About Chalet Morclan ...
You’ll struggle to take your eyes off the incredible views from Chalet Morclan near Manigod - La Clusaz. The large terraces on two sides of the house are the perfect place from which to admire the mountains of the Manigod valley - Etale, the Aiguille de Manigod, Mont Charvin, Val Sulens, and La Tournette.
Sitting on the crest of a hill, the chalet enjoys total privacy. It is reached by a lane which is kept clear of snow, but the 100m drive can be tricky to negotiate in winter - visitors may need to leave the car at the bottom and walk the last bit to be on the safe side! But it’s absolutely worth the effort.
There’s a narrow rural path at the back which is occasionally used by local farmers to bring sheep and felled trees down from the higher pastures, but apart from that you’ll enjoy splendid isolation.
Steep steps to the house and the open tread of the staircase mean it is not suitable for those with limited mobility or very small children, but groups with older children will love the homely touches such as books, DVDs, games and, in the garden, a trampoline.
Chalet Morclan is just 3km from the beautiful village of Manigod, where the church often hosts concerts and organ recitals as well as mass. You'll also find a bar/restaurant, a bakery, pottery shop, hairdressers, craft shop, health spa and a physio clinic in Manigod.
About the property ...
Groups of up to eight will find plenty of space in this well-planned chalet.
The spacious entrance hall leads to a well-equipped kitchen and a bright and spacious living/dining room. Two comfortable sofas and two large pouffes surround an open fire and the dining table has plenty of room for everyone to eat together.
There's a music system and the television offers a choice of French and English channels, but in good weather, open the doors on to the large terrace and eat outside so that you can enjoy the fabulous views.
There's a large double bedroom on this floor, which opens on to another sunny terrace and has an en suite shower room. The double bed can be separated in to two single beds, and there's a sofa which is the perfect place to grab a quiet moment with a good book. Also on this floor is a separate toilet and a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer - the underfloor heating makes this a great place to hang up your outdoor clothes so that they are warm and dry for the next day.
There are four more bedrooms upstairs. The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom with shower and bath as well as a dressing room. The two single beds clip together to form a large double and there are doors on to the sunny balcony. Next door is another large room which has a second lounge area with a day bed for a settee. There is also a TV, DVD player and a huge selection of books, as well as a double bed, wardrobe and drawers. It's a great place for children to hang out while the adults have dinner.
There are two more single bedrooms and a large family bathroom with a corner bath.
The bedding is all good quality, with lots of throws to keep you snug on the coldest of nights. Outside there's plenty of parking space as well as a small flat garden with a trampoline, a slide and a swing. The large furnished terrace is home to the hto tub, where you can soak up the sun from sunrise to sunset.
About the area ...
When you stay at Chalet Morclan you're right in the heart of some great skiing, without the hustle and bustle of the purpose-built ski resorts.
Parking is free at the Croix Fry sector of the La Clusaz pistes (altitude 1500m), 10km away, and the ski bus stops in Manigod, just 3km away. There's an ESF base, and parents can enjoy lunch or a drink while youngsters build confidence on the nursery slopes.
From here, your Aravis/La Clusaz ski pass gives you access to 95 lifts and 220km of pistes, so there's plenty of scope for skiers of every level.
Cross-country skiers will find plenty of trails to choose from on the nearby Beauregard plateau, and non-skiers are not forgotten, with a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, ice skating rink and cinema at La Clusaz, as well as sledging, snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
In the summer, you can explore the mountains and the pine forests by foot or by bike (if you are super-fit) from Chalet Morclan, and the half-hour walks into Manigod village are downhill on the way but uphill on the way back!
There are quite a few marked footpaths criss-crossing this beautiful farming valley, but if you want to make the most of the altitude, put your bike on the ski lift at La Clusaz and come back down at your own pace, or pack a picnic and explore the Beauregard plateau.
Adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, or white-water rafting within a few miles of Manigod. Via ferrata is another great family day out, with adults and children able to explore the mountains on iron walkways, secured to a harness. Why not go on a donkey trek in the Col des Aravis with a picnic in the large baskets carried by the donkeys?
Annecy is a great destination for a day out. Only 30 minutes away by car, there's a beautiful medieval town and canals to explore as well as the lake, where you can try a range of watersports, enjoy a cruise, hire a boat or just have a lazy day on the beach.

From the Owner
...there was the fabulous view...that still makes me catch my breath today, more than 20 years later.
We almost missed Manigod completely! Having decided to take a last-minute summer holiday with friends, we narrowed our choice to two possible locations: a villa in Veyrier-Du-Lac, or an old farm in Manigod.
We chose Manigod and several weeks later found ourselves taking the left turn just a couple of kilometres beyond Thones. The road began to climb until there was a break in the trees and suddenly there it was, that brief view of Etale before the road twisted. Another tantalising glimpse followed a little further on until eventually we rounded another bend and there was the fabulous view of the village framed by the mountain background that still makes me catch my breath today, more than 20 years later.
The Manigod valley is spectacular, no matter what the season.
We signed for the chalet that summer, and made a couple of short visits during the autumn to find the valley totally transformed from lush green to autumnal hues. The cows and goats were down from the high pastures dotted around the valley at various farms.
When we returned at Christmas, the valley had become a winter sports paradise, blanketed in thick snow. The Aravis mountains are not the highest peaks in the Alps by any means, but there is plenty of interesting, picturesque and varied skiing to suit all levels.
At Easter we collected the keys for the chalet in bright sunshine. A couple of days later we skied at Balme in the morning before watching Le Défi Foly (an end of season competition which involves sliding down the mountain and across an icy lake) at Confins in the afternoon.
Our visits that first year set the tone for what was to follow: the valley is different with each season and life here has a calm timeless quality. The local communities respect and promote the traditions that have given the valleys their individual characters and flavours.
The pastures cows graze on transform into busy ski fields each winter. Tradition meets modern life, high-energy activity meets peace and quiet. Our children have played on the playground at the village school in temperatures ranging from minus 20 to 40 degrees!
Chalet Morclan is on a crest, which means we enjoy almost panoramic views framed by Etale, Val Sulens, Tournette and the road up towards the Col de la Croix Fry. You could not wish to be in a more spectacular mountain setting, and yet we are just 30 minutes away from the lake with the medieval walled city of Annecy just beyond. Geneva airport is an hour away.
The chalet is a comfortable base in a beautiful setting - a home ideal for sharing with friends and family. Comfortable beds, plenty of bathrooms and hot water, a spacious terrace, and glorious views from each window.
We hope you enjoy spending time in this stunning space - take time to recharge your batteries, appreciate your surroundings, slow your pace, breathe and enjoy, before setting off on whichever type of mountain or lake adventure calls to you.
Tim and Karen
Why La Clusaz?
Less than an hour from Geneva, La Clusaz offers Alpine action all year round. A traditional farming village, it not only offers great skiing and superb summer activities, but also a real community feel, whenever you visit. Great restaurants, bars and nightlife combine with local markets, festivals and traditions to give you the best of all worlds.
“A great week in the Haute-Savoie area”
We spent a great stay and a fabulous week in the Haute-Savoie area.
Morclan is a gorgeous chalet, very welcoming and cosy.
We had great time in the Jacuzzi and around the fire with friends.
And despite a rainy and dull week, we had nice walks.
We'll keep in mind wonderful scenery and nice memories.
Many thanks for having us and providing help of all kinds.
Hopefully we'll be back very soon to enjoy the mountains and the sun.

We had a great time staying at chalet Morclan.
The view from the terrace was absolutely gorgeous, the hosts were super nice (we arrived past check in time, but it wasn't a problem at all).
The chalet is very well equipped and looks exactly as on the pictures of the advert.
We were happy with everything. Thank you for having us and hopefully we'll be able to come back soon.

“A wonderful chalet with stunning views”
A wonderful chalet in a perfect setting.
The wrap around balcony and beautiful views make this fantastic place.
Waking up each morning with these views was a real pleasure. We appreciated the goodies we were welcomed with - this is a nice touch.
We love this area and have stayed many times before, but never at a chalet with such
super views from every angle.

“Thank you for a lovely stay at your house”
Really relaxing and so comfortable to come home after a day's skiing. You have thought of everything - a real home away from home. We were so lucky to have glorious spring sunshine on several days which made a quick dip in the hot tub on the terrace even more decadent, watching the sun go down on the mountains. We have skied in Manigod, La Clusaz and Le Chinaillon this week, and at the end of each fabulous day we've relished coming home to Chalet Morclan. The space, comfort and tranquility away from the crowd of the slopes during a busy week. Thank you once again for all the home comforts and the special treat upon arrival.

“We felt at home!”
We are a French family, we stayed here for one week, which was an amazing trip!
The Chalet Morclan is authentic and modern at the same time. As the owner's family live here it is full of cook books and other things which made us feel at home!
Thank you very much for the warm welcome,

“A lovely chalet and a lovely part of France...”
So peaceful- just the sound of cow bells. We had pizza from the van in Manigod on Sunday and then the "Raclette Baguette"in Annecy Old Town. Had an awesome bike ride all around Lake Annecy on the superb cycle trail. The kids did the high ropes course at the Acro Aventures above Talloires. Also ice skating in La Clusaz and paddle boarding and swimming in Lake Annecy. Wish we could stay much longer - we will be back.
Tia says: I have had an amazing stay here. There is plenty of room around the house, lovely seating areas outside with amazing views, over the mountains. I was very pleased with the trampoline as I love to jump around, and the hot tub was wonderful to go in in the evenings. It was wonderful being 20 minutes away from the resort La Clusaz and the town at the bottom of the mountain Thones, and also being 40 minutes away form the lake, as we had lots of fun swimming. I love this chalet and hope to come again!

“Thanks for the warm welcome!”
A beautiful countryside setting, a very quiet location, ideal for rambling walks. We loved this typical and welcoming chalet with its big terrace which can be enjoyed all day long. Our grand-children enjoyed the trampoline and helping themselves to strawberries and raspberries.
Thank you for the warm welcome.

“With our thanks and best wishes ...”
With our thanks and best wishes to Tim and Karen, and to Celine for welcoming us so warmly and being so kind.
The chalet is really lovely and the setting magnificent. We love the area; there is lots to see and do with children. We particularly enjoyed walking in the mountains, and the children liked to visit the excellent local swimming pools in Thônes and Grand Bornand. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return.
Emily (aged 8) says: I have really enjoyed staying in Chalet Morclan and am sad to leave. I really liked the bedrooms, trampoline and hot tub, which my little sister Katy particularly enjoyed.Hope to come back again,

“We all want to come back one day...”
Dear Karen and Tim,
We have had a wonderful holiday in your comfortable chalet, which is so well set up for your guests. The whole family had chance to regroup and relax here.
We have enjoyed discovering this authentic valley, where working farms and carefully preserved and protected mountain architecture abound. We particularly appreciated the panoramic views from the chalet across the mountains in the Aravis chain and the Manigod valley itself, and how they change in different kinds of weather and at different times throughout the day.
We would all love to return here one day...
Best wishes, the Chambon, Heiss and Heydon families.

“Pure bliss !!!”
Fantastic holidays at Chalet Morclan where well being and serenity are the daily main key words.
Great walks, magnificent landscapes, wonderful weather. Pure bliss!!!
We had an excellent communication with the owners. We want to thank them for the organisation of our stay and for the delicious afternoon snack prepared for our arrival.
Everything was GREAT!!!

“Loved it here!”
Thanks for a wonderful couple of weeks. We had a glorious time. It is simply stunning here and everyday I woke up still in awe of the view. Such a fab part of the world, you've made an excellent choice of where to live!

“Out of this world mountain views ”
We loved staying at Chalet Morclan. It is set in a stunning location with out of this world mountain views over the French Alps. It is spacious, with it's wrap around balcony and garden, along with a hot tub to soak in. We loved being able to read the many books and the children loved watching the dvd's with all the comforts of home. The fittings and furnishings are perfectly aligned with the French chalet vibe. Thanks also again for the food on arrival. Merci beaucoup!
Scarlett (aged 8) says - There is a very beautiful view you can see the cows and sheep. Every morning we can hear cow bells. The wood makes the house look nice. The reading books that you left us were fun to read, and there are many dvd's to watch. We will remember the view and the nice wood. Chalet Morclan makes us happy, thank you for letting us stay.

“Really really good welcome, very kind owners”
We spent a wonderful week at this chalet amongst family and friends. The chalet is really very lovely even given that the wooden floor of the first floor really creaks when walked on! The owners were welcoming and kind. We felt very much at home.

“A breath of fresh air”
Chalet Morclan is a real haven of peace and quiet, a great place to spend a family holiday. The exceptional views encourage you to unwind a little more each day, as does the quality of the air. The chalet is well thought out, easy to live in, and very well equipped. We've had a very successful holiday, would recommend the chalet and hope to return here ourselves. PS. Thanks to Tim and Karen for the snacks provided on our late arrival following our little problem on the road.
Bertrand L. - 14/02/2015
We live in Paris and each year we look to spend our holidays in places with wonderful scenery. Even before we arrived we were captivated by the views from the terrace of Chalet Morclan, excited to know they would soon welcome us. On arrival the reality was even better than our expectations. The views are breathtaking and virtually 360 degree views at that! There are no neighbours and the chalet is perched at the top of a rural track overlooking the Manigod valley, a real treat for the eyes. The children were able to play safely around the chalet without us having to worry about traffic, which was a huge bonus. The owners have thought of everything when setting up this chalet, gave us a warm welcome on arrival, and were in contact during the week to make sure we had everything we needed and helped out with information about things to do and places to visit throughout our stay. Our weeks skiing was just perfect; snow, sun, and evenings around the open fire, we couldn't have wished for more. We ski every year and we hope to return to Chalet Morclan next winter to make more happy shared memories.

“We had an amazing time...”
Morclan was the most perfect Chalet experience I've ever had! Beautiful panoramic views of the snow covered valley & only a short 15 min trip up to my new favourite ski resort of Croix Fry/Merdassier. Perfect skiing and snowboarding for my intermediate level but there were also testing reds & blacks close by at Balme & Grand Bornard for my friends. Wonderful skiing! Whether it was watching one of the 1000's of HD movies relaxing apres ski with a glass of red in the evening by the roaring fire or eating breakfast on the sun drenched terrace while the kids & cat played in what must have been 3 ft of snow below us, we had an amazing time. Will definitely be back!
Richard P. - 10/01/2015
“A real home from home feel”
Chalet Morclan offers spacious accommodation with a real home from home feel, enhanced by the up to date furnishings, comfy sofas and an open fire which add to the mountain chalet experience. The stunning views and quiet location are a bonus and the chalet is a great base for long walks or skiing in the nearby resorts of Manigod and La Clusaz. The local village is quaint and offers all you need with a bakery, corner shop, bar, hairdresser and locally made pottery. We loved our stay in the chalet and will hopefully be back next season...

“What a fabulous holiday!”
From the moment we arrived at Chalet Morclan we knew we’d chosen the right property. Surrounded by lush green fields and the stunning Aravis mountains, the house was a haven of peace and tranquility. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the valley was the perfect way to start the day and the upstairs living room was great when the kids needed their own space. The village has some good restaurants and the market was a great place to pick up local produce. We enjoyed some lovely walks and cycles from the house and Annecy is a must for a day out. Having seen Manigod in the summer we can’t wait to come back in the winter!
Louise E. - 23/08/2014
“An unforgettable holiday”
We spent a fortnight at Chalet Morclan in August. Where shall I begin to describe our holiday? There is so much to say. First of all the chalet itself is welcoming and family friendly with a spacious living area opening up onto a large sunny terrace with a magnificent panoramic view across the Manigod valley to La Tournette. Karen and Tim, the owners, have built their peaceful haven on the crest of a hill; it isn't overlooked, there are no near neighbours, and you can really see the care and attention they have put into their chalet: we felt instantly at home there. The calm is striking, especially if, like us, you live in the city. We so enjoyed basking in the sun like lizards in the middle of the afternoon on the terrace, accompanied only by the sounds of the bells from the sheep in the neighbouring fields. As for the surrounding area, you are only a couple of minutes drive from the charming village of Manigod, in this beautifully preserved working farming valley. You could not be closer to nature. We went on different walks every day. La Clusaz, Grand Bornand, Thones and Annecy are all within easy reach, each place different to the others. In short, we could have spent two months here without tiring of the atmosphere and the scenery.
Anne-Claire M. - 15/08/2014
I have spent many happy summer holidays in this blissful chalet. The location is unbelievable, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery in every direction. It is so idyllic that I've found it difficult to tear myself away, but I have made the effort as there are so many interesting places to visit and activities to take part in in the surrounding areas.
The wonderful old medieval town of Annecy is only half an hour away. It stands on a beautiful lake and is interlaced with picturesque canals, which are edged with a miriad of wonderful restaurants and intriguing shops, all so different to anywhere I've ever been before, and it's all so clean, no litter in site !
The chalet itself has everything one could want for comfort and relaxation, inside and out. I cannot recommend this chalet highly enough. Enjoy !
