Annecy Old Town Market

Tuesday, Friday & Sunday 7am - 1pm
Immerse yourself in the colour, scents and sounds of a traditional French market in Annecy’s historic old town. Find everything from cheese, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables to clothing, kitchen gadgets and street food. Friday’s market also has flowers.

Annecy Crafts, Arts & Flea Markets

Last Saturday of each month
The various craft, art and flea markets are fabulous to explore. From hand-made jewellery, clothing and furniture, to bric-a-brac, antiques and paintings, there’s plenty to choose from to take home!

La Clusaz Market

Every Monday 8am - noon
La Clusaz’s weekly market is a wonderful place to explore whether you’re visiting in winter or summer. Fresh produce, local handicrafts, clothing, cheeses, jewellery and more are all available, plus a fabulous atmosphere.

Night skiing and sledging

Several stations offer regular night skiing or sledging, which is a holiday highlight for many of our guests. 

Le Grand Bornand - In Chinaillon you can take to one of the longest lit-up slopes in the Haute Savoie area, by ski, yooners, skibikes, parets, snowscoots and fatbike! Every Tuesday, but other dates are also available. Check the website for details of dates and ski bus times.

Manigod - Night skiing

You can ski under the stars until 9pm every Friday and Saturday night in Manigod, one of the biggest night skiing areas in the Haute Savoie. The restaurants on the pistes stay open too, making it a night out to remember.

 

Manigod - Paret sledging

Come along after the pistes close every day to try the wooden sledge which was native to Manigod, under the supervision of ESF instructors.  Once used by the village children to get to school, now it’s mainly used for fun.

Le Grand Bornand - Paret sledging

Every Tuesday, from January 4 to March 10, children over the age of six can learn how to sledge Aravis-style! The paret is like a stool on a single ski - local children used it to get to school in days gone by. Contact the tourist office for more information on this great free activity.

Until January 5, Alpine Christmas

Various locations, Annecy

Christmas starts early in Annecy, with the old town lit up from late November. There’s also an outdoor ice skating rink outside the Courier shopping centre, Nativity scenes in the churches, a Christmas market and a programme of concerts. Check with the tourist office for details as they become available, and see the OVO Network blog post on Christmas markets.

December 3, St Andrew’s Fair

Annecy

This huge market takes place every year on the first Tuesday of December. More than 1,000 traders and 5km of stalls fill the streets of Annecy, with a huge variety of produce from food, wine, arts and crafts. Traditionally, this was an opportunity for local farmers to get together and trade produce, and for others to stock up with everything they needed to get them through the winter. Nowadays, it’s a great chance to pick up some unusual Christmas gifts.

December 16-22, Biathlon World Cup

Le Grand Bornand

The French stage of the Biathlon World Cup tour takes place at the Sylvie Becaert stadium, and with more than 60,000 spectators set to attend, expect a bit of a party! Check the website for the programme.

December 22-24, Christmas Cheer

Manigod

There’s a full festive programme from 11am to 7pm every day in the run-up to Christmas Day. As well as a Christmas market, there’s marshmallow parties, sledging, Christmas concerts and, of course, the arrival of Santa himself. Please check the website for more details of the programme.

December 23 - January 1, Pestacles du Père Noël

Various locations, La Clusaz

This fabulous street festival has been going for over 20 years, and is one of the biggest in the Alps. The village is transformed into a festive wonderland for a celebration of Christmas with something for all ages. Father Christmas arrives at Le Bossonnet on Christmas Eve and parades down to the church. Expect magicians, puppet shows, story-telling and music throughout the village.

December 24, Christmas in Le Grand Bornand Chinaillon

Le Grand Bornand and Chinaillon

A magical evening which ends with the arrival of Father Christmas himself! The fun starts at 4pm, with music, parades, and the torchlit descent, and the big man himself will make an appearance at the tourism office at 6.30pm. Contact the tourist office for the full programme.

Manigod

Celebrate the New Year with night skiing on the slopes at La Croix Fry, Manigod, until 9pm, then party until midnight. The evening kicks off with a welcome drink at 5.30pm and a torchlit descent at 6pm, followed by fireworks. Then it’s music and dancing all the way to 2020!

January 11, Le Belier Blanc Trail

Plateau du Beauregard and La Clusaz

More than 4,500 runners and walkers are expected to take part in this annual trail, which marks its 34th year in 2020. There’s an 8km snowshoe trek as well as the 11km White trail for runners. There’s a hot meal for all the competitors when they arrive back in the village at the end of the course. If you’re not taking part, there’s plenty of entertainment throughout the evening. February 1, La Bornandine cross-country ski race

Le Grand Bornand

More than 500 competitors take part in this annual race, and there’s even a special version, La Colimareille, for children aged between nine and 12. The event remembers Colette, Éliane, Mado, Mireille - four young instructors from the Grand-Bornand cross-country ski school who disappeared in November 1978.

La Clusaz

The highlight of the winter season in La Clusaz, for guests and residents. The fun starts at about 7pm, when ski instructors and guides take part in a fancy dress parade with floats through the village. There’s plenty of music, and, of course, a firework finale.

February 26, L’Etoile de Manigod

Col de Merdassier, Manigod

Meet on the slopes at 3pm for an afternoon and evening of fun. Try out handiski, paret sledging, music and a marshmallow party. Once darkness falls, there’s a torchlit descent organised by the ESF team, followed by fireworks. If you’re hungry, choose from crepes, soup or tartiflette.

This annual festival is organised by Radiomeuh, an online radio station based in La Clusaz with 3.3 million listeners around the world. April 13, Easter Egg hunt

An Easter treat for young children and their parents. Come and hunt for chocolate eggs, which are hidden all around the village. There are two sessions: Those with children aged one to five should meet at the Parcours de Sante from 10am to noon, and those with children aged over six should meet at La Grenette from 2-6pm.

April 19, Lake Annecy International Marathon

Lake Annecy

There could hardly be a more spectacular setting for a marathon, between the snow-topped mountains and the turquoise waters of Lake Annecy. As well as the main event, there’s a half marathon and races for children aged between seven and 15. The marathon route also takes in the villages of Sevrier, Saint-Jorioz, Duingt and Doussard. Even if you’re not taking part, it’s a great spectacle, with music and a great party atmosphere.

April 19, Defi Foly

Lac des Confins, La Clusaz

Every year since 1987, 150 of the area’s craziest skiers have headed for the Lac des Confins to mark the end of the ski season in La Clusaz. The idea is to ski down the hill and see how far you can get across the icy lake before you sink, and are rescued by boat. The record is 155m, set by Philippe Troubat in 2010. If you think you can beat that, register at the website below.  It’s a great day for spectators too - bring a picnic and grab a good spot on the hillside for this day-long event.
