A ski holiday in Les Portes du Soleil offers more than just slopes. Rock On Snow Tour
12-14 December
Avoriaz

Avoriaz kicks off the ski season with a huge test centre for skis, snowboards and accessories. More than 80 brands will be on hand to demonstrate their wares free of charge. So if you’re planning to buy equipment to take to the slopes this winter, this is the place to be.

Spartan Morzine Winter Trail
14 December
Morzine

The famous Spartan Trail obstacle race is coming to Morzine again this year. There are two routes, of 10 and 21km, which cross the slopes and the village. Whether you decide to take part in the race or just watch it, you’re in for a treat.

Christmas market
20–21 December
Châtel

The Christmas market takes over the church square with craft stalls and food stands, as well as decorations and handmade gifts. The market takes place from 10am to 8pm on both days, with a magical atmosphere, musical entertainment and an ice rink. 

Father Christmas lives in Les Gets
20-26 December
Les Gets

Venture into the heart of the enchanted forest to meet Father Christmas and his adorable elves. Tickets for the event go on sale on 1 December.

Cocktail de Zic brass band
21 December
Morzine

A lively street band will entertain in the centre of Morzine between 4pm and 6pm. Admission is free and the musical atmosphere will bring families and brass band enthusiasts together in a warm and welcoming setting.

The Enchanted Village
21 December – 2 January
Morzine

Enjoy two magical weeks of shows, lights and entertainment at the Enchanted Village in Morzine this year. All the activities are free, from Santa’s visit to children’s workshops and parades. This event is sure to put a sparkle in your holiday.

Carpentry workshop – Children of the forest
23 December
Morzine

Children are invited to become apprentice carpenters and use simple techniques such as drilling and cutting to make a small wooden figurine. The activity, which starts at 2pm in the Tourist Office square, is free and children can take their creations home with them.

Family treasure hunt
23 December
Châtel

An adventure for the whole family awaits on this treasure hunt around Lake Vonnes, with puzzles for everyone to solve. The activity is ideal for children and parents who want to explore the village in an interactive and entertaining way.

Snowshoe walk at sunset

Les Gets

This sunset snowshoe hike leaves from the “La Colombière” multipurpose hall from 2-5pm, with equipment rental included (poles and snowshoes). Walkers will enjoy the last rays of the sun and spectacular alpine scenery around the summit of Roc d’Enfer. The cost is €42 per person, and booking is essential.

Afternoon tea LED Show
23 December
Les Gets

The LED show with afternoon tea will be held at La Colombière, with food at 4:45pm followed by the light show at around 5.30pm. The free performance by the Firelight company will combine LED effects, colours and pictures to delight all ages.

Christmas fun
24 December
Les Gets

There’s Christmas fun for the whole family on the snow front from 5-7pm. Hot drinks will be served and Santa Claus will parade through the town centre at 5.30pm. ESF instructors will make a torchlight descent, followed by fireworks. Come and enjoy a wonderful family day.

Christmas in Avoriaz
24 December
Avoriaz

Come and watch Father Christmas arrive with a sound and light show, along with a splendid fireworks display! With the children’s help, the show aims to help adults rekindle the magic of this unique holiday. Father Christmas will be handing out presents and sweets in an illuminated grotto.

Châtel

On his long journey from Lapland, Father Christmas stops off in his horse-drawn carriage in the Alps. Helped by the little elves from the ESF, he will be handing out sweets to all the children of Châtel. His visit will culminate with fireworks and a mass in St Laurent church.

Opening of the slopes with a ski patroller
24 December – 25 March, every Wednesday
Morzine

This fun begins on the Pléney snow front at 8:15am, when participants will join a ski patroller on his inspection round before the official opening of the slopes. Breakfast will be provided by the Tourist Office. Participation for intermediate skiers costs €3 and online booking is essential.

Tornado: Visual parade with a circus theme
25 December
Morzine

The Tornade parade begins outside the Tourist Office at 5:15pm, when actors, jugglers, stilt walkers and dancers will put on a magical and acrobatic show. This free outdoor event promises an enchanting evening for guests of all ages.

Local cheese tasting workshop
26 December and 2 January
Châtel

Come and taste eight iconic Alpine cheeses (such as AOP Abondance, Beaufort, Reblochon, etc.) at the Salle la Châtelaine from 3:30pm to 5pm. The event, led by a local host who will introduce the products and provide recipe ideas, is free and open to all (children must be accompanied).

Unlimited Folie
26 December – 26 March (every Thursday)
Avoriaz

Get ready for some wild après-ski fun! Every Thursday from 3pm to 6pm, La Folie Douce bar in Avoriaz will be rocking to the sounds of renowned DJs in a spectacular mountain setting. Tickets will be available on site at a flat rate of €10.

Frozen treasure hunt
26 December
Morzine

Children can learn the basics of ice carving at this fun, free workshop. Armed with an ice pick, they’ll have to find a gold coin hidden in a block of ice. The workshop takes place between 4:30pm and 6pm in the Tourist Office square.

New Year’s Eve
31 December

Welcome the New Year in style with a fireworks show that will echo across the skies of Les Gets. See the Tourist Office website for full details.

New Year’s Eve party

The New Year’s Eve celebrations begin outside the tourist office at 6:30pm with a fire show combining flames, juggling and pyrotechnics. There’s a live concert from 9-11pm, with a DJ session until 1am, to prolong the fun and bring in the new year. Admission will be free and all are welcome.

The whole resort of Châtel celebrates the end of the year with music and lights. From 7pm to 9pm, there will be concerts, free hot chocolate and mulled wine, and a fireworks display that will light up the mountains.

Avoriaz celebrates the arrival of the New Year with joy and good humour, featuring no less than three DJs, fireworks and a festive evening that promises to last until the wee small hours!

Laser biathlon
31 December
Morzine

Morzine Tourist Office is organising a free biathlon workshop to introduce you to this little-known Olympic event. Armed with a safe laser rifle, you can work on your endurance and concentration over the course of a fun afternoon.


January

Fanfare Express
1 January
Châtel

The crazy musicians of “Fanfare Express” perform the most popular songs of the moment with brass instruments that will have the mountains vibrating. Don’t be afraid to get your groove on – that’s what they’re here for!

Frozen treasure hunt
2 January
Morzine

La Grande Odyssée
The Grand Odyssey
10–11 January
Avoriaz

One of the world’s largest dog sled races, the Grand Odyssey will bring Avoriaz to life with a presentation at the playground in the heart of the resort. The event village will be open from 10am to 7pm on Saturday and from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, with entertainment, musher meet-and-greets, tastings and family activities. 

Ladies Tour
13 January
Morzine

The Ladies Tour has a day dedicated to France’s best female skiers, who will compete in a parallel slalom event. Come and cheer on the participants in an atmosphere that is both sporty and friendly.

Les Gets winter trail
17 January
Les Gets

The Les Gets Winter Trail features several routes through the snow between 8:30am and 8pm, rewarding athletic endeavour with stunning Alpine landscapes. There are 10km and 20km events for adults. Registration includes a drink at the finish line, a post-race meal and a gift for each participant.

Les Gets Comédie
29 January – 4 February
Les Gets

Start the New Year with a good laugh at this evening featuring French and English comedians. Check out the list of participants and the full programme on their official website.

February

Burton Mystery Series
1-2 February
Avoriaz

Snowboarders of all ages are invited to take part in this free, fun and friendly competition, which will be held on the slopes as well as in the heart of the resort, in the snowy streets of Avoriaz.

UCI Snow Bike World Championships
7 February
Châtel

In its second year, this sporting championship features two events on snow, directly inspired by alpine skiing: super-G and dual slalom. Come and cheer on the participants in this unique competition.

Carnival
7 February – 8 March
Avoriaz

Every Thursday, colourful floats parade through the centre of the village to celebrate the carnival, one of the children’s favourite holidays. There will also be workshops, treasure hunts, sledge races and lots of other surprises!

Red Ski Show
9, 16 & 23 February
Les Gets

The ski instructors from Les Gets ESF invite you to a mountain show that will take your breath away. The programme includes torch-lit descents, ski shows, grooming and rescue demonstrations and fireworks, all duly accompanied by mulled wine and hot chocolate.

Farmers’ Festival
10 February
Châtel

Join local farmers in the church square for their annual celebration and the competition for the best Abondance cheese. There are wooden games for the children, as well as farm animals and cheese-making. There will also be traditional music and a procession from Linga at 7pm.

Charity torchlight descent
11, 18 & 25 February
Les Gets

This torchlight descent gives you the chance to do a good deed while taking part in a fabulous night-time show. Each torch costs €7, with all proceeds going to charity. See you at 6:15pm at the top of the Boule de Gomme piste! Note that you’ll need a second star to take part.

Introduction to speed skiing
12 February – 5 March
Morzine

Every Thursday from 10am to 4pm, ski instructors will teach new skiing techniques and raise awareness about speed and helmet use. Participation is free, no booking required, but skiers need to be at intermediate level.

Evening around the lake
12 February
Châtel

Slow down and enjoy a peaceful walk around Lake Vonnes, equipped with a lantern. For €5, you can enjoy inspiring stories which will teach you more about the Alps, followed by a hot drink in a chalet.

Blessing of the Skiers
17 February
Châtel

Join us at the Plaine Dranse chapel in the early evening for the skiers’ blessing. This unique event will be followed by a torchlit descent accompanied by traditional music, mulled wine, and hot apple juice.

Héro Touch
20 February
Les Gets

This activity will give children of all ages the chance to play their favourite superhero during a laser tag session without guns. This free activity will take place at the snow front between 4pm and 6pm.

Metro City Jam
21 février
Avoriaz

Metro City Jam invites boarders and snow sports enthusiasts to a unique jam session in the heart of the resort, with modules designed just for the occasion. Shows and demonstrations will happen throughout the day, and are open to everyone.

Who wants to win Reblochons?
24 February
Les Gets

During this quirky version of the famous television game show, guests have to answer questions to try to win some Reblochon, the region’s famous cheese. The atmosphere promises to be electric between 3pm and 6pm in the Place de la Maison des Gets.

Carnival
24 February
Châtel

Come and admire the fancy dress carnival parade starting at 2pm for a festive après-ski experience.


March

Red Ski Show

Snowboxx is a unique mix of a music festival, a carnival, and ski competitions, set on the snow in Avoriaz. Renowned freeriders and DJs will take over different spots in the resort for an exciting week. Visit the official site for the lineup.

Rock the Pistes
15-21 March
Portes du Soleil Ski Resorts

This pop/rock music festival takes place every year on the slopes of various resorts in the Portes du Soleil area. With over 30 concerts announced, get ready to groove – these beats will shake the snow!

Premier ski festival
21–28 March
Les Gets

The Premier Ski Festival invites adult beginners to enjoy a week of skiing and snowboarding instruction in a friendly atmosphere. The sessions will be led by ESF instructors, followed by group activities in the afternoon and musical evenings.

Concert: Les Négresses Vertes
28 March
Morzine

Les Négresses Vertes will get Morzine dancing with all their greatest hits on stage at the Palais des Sports et des Congrès at 9 pm. Admission is €29 for adults and €10 for 12–21 year olds.

Freeride World Tour Qualifier and Junior 2*
28–29 mars
Avoriaz

Experienced freeriders and young talents will come together to try out technical routes around Avoriaz. Get ready for two days of spectacular descents for enthusiasts, who will be able to watch from the secure zones of the ski area.

Volcom Spot to Spot
28–29 March
Avoriaz

The sixth edition of Volcom Spot to Spot will be held in Avoriaz from 8:30am to 5pm on both days. There will be snowboarding challenges for all levels, including categories for under-15s. A barbecue, refreshments and music will keep the party going.


April

The Common Line
4–5 April
Avoriaz

The Common Line celebrates snowboarding through an artistic and community-based approach. There will be no competition or podium, just sharing experiences and passion. The weekend will include a round-table discussion on snowboard culture, an art exhibition and group sessions.

Portes du Soleil Champions Ski Race
5 April
Morzine-Avoriaz

This race marks the end of the ski season in the Portes du Soleil area, with more than 600 children competing for the title. It will be followed by a parade in the streets of Morzine.
