Please Note

PLEASE NOTE: In winter a 4x4 vehicle with snow tyres and sometimes snow chains are essential to get to the chalet.

In addition to the necessity of having a 4x4, it is advisable to have snow chains in winter to navigate the rural road uphill.

There is a parking 300m away from the chalet accessible with a 4x4. The road to the parking and the parking itself are cleared by the commune. Please be aware that in periods of heavy snow you may have to access the remaining gravelled 300m path between the parking and the chalet on foot.

In summer the chalet is situated off a public footpath, and only accessible via a gravel track - vehicles with low axel clearance will not be able to use the track.

The property is in a protected environment and the running water is from a cistern with a filtering system. However, it is recommended that guests bring their own bottled water for personal consumption (no problem for showering/brushing teeth, or cooking).

Running water and sanitation

It should be noted that, as Chalet Victorina is an isolated mountain chalet, it is not connected to the municipal water supply and sewage system of the commune of La Giettaz.

An autonomous system of surface and underground water collection supplies the chalet with water, which can be very hard and is not recommended for drinking.

It is advisable to bring bottles of mineral water for the stay. The chalet has its own sewage system.

Location

La Giettaz - Megève

Set in the heart of the Aravis mountains, La Giettaz is a bit of a ‘well kept secret’

Skiers can choose to explore either Les Portes du Mont-Blanc, the domain Evasion Mont-Blanc or even L’Espace Diamant, offering something for all the family.

In the summer there are great mountain bike trails and walking routes, with a wealth of flora and fauna, plus a via ferrata.

Don’t miss stunning views of Mont Blanc and try some of the wonderful restaurants in this authentic mountain getaway.

The OVO Network Review

Chalet Victorina is a six-bedroom, four bathroom chalet for 12, with 232m2 of accommodation over two floors. It's a 5km drive to La Giettaz, but just 1.5km to the lifts at Le Plan, where you'll find the closest restaurant.

The drive to Chalet Victorina is not an easy one, and in the winter you'll need a 4x4 vehicle, with snow tyres, maybe chains, and sometimes you may need to leave the car in a parking 300m away, but it's worth the effort - Chalet Victorina is surrounded by nature and this peaceful location enjoys wonderful views of the mountains and ski slopes - enjoy a drink or a meal on the terrace and enjoy the solitude, and the occasional wild animal visiting your garden!

The interior of this home will take your breath away - recently renovated, the sleek design is straight from the pages of a design magazine. But there's everything you need to ensure you have a great holiday - a fully-equipped kitchen, cosy seating area, stylish bedrooms and bathrooms, a TV and games corner and a useful ski room.

Keen skiers will love being able to ski straight from the chalet via a blue slope, and there are lifts at Le Plan, just 1.5km away.

There's plenty to do here in the summer too, with walking and biking trails passing the chalet, and climbing, summer luge and mountain-biking all nearby, Youngsters can put their bike skills to the test or learn new ones at a free bike park next to the bottom of the Torraz chairlift.

If you're looking for a stylish retreat where you can enjoy and active mountain holiday with friends and family, but without the noise and tumult of modern resorts, we think Chalet Victorina will be hard to beat.

“Our neighbours are the mountains, the forest, the chamois and the marmots”

Le Plan at La Giettaz is just the sort of small family ski station we love. It's nestled at the foot of the Aravis chain, but is linked to the fabulous ski area of the Portes du Mont Blanc (Megeve and Combloux)

The pistes of La Clusaz are less than 20 minutes drive away.

And that's where, in the unspoiled Jaillet valley, you'll find Chalet Victorina. Although I have known the Aravis area and the lively station of La Clusaz for many years, I fell in love with this farmhouse which dates back to 1890 and its wonderful surroundings - our only neighbours are the spectacular Aravis mountains, the Jaillet forest, the mountain stream and the chamois and marmots.

The chalet, which used to belong to an old lady called Victorine, had, like many old farms, become derelict and was in danger of collapsing. Today it is a superb example of preservation and mountain heritage, following a superb renovation by local craftsmen.

All the main elements of woodwork and stone have been preserved and enhanced, and modern comfort combines with concern for the environment, such as the capture and filtering of water.

The chalet is right on the edge of the Jaillet ski slope, and in the summer, the hiking trails pass by the door. Just put on your backpack and head for the summit of Jaillet or Croisse Baulet! Summer or winter, I am sure that you will be just as enchanted by your stay at Chalet Victorina.

Valerie.
