? You'll find it on the large terrace on the lower ground floor. Below this floor is the garage, laundry and boot room, with plenty of room for skis and bikes. There's also an electric car charging point.
About the area ...
Whether you are visiting the French Alps in the winter or summer, Chalet Carter in St Jean de Sixt is in a great location to make the most of the mountain activities. Halfway between the villages of La Clusaz and and Le Grand Bornand, there's great skiing in both directions.
Together with Manigod, these villages offer 220km of pristine pistes with a great snow record, and something for all abilities. There's also a great ski bus network, which links the three areas and is free with your Aravis ski pass, so you can ski somewhere new every day. There are also plenty of trails for Nordic skiers in St Jean de Sixt.
Non-skiers can go ice skating or swimming in La Clusaz, where the heated indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides and the exciting ski-joering - skiing while being towed by a horse! After all that excitement why not enjoy some pampering at one of the many spas - you've earned it!
There's plenty to do here in the spring and summer too. St Jean de Sixt is one of only two places in the world where you can try Bun-J ride, a cross between a ramp descent and bungee jumping! Other more traditional pastimes are available too - marked footpaths crisscross the mountains, many starting right from your front door, or you can explore by mountain bike - take the lift to the top of the mountain then come back down at your own pace.
There are a number of mountain farms within a walk of the chalet, where you can see the local Reblochon cheese being made - you'll come away with a delicious treat for the walk back! Cool off at the swimming pool complexes in Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and Thônes, or if you're looking for something a little more challenging, there's a climbing school, via ferrata routes, tree-top adventure parks, canyoning, white-water rafting, horse-riding, karting and paragliding all nearby.

The OVO Network Review
This newly-renovated five-bedroom, three-bathroom chalet for 11 (max 8 adults) is spread over four floors and 198m2 of floor space. The decor is bright, colourful and contemporary, and the gorgeous second lounge / TV room is a particular favourite with our team.
The main lounge overlooks the huge side terrace and the views down the Thônes valley beyond. The second lounge / TV room means everyone can get their TV / gaming fix.
Larger groups can spread out according to what they want to do - play or watch!
Bedrooms are super stylish, with plenty of storage, very comfy beds, reading lights and phone charging points next to the beds.
Keen cooks will enjoy the open-plan layout of the main communal spaces; they too can be involved in conversations, and not shut away in the kitchen!
Sporty guests will appreciate the direct access to the ski storage from the parking, meaning wet sports kit can be offloaded downstairs as soon as they arrive back home. Outside, the panoramic views from the jacuzzi, on the south-facing terrace to the front of the chalet are peaceful and calm.
Chalet Carter welcomes dogs: the garden to the rear of the chalet is enclosed, and there is a gate to close off the jacuzzi deck. The owners are dog lovers themselves; in fact, the chalet is named after a family pet.
The chalet is out of the centre of the local resorts, 3.5km away from the pistes of La Clusaz and Grand Bornand, but it's conveniently close to St Jean de Sixt and Thônes for shopping. Guests who don't want to drive can take the bus from the nearest bus stop, 800m away.
The chalet is well set up for most guests!

From the owner

Pamela & James
Our story with the area started over 25 years ago. What keeps us coming back is the sense of tranquility, but with as much adventure as you could wish for - the feeling of being alive that the mountains give you, summer or winter, the great food, the friendly welcome you get when coming back, the variety of activities for all ages in the mountains or down at the lake.
We always knew that we'd want a home out here, and that became a reality with Chalet Carter. Having stayed in a lot of places, we've learnt what makes a great stay in the Aravis.
We have spent five months completely renovating the chalet to incorporate that experience, without compromise, to create a luxurious home designed around family living. There's space to store bikes, skis/boards and importantly, warm your boots, a den for the kids (or adults!) to hide away in, comfy beds to ensure a great night's sleep, and the three terraces ensuring there's always somewhere to sit in the sun, whilst kids and dogs can roam around the completely secure garden and terraces without worry.
We're near enough to the village that you can walk to get the morning bread or walk in for dinner, but still tucked away and peaceful. There are walks in the woods two minutes from the door, with streams to paddle in to cool off, and plenty of dens to be built! Saint Jean de Sixt is just 3km from both La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, so it's just a short drive to the slopes.
Chalet Carter feels like home to us - we hope it will for you too.
