This summer’s essential cycling events in the Alps

Every summer, from winding roads to forest trails, the Alps come alive with cycling! Between legendary mountain passes and technical descents, here are 10 cycling events you won’t want to miss during your stay in the mountains this year. 

Whether you’re a racer, mountain biker or simply a spectator, get ready to experience the adrenaline rush of cycling, combining sport, nature and thrills.

Tour de France 2025

Dates: 24 – 25 July
Towns: Vif – Albertville – La Plagne

The most popular cycling event of the year will feature two Alpine stages in 2025. Stage 18 will link Vif to the Col de la Loze, covering a distance of 171km and a total elevation gain of 5,450 metres. Stage 19 will start in Albertville and finish at high altitude in La Plagne, after a 130km race. 

Climbers and sprinters will battle it out on legendary mountain passes such as Glandon, Madeleine, Roselend and La Plagne. As every year, the atmosphere on the roadside will be electric: free access, cheering crowds and guaranteed excitement!

Tour de France Femmes 2025

Dates: 1 – 3 August
Towns: Chambéry – Praz‑sur‑Arly – Châtel

Come and cheer on the women cyclists as they race through the Alps! Excitement is guaranteed, with battles on spectacular mountain passes and a festive atmosphere in the mountain pastures and Savoyard villages.

The final three stages promise some thrilling moments: from Bourg-en-Bresse to Chambéry over 160km, from Chambéry to the Col de la Madeleine with a 3,600m climb, then the grand finale linking Praz-sur-Arly to Châtel, featuring the legendary climb up the Col de Joux-Plane.

Pass’Portes du Soleil MTB

Dates: 27 – 29 June
Towns: 12 resorts in the Portes du Soleil

Enjoy 80km of pure mountain biking pleasure between France and Switzerland, with 6,000m of descent and 13 ski lifts to help you reach the summits. Open to mountain bikers aged 14 and over, this panoramic route will take you through 12 resorts. 

Departures between 7:30 and 10am, from a choice of eight locations. Registration costs €77, with or without a gift pack. Local delicacies, a friendly atmosphere and tasty refreshment stops await you along the way!

Coupe du Monde Enduro 2025

Dates: 21 – 24 August
Towns:
Morillon – La Rivière-Enverse – Samoëns

Get ready to experience the excitement of the UCI Enduro World Cup! The best riders will compete in timed special stages, featuring technical descents and challenging climbs. The race will start at the top of the Bike Park. 

For amateurs, registration (€130) is open to those aged 17 and over. However entry to the event village is free, and offers spectators entertainment, exhibitors and an electric atmosphere throughout the weekend.

Grimpée du Semnoz

Date: 23 August, 2025
Town:
Saint-Jorioz

Want to test your limits? Take on the Grimpée du Semnoz, a steep 13.5km climb with an elevation gain of 1,200m. From the Col de Leschaux, the slope averages 6%, with some sections exceeding 9%. 

Open to all cyclists aged 17 and over, this timed event is ideal for climbers looking for a challenge. A sporting atmosphere and spectacular scenery are guaranteed! Register online from €20.

Haute Route des Alpes

Dates: 24 – 30 August
Towns: Megève to Nice

Take on the greatest Alpine passes over seven intense and unforgettable days, from Megève to Nice! The Haute Route des Alpes covers nearly 800km and more than 20,000m of elevation gain, featuring legendary passes, time trials and high-altitude finishes. 

The event, which is open to participants aged 18 and over, combines performance, professional coaching and top-of-the-range hospitality. Registration fees guarantee professional services: refreshments, massages, mechanical support, timekeeping, personalised race numbers and more.

Megavalanche 2025

Dates: 4 – 6 July
Town:
Alpe d’Huez

Imagine starting at an altitude of 3,300 metres on a glacier, followed by a 2,600-metre descent to the finish line, in a wild ride covering more than 25 kilometres. The Megavalanche certainly lives up to its name! Spectacular action is guaranteed for both participants and the spectators who line the course.

This is an iconic mass-start race, open to cyclists aged 17 and over. Online registration is essential as places are limited. Get your gear, your stamina and your courage ready… You’re going to need them!

MB Race Megève

Dates: 4 – 6 July
Towns:
Megève and Combloux

Calling all intrepid mountain bikers who aren’t afraid of a challenge! The MB Race in Megève is considered the toughest mountain bike race in the world. Choose your distance: 70, 100 or 140km with up to 7,000m of elevation gain! 

Starting at dawn, with picturesque landscapes and an electric atmosphere, the event also offers races for young people and an E-Bike version. Registration fees apply for participants aged 17 and over, depending on the route chosen. It’s the perfect event to push your limits to the max in the heart of the Mont-Blanc massif!

Transmaurienne vanoise

Dates: 13 – 19 July
Towns: Aussois – Val-Cenis

The magnificent Transmaurienne Vanoise, open to participants aged 19 and over, offers five days of mountain biking between lakes, forests and peaks, with marathon, hiking, e-bike, children’s and gravel routes to choose from. 

The main event features no less than 9,000 metres of elevation gain over five stages. Each day, a race village welcomes riders and their supporters. Paid registration includes timing, assistance, refreshments and entertainment. A sporting and social adventure not to be missed!
