Mountain fishing: the Doron de Chavière stretch

A popular spot for Alpine river fishing

Flowing from the heart of the Vanoise National Park down to the centre of Pralognan, the high-altitude Doron de Chavière stream offers clear, fresh and well-oxygenated waters that are perfect for anglers looking for an authentic experience.

Its course alternates between calm areas, such as the Prioux Plateau at 1,725 m, and faster currents, allowing for a variety of fishing techniques. Surrounded by peaks and alpine meadows, the setting makes for an experience that is as contemplative as it is active.

Which fish can you find?

The Doron de Chavière is home mainly to brown trout (truite fario), a classic mountain river species prized for its liveliness. You’ll also encounter rainbow trout and brook trout, which have been introduced specifically for fishing.

Due to cold winter temperatures and limited food, these fish rarely grow longer than 35cm, but anglers of all levels enjoy their spirited fight.

Regulations and advice for responsible fishing

To practise responsible fishing in this protected area, it is important to follow a few essential rules:

  • Have a valid fishing licence and respect the designated open seasons;
  • Use only artificial lures, natural bait is prohibited;
  • Hooks must be barbless;
  • Release all fish alive immediately;
  • Respect the environment and wildlife by avoiding pollution and staying discreet;
