Chalet Pahar 360

As well as its pretty church, there's a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants in Combloux. For more choice you could head to Sallanches (6km) or the sophisticated resort of Chamonix (30km).

Please note - Chalet Pahar 360 is at the end of a long gravel drive, which may be tricky to negotiate in heavy snow. We therefore recommend using a 4x4 car fitted with snow tyres.

About the property ...

This three-storey traditional chalet sleeps nine guests (six adults) in four spacious en suite bedrooms.

As you enter from the terrace on the ground floor, you'll pass the garage which has ski storage before you get to the first two bedrooms both of which open on to the hot tub terrace. The first is a children's room with two bunk beds and a third bed below them, and an en suite bathroom with a separate shower and WC. The double bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and an en-suite shower room. There's also a laundry room with a washing machine, a dryer and plenty of drying space, and a separate WC.

The first-floor living area is beautifully bright and airy, thanks to the full-height windows and doors that lead on to the balcony. There's another entrance hall with storage space and a WC before you get to the cosy TV area, where you can curl up on the leather sofa and chairs to watch a film. More sofas and chairs are positioned in front of the windows and a fireplace - this is a great corner to enjoy a chat with friends. The large dining table has room for everyone to sit and eat together, and doors lead from this area on to the furnished balcony, which wraps around four sides of the chalet, giving you an almost 360-degree view of the Mont Blanc mountains.

The well-equipped kitchen is separated from the dining area by a breakfast bar, where you can grab a quick snack before heading out for the day, or sit and keep the cook company as they prepare the evening meal.

There are two more bedrooms on the top floor, both of which are built in under the eaves and overlook the living area. The first, a double room, has an en suite shower room while the spacious master suite has a large double bed with a pop-up television, a sofa and home office as well as an en suite bathroom with a bath, separate shower and WC.

There is plenty of room to park three cars on the gravel area outside the chalet.

About the area ...

Chalet Pahar 360 is in a great location for those who love mountain sports, whatever their level - Combloux, along with Megève, and Saint-Gervais, is part of the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area, and it's just a 30-minute drive to the Espace Diamant, which comprises Praz-sur-Arly, Bellecombe, Crest-Volant, Flumet, and Saisies. This area played host to the winter Olympics in 1992, so you can be sure of great facilities.

Experienced skiers looking for some stunning night skiing should head for the Vallée Blanche - do hire a guide for this 23km run which, with a 2,000m drop, will take you from the Aiguille du Midi to the Mer de Glace, an almost surreal experience under a full moon.

For a change from skiing, why not try dog-sledding or snow-shoe walking, which are both available within a short drive of Chalet Pahar 360. For a little more adventure, why not try ice climbing, via ferrata or paragliding.

In the summer, the mountains become the domain of walkers and cyclists. There's so much to see in this varied landscape, explore the Argentière glacier or perhaps the Baroque footpath, a 20km trail from Combloux to Les Contamines-Montjoie which takes you past some of the area's finest baroque buildings. Look out for marmots along the way!

Fancy a swim? Head for the man-made ecological lake at Combloux, where you can relax in the pure waters fed by mountain streams surrounded by wildflowers and stunning views of Mont Blanc. Take a picnic and relax while the kids enjoy the great play area. There's also a sauna and a hammam, as well as a restaurant.
