What’s on - Summer 2019

There’s so much going on in Annecy and the Alps over the summer months including carnivals, fireworks, film festivals and more. Take a look at just some of the fabulous events you can look forward to this summer…

Summer or winter, these events take place throughout the year.

La Clusaz Market

Every Monday 8am - noon

La Clusaz’s weekly market is a wonderful place to explore whether you’re visiting in winter or summer. Fresh produce, local handicrafts, clothing, cheeses, jewellery and more are all available, plus a fabulous atmosphere.


Le Grand Bornand Market

Every Wednesday 8am - 12:30

Taking place throughout the year, don’t miss a visit to the market in Le Grand Bornand. With local crafts, cheeses, meats, fruit and vegetables, clothes and more on sale, it’s a great place to explore.




 Annecy Old Town Market

Tuesday, Friday & Sunday 7am - 1pm

Immerse yourself in the colour, scents and sounds of a traditional French market in Annecy’s historic old town. Find everything from cheese, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables to clothing, kitchen gadgets and street food. Friday’s market also has flowers.



Annecy Crafts, Arts & Flea Markets

Last Saturday of each month

The various craft, art and flea markets are fabulous to explore. From hand-made jewellery, clothing and furniture, to bric-a-brac, antiques and paintings, there’s plenty to choose from to take home!

Snack at the Corbassieres Farmhouse - La Clusaz

Every day from 4 June to 30 September

Enjoy panoramic views over the Aravis mountains and taste farmhouse produce - you can walk or drive up the Patton road next to the Beauregard gondola.

12 € adult / 8 € children under 10


Visit Lorette’s Farm - Plateau de Beauregard

Every day

Find out all about life on an Alpine farm, tour the house and stay as long as you like. The cows are in the fields all day and come back at 3pm for milking.

Gourmet walk - Le Grand Bornand

Tuesdays, 9 July to 20 August, 10.15am to 11.45am

Discover Le Grand Bornand on foot with an expert guide, followed by a tasting of local products at the Maison du Patrimoine, offered by shopkeepers and farmers of Le Grand Bornand. Adults 5.50€, children (6-12) 3.30€. Book at the tourist office by 4.30pm on the day before your visit.


Gourmet walk in old Chinaillon

Thursdays, 11 July to 22 August, 10.15 to 11.45am

Discover the old village of Chinaillon with a heritage guide, followed by a tasting of local produce. See ancient chalets, the historic chapel and traditional wood-shingled roofs and learn about the village’s farming heritage and the birth of skiing in the area. The tour starts in front of the tourist office - book with the office the day before. Adults 6€, children (6-12) 3.50€, free for children under six.


Discover summer biathlon - Le Grand Bornand

Wednesdays and Thursdays, 1 July to 31 August

Bring the whole family and discover biathlon shooting with air rifles at the Auberge Nordique holiday village. It’s a great way to increase concentration and relieve stress! €15 per person.




30 March - 4 May - Petit Patapon

Cran-Gevrier, Annecy

With shows, stories, games, books, workshops and more this is a fun event for all the family.

Saturdays - Migrate up the mountain!

Le Grand Bornand

Join the Alpine farmers as they move their Abondance cattle and goats up into the summer pastures and learn about life on the farm. Exact 2019 dates not available as yet - please check the website for prices and details.



11-12 May - Medievals d’Alby

Alby sur Cheran

A weekend of medieval fun in the town of Alby sur Cheran near Annecy. Watch re-enactments of battles, with knights on horseback challenging each other to duels, and discover what it was like to live in medieval times. Entry is 6€ for one day or 10€ for two days, free for children up to 10 years old.

24-26 May - Salomon Gore-Tex Maxi Race

Annecy le Vieux

With over 5,000 runners from over 40 countries taking part, the Maxi-Race goes around Lake Annecy - via the mountains that surround it! There are eight routes, giving athletes of all levels the chance to participate in this celebration of trail running



18 May - Accordion all night long

Le Grand Bornand

A dinner dance with accordion music in Espace Grand Bo, organised by the Accordeonistes du Val de Thones. Tickets for the event, which starts at 8pm, are 26€.




25-26 May - Talloires Book Festival


This welcoming literary gathering sees renowned authors and journalists take part in a range of events including book signings, discussions and radio broadcasts. With a children’s literature bookshop and literary cafes, there’s plenty to choose from.

1 June - The Gypaete trail run

Le Grand Bornand - Chinaillon

There are five courses for this event, with two of the starting points in Chinaillon. These courses range from 14km to 74km, with entry ranging from €21 to €70. There's even a circuit for pairs to compete (La Circaète binôme). Of course it’s free to watch!

10-15 June - Annecy International Animation Film Festival


The Annecy International Animation Film Festival was created in 1960 and became an annual event in 1988. See the latest award-winning animated films, discover the next trends and meet directors and new talents. Films from more than 88 countries are screened at a number of theatres around the town, and this year it will host the world premiere screening of the new Playmobil:The Movie!



14-16 June - Alpes Bike Festival

La Clusaz

A huge mountain biking competition in a spectacular setting, the Alps Bike Festival is the new name for Roc des Alpes, a fun event whether you’re participating or spectating. With shows, music, children’s activities, summer luge and much more, this is a great event for all the family.


23-29 June - Back to Grand Bo paragliding competition

Le Grand Bornand 

Amateur pilots join the best pilots in the world in this unique competition to see who can cover the greatest distance. Paragliders take off from the summit of Mont Lachat and try to fly as far as possible - all they have to do is take off and land in Le Grand Bornand and track their flight by GPS. Free to watch.


30 June - Cyclosportive

Le Grand Bornand

This cycle race organised by the Velo Club is a stage of the Challenge Haute Savoie.   Choose from one of the three itineraries: 70, 97 or 110km with an uphill climb of 1500, 3000 or 3400m.Starting from and finishing at la place de l’église in Le Grand Bornand, registration fee is 50 Euros, increasing to 60 Euros from 9 June.


29 June - The night of churches

Eglise Notre Dame, Place de l’Eglise, Le Grand Bornand

Explore the church from 8-9:30pm with a heritage guide, hear organ demonstrations and find out how the organ works. Free visit.




5 July to 30 August every Tuesday and Friday - Discover Reblochon Cheese making

Le Grand Bornand 

Discover farm life, taste Reblochon cheese and see it made. Adults 5.50€, children (6-12 years) 3€, Free for children under 6. Book at the tourist office the day before the 10.30am visit.

10 July - Accordian concert

Eglise Notre Dame de l'Assomption, Le Grand Bornand

11-14 July - Musillac


It’s a bit further to go for this one, but it’s only an hour from Annecy and it’s worth the journey! This year there are four days of music, with headliners including Thirty Seconds To Mars, Christine and the Queens, Garbage, George Ezra, Morcheeba and more. Tickets range from 59€ for a one-day pass to €204 for a four-day pass with camping.

13 July - Firemen’s Ball

La Clusaz, Champ Giguet

This traditional event takes place every year on the eve of the national holiday and is free to residents and holiday guests. The parade starts at the Champ Giguet at 8pm and at 8.30pm the firefighters march from the town back to the field. There is live music, with a firework finale, before the evening finishes at 10pm.


13 July - National Day celebration

Le Chinaillon, Le Grand Bornand

An evening of entertainment, concerts, fireworks and dancing to celebrate the national day of France. The fun starts at 4pm and ends with fireworks at 11pm. The event is free so come along!



14 July - Mountain Festival

Le Grand Bornand

Enjoy a Savoyard meal in the village square and a light show on the mountains. This annual event is organised by the Mountain Rescue Team and the Local Guide company. The entertainment is free and includes a mountain rescue demonstration, music and dancing



16 to 27 July - Musique a Beauregard

Plateau de Beauregard, La Clusaz/Manigod

The third edition of this festival puts music in the heart of the mountains - with concerts, workshops, activities and more.

19 to 21 July - Satiam Yoga Festival

La Clusaz

Beginners can discover yoga in a mountain setting and enthusiasts can extend their knowledge at this festival, led by Katie Misson.

21 July - Fête Champetre de Lormay

Bouchet valley - buses from Le Grand Bornand

Old traditions, trades and handcrafts are revisited at this country fair. Toss hay bales, find out how Reblochon is made, enjoy a delicious Savoyarde meal and dance the night away. Entertainment is free, the meal costs 15€ for adults and 10-13€ for a child.



28 July - Garage sale

Chinaillon, Le Grand Bornand

Pick up a bargain at this day-long market in Chinaillon.



3 August - Fete du Lac


This spectacular firework festival will once again light up the town and its lake - over an hour of non-stop displays over the Bay of Albigny regularly attract more than 200,000 spectators, so be sure to get there in good time - the firework display starts at 9.30PM


4 August - Fete de l’Alpage

Chinaillon, Le Grand Bornand 

A whole day of entertainment, including an ox-drawn wagon parade, a milking competition, a country-style meal and fireworks. Free buses run all day, until 10.40pm.The fun takes place at the bottom of the Les Gettiers chairlift.


11 August - Reblochon festival

La Clusaz

A festival celebrating the history of local farming and the production of Reblochon. See how the cheese is made in the afternoon, and enjoy folk dancing, bread-making and a grand parade through the village. Free.


15 August - 22nd cycling climb up "Le Bouquetin" 

Le Grand Bornand/Col de la Colombiere

This timed climb of the Col de la Colombiere starts at 9am (registration from 7:30am). Organised by the Velo Club, it is open to anyone aged 16 and over. Entry is 13€ for cyclists but it’s free for spectators.


15 August - Festival of 15 August

Le Grand Bornand

The fun starts at 10:30am and lasts all day, at 4pm you can grab a bite of the giant tartiflette - a Savoyard delicacy of potatoes, bacon and Reblochon cheese. Music and dancing follow, as well as a raffle. Entertainment is free but the meal should be booked at the tourist office. It costs 13€ for adults and 8€ for children under 10.


25 to 30 August - Au Bonheur des Momes

Le Grand Bornand

This children’s festival is the highlight of the summer for families - six days of entertainment including music, dance, workshops, games and puppet shows. An access bracelet costs 5€ for a day or 20€ for a week. Shows at La Grenette are free but charges vary for workshops and indoor shows, for which it is advisable to book. The programme is available on the website.

23 to 25 August - Le Belier trail race

La Clusaz

One of the oldest trail races in Haute Savoie, three days of events have been arranged for the 34th edition, which is open to runners, walkers, beginners and experts. Try out trail, hiking and Nordic walking products in the test village which has 2km and 5km circuits.

28 September - Foire de la Saint Maurice


A wonderful fair, with stalls, entertainments, local specialities, and the famed cows! Makes for a great day out for all the family. Full details confirmed closer to the event.
