About Chalet La Vielle Ferme ...
As the name suggests, luxurious Chalet OVO La Vieille Ferme is a traditional farmhouse that has been stylishly modernised, with great attention to detail, whilst retaining its Alpine charm.
The chalet is in an amazing spot, with stunning views across Manigod valley. Families will feel instantly welcome, especially those with young children, with the enclosed terrace and a flat grassed area ideal for football. Inside, old wood and exposed stone have been retained, and modern touches added to ensure that you have everything you need for a care-free holiday in the Alps, all year round.
In Manigod, just a five-minute walk, you can enjoy freshly baked croissants and bread from the local boulangerie or savour some fresh, local dishes, such as raclette and fondue, in the popular Val Sulens restaurant.
Less than an hour from Geneva, the Aravis region is a great base for holidays all year round. Check availability now, to make sure you don't miss out on your chance to visit La Vieille Ferme.
The chalet has easy access to the main road, via a large tarmac driveway, which is regularly cleared of snow. The chalet itself, unlike many in the vicinity, has the advantage of being set above the road (accessed by external stairs) and guests can enjoy fabulous views of the mountains from the spacious top terraces at the front and smaller terrace at the back.
The property ...
You'll fall in love with this beautiful old farmhouse when you book it for your holiday in the Alps.
Spacious rooms, a fabulous entrance hall and incredible views, are just some of the features that make it special.
Geared for comfort and cosiness, the open plan living area on the upper floor has a cheerful open fire and there are plush furnishings and homely touches throughout. It also has WiFi, TV, DVD, table tennis, and lots more home-from-home features. The large kitchen has everything you need to cook for a crowd. There are also two bedrooms - a twin and a double, which opens on to a terrace - as well as a bathroom on this floor.
There are two more bedrooms, again a twin and a double room, on the lower floor, with another large bathroom and a separate toilet.
About the area ...
In winter, Chalet La Vieille Ferme is at the heart of a huge ski area to enjoy with a fabulous snow record.
Manigod, La Clusaz and Grand Bornand share a single Aravis Ski pass that provides 220km of skiing and 95 lifts with slopes suitable for all levels including extensive off-piste areas. You can be on the La Clusaz pistes in under 10 mins by car. Alternatively, the ski bus stops just outside the chalet.
Cross-country skiers will find plenty of trails, and non-skiers will love the heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, ice skating rink and cinema in La Clusaz, as well as sledging, show-shoe walking, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
There are plenty of activities to enjoy in summer too, ranging from mountain biking, Alpine walking and horse riding through to mountaineering, climbing and paragliding. There are also high-wire forest adventure centres for the whole family to enjoy.
With such a vast expanse of tracks, trails, paths and sky across fragrant meadows, you'll never run out of fresh challenges.
Whatever the season, medieval Annecy with its pretty network of canals and picturesque lake is just 30 minutes away. Soak up the carnival atmosphere, browse the quaint shops and markets or try out one of the many international-standard golf courses.
The lake itself has some fabulous beaches and offers kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing and fishing for water-lovers. And what a backdrop! There's much more to explore in the region besides. No matter which outdoor activities you're into, you're sure to have a fantastic holiday at any time of the year.
If you'd like to spend some time exploring the beautiful Aravis region from Chalet La Vielle Ferme, check our calendar to see when it is available - when you've chosen your dates, we can hold them for 24 hours while you make your plans. But don't wait too long - this is a very popular property with our guests.

From the Owner
Everyone who has ever stayed there loves it. It's a happy place you instantly relax in, as soon as you open the doors.
" Our chalet, 'CHALET OVO LA VIEILLE FERME' is over 200 years old, and was lovingly restored by my husband, Nick 15 years ago. After various modifications over the years, both inside and out, it has become a perfect family getaway all year-round. It is unusual because of the determination of Nick and architects, to retain as much of the original material as possible. So whereas you get all the comforts and luxury of a modern chalet, you get the atmosphere and warmth of a much more historic building. Everyone who has every stayed there loves it. It's a happy place and the sort of place you instantly relax in, as soon as you open the doors.
The exterior was remodelled to provide a very large, safe, wood-decked terrace for small babies and toddlers to play, immediately outside the main entrance. There are of course, sun loungers for adults, and table and chairs for summer dining. There is a barbecue that gets a lot of use at the height of summer. This terrace is also a major play area in the winter - perfect for children to run around and play in the snow. There is also a lower, grassy terrace, now used for badminton or football by our boys and their friends in the summer. Around the back of the chalet, the master bedroom opens up onto a further terrace where we escape for quiet reading if the children are playing in the front. There is one more terrace just below where we use for hanging out the washing and table tennis! I think one of the great things about the chalet is that there are these different spaces outside to either play or sit and relax if you feel like hanging around and not going out anywhere. Very restorative for both adults and children.
But, energy levels restored, we love getting out and about and making the most of what the Alps has to offer. We all ski in the winter of course and we feel with our chalet, we get the best of both worlds - easy access to the slopes, but an escape from the hustle and bustle of a busy ski station. We are a 10 minute drive from the nearest ski port - Croix Fry. This is the base for Ecole de Ski Francais and most lessons start here if you choose that particular ski school (although there are others which operate from La Clusaz). Croix Fry is a great place for children to learn, with nursery slopes and an extensive area of blues and gentle reds. Perfect for family skiing and close enough to the chalet to be able to have more flexible days if you have children of different ages. For example, if you have older children who are taking lessons and a toddler or baby, you can join them for lunch or a play on the sledges, and easily nip back to the chalet with the toddler/baby when they've had enough. You also have access from here to the wonderful Etale and Merdassier mountains for more adventurous skiing.
When you have exhausted these areas, you have the option of driving on to La Clusaz or Grand Bornand where you can enjoy exploring more of the Col des Aravis. We tend to do a mixture of self-catering and eating out when we are at the chalet. You can get all your shopping done in Thônes, as there is an easily accessible supermarket. There are also some restaurants where you will get a good local meal. For more choice on the menu, go to La Clusaz! One of our favourite restaurants is Le Bercail, which is half way down L'Aiguille, the mountain central to La Clusaz. You can ski down to it for lunch during the day or drive up to a plateau above it in the winter evenings and someone will come and bring you down by snowmobile if you don't fancy the walk. In Summer, it's easy enough to park and walk down to it. The owners, Veronique and Boris are delightful - you always get a warm welcome, great service and delicious food.
In the Summer, we usually head down to Talloires, a village by the edge of Lake Annecy , where there is a special 'beach' area. This is a fantastic place for all ages. It's basically a huge grassy area at the edge of the lake with trees to shelter under from the heat and a café or restaurant and toilet/shower facilities. Life guards supervise the lake area, which is fabulous for swimming/diving/pedalos/water skiing or dinghy sailing. There is a shallow but large paddling pool built into the grass area for the younger ones, which is big enough for inflatable alligators/dinosaurs/dolphins and safe enough for the smallest of toddlers. We take picnics and meet friends and spend the entire day there. Older children can play volley ball and table tennis and even learn to scuba dive. For the more adventurous, there is paragliding too. We may also visit the two very good swimming pools nearby: one in La Clusaz which has both an indoor and an outdoor pool. The outdoor pool is heated all year round so even during the ski season, if you can brave the cold on your shoulders, you can enjoy a soak outside while looking up at snow-covered mountains.
Before children we used to do a lot of walking of course in the area but even with children if you are keen walkers you can still find something to suit. Ours love taking the telecabine from La Clusaz up to the top of Beau Regard, having an ice cream or a pasta lunch in one of the 2 restaurants up there, watching the crazy mountain bikers hurtling down past us and then walking slowly back down again. There is a small fromagerie en route where you can stop and buy some local cheese for a quick casse-croute.In La Clusaz itself there is a great little outdoor sports area for children, with a pool for bumper boats, a little quad bike track, 2 bouncy castles and a track for young mountain bikers. This is excellent for children under 8 and the best way to enjoy it is to buy a card from the office which you top up with credit and gives you a better deal for all the rides. There are other stations nearby which offer similar activities, including more serious quad biking for older children and adults. The local tourist offices in La Clusaz, Thônes and Manigod provide full details of everything there is to do in the area but apart from the main sporting activities, other favourites of ours are visits to nearby caves, the beautiful gorge - gorge du Fier, driving to Annecy for the day (about 30-40 minutes' drive), visits to one of the milking farms and a local museum of taxidermy where they have an extensive collection of wildlife (stuffed) and presented in a scene representing the mountains as opposed to glass boxes. It's not everyone's cup of tea but our children love it!

Why La Clusaz?
Less than an hour from Geneva, La Clusaz offers Alpine action all year round. A traditional farming village, it not only offers great skiing and superb summer activities, but also a real community feel, whenever you visit. Great restaurants, bars and nightlife combine with local markets, festivals and traditions to give you the best of all worlds.
“Our stay was perfect. ”
The chalet is very nice and the work you have done to restore the old barn was incredible (we saw the photos!). The location is scenic and quiet and there is much outdoor space to relax or for children to play. It's a chalet with character, very different from the new type of "design chalet". In winter, with snow, it must be even more fascinating.

“A comfortable and authentic chalet”
Located close to the beautiful Confins and Clarette valleys, it's a good base for some lovely walks. Lake Annecy has the atmosphere of the Cote d'Azur 20 years ago and we discovered beautiful mountains of Semnoz. A lovely welcome from Madame Fournier, the manager. A great holiday.

“A brilliant place to stay”
The location to Lake Annecy, the short distance to the village, and the outside space, ... we loved it all! The ski areas such as Grand Bornand and La Clusaz must be fantastic in winter.

“A wonderful place with a soul”
Fantastic! You should definitely check this wonderful place with a soul, very well appointed and very comfortable. The 10 of us (6 adults and 4 children) had plenty of space... Very good beds, and the house is very well equipped. Nothing was missing. We want nothing more but to come back another time! The sooner the better! In 10 minute drive you reach Croix Fry where you can get on the first lifts. Mr and Mrs Speed are very lucky to own this place...

“Nice place for 2 families”
We spent good holidays in this pretty chalet nicely decorated and furnished. Our little ones could safely play in the snow within the enclosed garden. The staircases are wide, and the chalet really spacious. There are also 2 living rooms, allowing adults to spend time together while kids play in the other room.

“Bravo!! Fantastic place!”
Congratulations on your amazing restoration of this old farm that you turned into a welcoming chalet with a lot of charm! It took you a lot of courage to jump into such an adventure, and you have succeeded in creating a cosy place where it feels good to relax. Summer must be great too, with the different terraces located in several place around the chalet. We loved La Clusaz, Croix Fry and the delicious restaurant at "Chalets de Marie-Ange"... Bravo !!!

We felt so good in this chalet! The resort is only 10 min away by car, very easy to access. La Clusaz is a family type of resort, small and pretty, with no concrete buildings to destroy the magnificent landscapes.

“A chalet with a soul”
My family just spent some quality time in this chalet with a real soul. We felt at home from the very first evening. Everything has been thought to make you feel comfortable. We really appreciated the way it's been adapted to children, with a real warm and welcoming touch. Lovely walks around the village. Very quiet location. Thank you to the managers who were always available to help and give good advise to explore this splendid region.

“The whole family loved it!”
Great family holiday at Chalet Vieille Ferme! This is a truly charming property and it's really well equipped. We did many hikes in the beautiful surrounding mountains and can't wait to come back to explore even more!

My wife and I with, for varying periods, our daughter, son-in-law and their young child and our son and his fiance, had a most enjoyable holiday in your chalet. We enjoyed the excellent facilities, the charm and the spaciousness of the property and the wonderful views. An altogether excellent property with every want catered for.

“A lovely stay”
The chalet was everything it promised and more, the views are spectacular and lots of room for everyone. Kitchen was very well equipped and the huge deck for evening drinks and barbecues was superb. Would certainly recommend.

“My son and I spent a fabulous 2 months in La Vieille Ferme...”
My son and I spent a fabulous 2 months in La Vieille Ferme with friends and family visiting throughout. It is in a fantastic location, being only 1 hour from Geneva, and so close to the wonderful ski area of La Clusaz. It is in a fantastic location, perfect for skiing and walking. It is large and comfortable and we particularly liked the outdoor patios especially during March when the weather was so fantastic. We also enjoyed the walking in the area, the guided walks being especially well run and varied. The chalet itself is extremely comfortable and any niggles I had were completely cosmetic. The fact that it is on the ski bus road was an added bonus, as was the short walk down to the local boulangerie for fresh croissants every morning.

“We had so much fun!”
Loved the views and sights, they were gorgeous. The weather was great the whole time and we got to enjoy many hikes and other fun day trips! The house was open and great, easy for our family to run around in. Thank you so much for letting us stay, it truly made our stay in France special! PS The bakery and shops down the road sold things which were DELICIOUS! Emma, Boston MA, USA

“Breathtakingly beautiful and quiet”
We stayed at la Vieille Ferme with some friends in August and had a fantastic holiday. The location is great: a short drive from Geneva yet breathtakingly beautiful and quiet. Our children (aged six and eight) really enjoyed swimming in Lake Annecy, climbing the aerial walkways (which terrified Mum and Dad!) and horseriding at Thones, and skating at La Clusaz. They even liked walking in the mountains – possibly because, with the help of the telecabine at La Clusaz, you can organise things so that you only have to go downhill. Mum and Dad also loved the local restaurants and the sheer physical beauty of the landscape. The chalet itself is very comfortable and well equipped. There were nine of us in total (four adults and five children) and it was easily big enough for us to relax without feeling on top of each other. There’s enough outside space for the children to exhaust themselves and for adults to hide away when they get a chance, and a great bakery and small supermarket are a short stroll away. We would thoroughly recommend it.
