Chalet Nevala ...
Situated in the small hamlet of Le Villard in Saint-André, in the Maurienne valley, this pretty semi-detached stone house was once a barn. It has now been tastefully restored to provide holiday accommodation for up to 11 people.
Its rustic exterior is deceptive, because the interior is contemporary in style and its beauty will surprise you. A huge living room, a raised kitchen and dining area, spacious bedrooms, elegant bathrooms and the icing on the cake - a sublime indoor swimming pool and wellness area. The decor of Chalet Nevala is also full of character - a subtle blend of original architectural elements, design, modern facilities and unique pieces of antique woodwork.
Chalet Nevala is 10 km from the resort of Orelle, from where you can access Val Thorens and Les 3 Vallées via a state-of-the-art cable car. The rest of the year, you're in a peaceful little paradise for hikers, cyclists and nature lovers. You'll love the charming hamlets of Orelle and Saint André.
There are plenty of shops and restaurants in Fourneaux and Modane (6 km away).
While you're here, why not visit Italy? Drive through the Fréjus tunnel, or take the train from Modane and you'll be in Turin in just over an hour.
You'll need a car to get around when you stay at Chalet Nevala, but that's a small price to pay for such a unique property in a special location.
About the property ...
The accommodation at Chalet Nevala is set over three levels. It has four bedrooms and three bathrooms and sleeps a maximum of 11 people.
You'll enter the house via a hall with a sumptuously carved door from Nepal. This leads you to three bedrooms: one for two people with a king-size bed, dressing area and shower room with a walk-in shower; another with a king-size bed and mezzanine bed for one person; and finally another bedroom with two sets of bunk beds, ideal for children. This level also includes a bathroom with a walk-in shower and bath, separate toilet and laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
Take the staircase up to the first floor, where you'll find the large living room arranged around a central, suspended fireplace. The comfortable lounge is furnished with a soft sofa in warm tones. Exposed stone and beams add to the cosy atmosphere. The French window opens onto a small balcony where you can soak up the sunshine while admiring the unobstructed view.
A few steps lead up from the living room to the kitchen, which is modern and uncluttered, but very well equipped. The kitchen is completed by a central island in Carrara marble, perfect for breakfast. A large American fridge-freezer, a wine store, a Nespresso machine and a host of other utensils and equipment will enable you to prepare delicious meals. Eleven people can be seated at the large table, so you can enjoy every meal together.
Another bedroom is located on this level. This is the master suite, furnished with a king-size bed, dressing area and en suite shower room with double shower and WC.
Retrace your steps and take the staircase down to the magnificent wellness area on the garden level. Here you'll find a sauna, a double walk-in shower and a small kitchenette with a sink and fridge. Then discover the heated indoor swimming pool (4 m x 7 m), with its sunbeds and armchairs for a moment of precious relaxation as you admire the view through the arched windows. The doors open onto a small terrace and garden, which is a very pleasant place to dine in fine weather.
You can park a car in the garage and other parking spaces are available nearby (30 metres).
About the area ...
Chalet Nevala is just 15 minutes from the Orelle cable car, which gives you quick access to the vast Val Thorens and 3 Vallées ski area. Parking spaces and ski lockers are available, so you don't have to carry your equipment all the way back to Chalet Nevala. The gondola takes you directly to Plan Bouchet, where you can transfer to the new Cime Caron section, taking you to an altitude of 3,200m. From there, thrill-seekers can take the Tyrolean zipwire, one of the longest in Europe. Lessons can be arranged through the ESF ski school in Orelle.
Once the snow has melted and the skiers have left the resorts, the beautiful Maurienne valley is full of activities and sites to discover, whether in spring, summer or autumn. As soon as you leave the chalet, you're in the Parc de la Vanoise, where a multitude of hiking and cycling trails criss-cross the mountains. Experienced cyclists will find themselves surrounded by some of the most famous passes in the Alps, including the Galibier and the Télégraphe. The Orelle/3Vallées cable car is open on certain days in summer to take you up to the peaks. Other leisure activities include canyoning, via ferrata, the Parcobranche du Diable and its Tyrolean zipwire.
Being so close to the Italian border gives you the perfect opportunity to enjoy a taste of la dolce vita - Turin is just an hour from Chalet Nevala or you could even visit the Italian lakes.
If you would like more information about the activities on offer in the region, the property manager will be able to help you prepare your stay at Chalet Nevala.

The OVO Network Review
Chalet Nevala is a beautifully converted stone barn in the tiny hamlet of St André, just 10km from the mountain resort of Orelle. The accommodation is set over three floors with four bedrooms and three bathrooms for up to 11 guests, and a fabulous spa area with a sauna and indoor swimming pool.
Three of the bedrooms are on the ground floor - a double bedroom with a dressing area and an en suite shower room, another double with a single bunk over the bed and a room with two sets of bunk beds, these rooms share a bathroom. The fourth bedroom is the master suite on the top floor, which also has a dressing room and an en suite bathroom.
The open plan living area is also on the top floor - it has a cosy seating area, a funky suspended fireplace and steps to the well-equipped kitchen and dining area. Due to its split-level layout and the steps, this accommodation is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
Young children will also need to be supervised carefully, especially in the pool area.
The owners of this unique property spend years carefully renovating the old barn, and the result is this incredible property, which combines the original architectural features with modern decor and treasures from Nepal, for a home that is unique, comfortable and very special. Light wells and spotlights have been used to make sure the spacious rooms are well lit, and quality soft furnishings and bed linen have been chosen to make sure you feel right at home.
You'll need a car during your stay at Chalet Nevala, and although there is only one parking space at the house (in the garage), there are plenty more around the nearby church.
If you want to be in the heart of the action, in a place where you can party the night away, Chalet Nevala is not for you. If, on the other hand, you want great skiing, walking and biking, in a peaceful location surrounded by nature, it will tick all your boxes.

From the owner

Nathalie & Luc
After living in New York for five years, we decided we wanted to settle in France.
We chose to return to our roots in Savoie, where our four children could get to know the family land and the mountains in all their glory.
Nathalie set up her decorating shop in the heart of Annecy, while Luc developed his business using the region's many train stations and airports.
During a trip to the Maurienne, we fell in love with a hamlet at the gateway to the Parc de la Vanoise. It had just snowed, and the houses were covered in an perfect white blanket.
There was no one around, and it seemed as if we and our four toddlers were completely alone in the world. On the way back, Luc realised that this was the village where his father was born. It was the place for us.
We began our search for the perfect property, without getting our hopes up. A month later, on a Sunday afternoon, someone called to tell us that he was selling an old, derelict barn in the middle of the hamlet. We said yes without even looking at it!
The whole place had to be renovated and redesigned. We immediately saw its enormous potential and how it could work for our large family and friends.
As the work progressed, the family project evolved into a seasonal rental project. We wanted other mountain lovers to be able to share this magical and unique place in this small hamlet that we fell in love with.
The result was this very unusual place with huge spaces, using only old materials. The old stables became home to a large indoor swimming pool. A very old door and a column from Nepal give a very "global mountain" touch to our large village house.
It's a magical place, all year round.
In winter, the new Orelle cable car, just 10 minutes away by car, provides quick access to Val Thorens and the 3 Valleys. In the evenings, the swimming pool and sauna are the perfect place to relax and unwind, ending the day with a nice dinner by the fireplace.
In summer, you can walk or cycle in the Parc de la Vanoise directly from the hamlet. Italy and Turin are less than an hour away via the Fréjus tunnel.
You can even spend a day in the Italian lakes.
In spring and autumn, you can recharge your batteries in the heart of nature with some magnificent walks.
And last but not least, it's very easy to get to. The motorway takes you to the hamlet in 10 minutes..
and the TGV station is less than 15 minutes away.

“A really nice stay!”
We really enjoyed the pool and sauna.
Even though we didn't use the heating racks for our ski shoes, it was still nice to put our gloves on them to warm them up.
We couldn't have wished for anything better.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
“Magnificient stay in a splendid and peaceful Chalet”
Outstanding decoration and equipment.
A special mention for the swimming pool... a delight for the children!
After a day's skiing in Orelle, it's so good to be back with the family in an exceptional chalet.
