What’s on - Summer 2018

There’s so much going on in Annecy and the Alps over the summer months. Sporting events - including the famed Tour de France, carnivals, fireworks, film festivals and more. Take a look at just some of the fabulous events you can look forward to this summer…

La Clusaz Market

Every Monday 8am - noon

La Clusaz’s weekly market is a wonderful place to explore whether you’re visiting in winter or summer. Fresh produce, local handicrafts, clothing, cheeses, jewellery and more are all available, plus a fabulous atmosphere.


Le Grand Bornand Market

Every Wednesday 8am - noon

Taking place throughout the year, don’t miss a visit to the market in Le Grand Bornand. With local crafts, cheeses, meats, fruit and vegetables, clothes and more on sale, it’s a great place to explore.




 Annecy Old Town Market

Tuesday, Friday & Sunday 7am - 1pm

Immerse yourself in the colour, scents and sounds of a traditional French market in Annecy’s historic old town. Find everything from cheese, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables to clothing, kitchen gadgets and street food. Friday’s market also has flowers.



Annecy Crafts, Arts & Flea Markets

Last Saturday of each month

The various craft, art and flea markets are fabulous to explore. From hand-made jewellery, clothing and furniture, to bric-a-brac, antiques and paintings, there’s plenty to choose from to take home!

Snack at the Corbassieres Farmhouse - La Clusaz

Every day from May 1 to October 15

Enjoy panoramic views over the Aravis mountains and taste farmhouse produce - you can walk or drive up the Patton road next to the Beauregard gondola.

12 € adult / 8 € children under 10


Visit Lorette’s Farm - Plateau de Beauregard

Every day

Find out all about life on an Alpine farm, tour the house and stay as long as you like. The cows are in the fields all day and come back at 3pm for milking. Guided tours take place at 2.30pm every day except Sunday, but must be booked in advance. 6 € adult / 4 € child (under 13) / free under four

Heritage House exhibition - Le Grand Bornand

Most weekdays - check website for times

A free exhibition on natural heritage runs until mid June, and is replaced by an exhibition on the First World War from 16 June. Guided tours of the house are also available on weekdays throughout the summer.

Food tasting on a farm, L’Alpage du Croix - Le Grand Bornand

Every Thursday, 21 June to 6 September

Taste local products on a traditional farm - enjoy Reblochon cheese, homemade jams, bread, pastries, butter and milk. Book up to a day before your visit - Adults 9,50€, child (10 years) 6€. Minimum age 1 year.


Heritage workshop - Build a farm - Le Grand Bornand

Every Monday (except bank holidays), 9 July - 20 August 2-3pm

Young would-be carpenters aged from six to 12 are invited to the Heritage House, where they can learn how to build a farm. The cost is 5€ per child, with the third child in every family going free.



Gourmet walk - Le Grand Bornand

Tuesdays, 10 July to 21 August, 10.15am to 11.45am

Discover Le Grand Bornand on foot with an expert guide, followed by a tasting of local products at the Maison du Patrimoine, offered by shopkeepers and farmers of Le Grand Bornand. Adults 5.50€, children (6-12) 3.30€. Book at the tourist office by 4.30pm on the day before your visit.


Gourmet walk in old Chinaillon

Thursdays, 12 July to 23 August, 10.15 to 11.45am

Discover the old village of Chinaillon with a heritage guide, followed by a tasting of local produce. See ancient chalets, the historic chapel and traditional wood-shingled roofs and learn about the village’s farming heritage and the birth of skiing in the area. The tour starts in front of the tourist office - book with the office the day before. Adults 5.50€, children (6-12) 3.30€ .


Paperchase - Le Grand Bornand

Wednesdays, 4 July to 22 August, 2-4.30pm

Discover the heritage and traditions of Le Grand Bornand on this paperchase - six wooden boxes have been placed around the village and it’s up to you to solve the riddles to find them. For children aged six to 12, each team must be supervised by an adult, entry is 3€. Book before 5pm on Tuesdays.

Discover summer biathlon - Le Grand Bornand

Wednesdays and Thursdays, 4 July to 30 August, 2.30-6.30pm

Bring the whole family and discover biathlon shooting with air rifles at the Auberge Nordique holiday village. It’s a great way to increase concentration and relieve stress! €15 per person.




Until 6 May - Petit Patapon

Cran-Gevrier, Annecy

With shows, stories, games, books, workshops and more this is a fun event for all the family. The 11th year of Petit Patapon, the theme of the event this year is family.

Saturdays from 5-26 May - Migrate up the mountain!

Le Grand Bornand

Join the Alpine farmers as they move their Abondance cattle and goats up into the summer pastures and learn about life on the farm. Please check times when you book, as they are dependent on the weather. Adults 6€, children aged 6-12 2€. Children aged under 6 go free, but please note that the procession moves at the speed of the animals!


Medievals d’Alby

Alby sur Cheran - 5 to 6 May

A weekend of medieval fun in the town of Alby sur Cheran near Annecy. Watch re-enactments of battles, with knights on horseback challenging each other to duels, and discover what it was like to live in medieval times. Entry 5€ for adults, free for children up to 10 years old.

European Night of Museums

Maison le Patrimoine, Le Grand Bornand - 19 May

Find out about the history of Le Grand Bornand by lamplight on this nocturnal visit to the Heritage House. This event is free, but numbers are limited, so book in advance.

Salomon Gore-Tex Maxi Race

Annecy le Vieux - 25 to 26 May

With over 5,000 runners from over 40 countries taking part, the Maxi-Race goes around Lake Annecy - via the mountains that surround it! There are eight routes, giving athletes of all levels the chance to participate in this celebration of trail running


Talloires Book Festival

Talloires - 26 to 27 May

This welcoming literary gathering sees renowned authors and journalists take part in a range of events including book signings, discussions and radio broadcasts. With a children’s literature bookshop and literary cafes, there’s plenty to choose from.

The Gypaete trail run

Le Grand Bornand - Chinaillon - 2 June

There are five courses for this event, with three of the starting points in Chinaillon. These courses range from 13km to 71km, with entry ranging from €17 to €70. There's even a circuit for pairs to compete (La Circaète binôme). Of course it’s free to watch!

Annecy International Animation Film Festival

Annecy - 11 to 16 June

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival was created in 1960 and became an annual event in 1988. See the latest award-winning animated films, discover the next trends and meet directors and new talents. Films for more than 85 countries are screened at a number of theatres around the town from 10am to 11pm, with an open air screening on the Paquier every evening at 10.15pm



Alpes Bike Festival

La Clusaz - 15 to 17 June

A huge mountain biking competition in a spectacular setting, the Alps Bike Festival is the new name for Roc des Alpes, a fun event whether you’re participating or spectating. With shows, music, children’s activities, summer luge and much more, this is a great event for all the family.



Local Heritage Days

Le Grand Bornand - 16 to 17 June

It’s open house at the heritage museum as part of Heritage Day - see an exhibition of flowers, a demonstration of wool spinning and the official opening of the exhibition. It’s free to visit the house, which is open from 10am to noon and 2-6pm.

Back to Grand Bo paragliding competition

Le Grand Bornand - 23 to 30 June

Amateur pilots join the best pilots in the world in this unique competition to see who can cover the greatest distance. Paragliders take off from the summit of Mont Lachat and try to fly as far as possible - all they have to do is take off and land in Le Grand Bornand and track their flight by GPS. Free to watch.




Le Grand Bornand - 23 June

This cycle race organised by the Velo Club is a stage of the Challenge Haute Savoie.   Choose from one of the three itineraries: 105, 118 or 135km with an uphill climb of 1500, 3000 or 3400m.Starting from and finishing at the Espace Grand Bo from 7.55am, registration is €38, with an extra €12 for a meal ticket.


The night of churches

Eglise Notre Dame, Place de l’Eglise, Le Grand Bornand - 30 June

Explore the church from 9-10.30pm with a heritage guide, hear organ demonstrations and find out how the organ works. Free visit.

Jeep Festival

Manigod - 30 June to 1 July

See a range of vehicles including Jeeps and Dodges, plus demonstrations and food. Organised by L’amicale Jeep la Croix-Fry.



Discover Reblochon Cheese making

Le Grand Bornand - 6 July to 31 August every Tuesday and Friday

Discover farm life, taste Reblochon cheese and see it made. Adults 5€, children (6-12 years) 2.80€, Free for children under 6. Book at the tourist office the day before the 10.30am visit.


L’Etape du Tour

Annecy to Le Grand Bornand - 8 July

A chance for amateur cyclists to compete on a stage of the Tour de France route - this year it will start in Annecy and end in Le Grand-Bornand. With up to 15,000 participants, this is now Europe’s benchmark cyclosportive event.

Concert organ and trumpet with Thibault Duret et Christophe Gallien.



Aix-les-Bains - 12 to 15 July

It’s a bit further to go for this one, but it’s only an hour from Annecy and it’s worth the journey! This year there are four days of music, with headliners including Deep Purple, Depeche Mode, The Stranglers, You Me at Six and Beth Ditto. Tickets range from 59€ for a one-day pass to €204 for a four-day pass with camping.

Firemen’s Ball

La Clusaz, Champ Giguet - 13 July

This traditional event takes place every year on the eve of the national holiday and is free to residents and holiday guests. The parade starts at the Champ Giguet at 8pm and at 8.30pm the firefighters march from the town back to the field. There is live music, with a firework finale, before the evening finishes at 10pm.


National Day celebration

Le Chinaillon, Le Grand Bornand - 13 July

An evening of entertainment, concerts, fireworks and dancing to celebrate the national day of France. The fun starts at 6.30pm and ends with fireworks at 10.30pm. The event is free so come along!



Mountain Festival

Le Grand Bornand - 14 July

Enjoy a Savoyard meal in the village square and a light show on the mountains. This annual event is organised by the Mountain Rescue Team and the Local Guide company. The entertainment is free and includes a mountain rescue demonstration, music and dancing



Tour de France, 10th stage Annecy - Le Grand-Bornand

Le Grand Bornand - 17 July

The village will welcome cyclists at the end of this 10th stage of the 105th edition of the Tour de France with 159 km of racing, climbing three passes, and a historic crossing of the plateau of Glières. It promises to be a great spectacle, so grab your place along the route and join the crowds to welcome the cyclists to town.

Picture trail

Le Grand Bornand - 18 July

Look for 12 pictures placed throughout the village - each picture contains a clue. When you’ve solved all the clues you will find out the final meeting place! From 2-4.30pm. Entry is 3€ per person, free for children under 6.

The Eagle Trail

Manigod - 22 July

Three challenges, all starting from Croix-Fry. They are a 26km trail with a climb of 1240m, a 11km trail with a 520m climb and a Nordic walking event.


Fête Champetre de Lormay

Bouchet valley - buses from Le Grand Bornand - 22 July

Old traditions, trades and handcrafts are revisited at this country fair. Toss hay bales, find out how Reblochon is made, enjoy a delicious Savoyarde meal and dance the night away. Entertainment is free, the meal costs 15€ for adults and 10-13€ for a child.


Musique a Beauregard

Plateau de Beauregard, La Clusaz/Manigod - 19 to 28 July

The second edition of this festival puts music in the heart of the mountains - five sites and more than 100 musicians! Families are well catered for, with musical walks, workshops for children, and a singing academy, whose students will perform at the end of the festival. The festival opens with a concert at the church in La Clusaz, with other concerts taking place on the Plateau de Beauregard, just 15 minutes walk from the Col de la Croix Fry, or in bad weather, at the church in Manigod.

Satiam Yoga Festival

La Clusaz - 20 to 22 July

Beginners can discover yoga in a mountain setting and enthusiasts can extend their knowledge at this first festival, led by Katie Misson. Friday pass €45, Saturday pass €95, two day pass (Saturday and Sunday) €180, Weekend pass €215 (includes a free spa treatment). Courses are €20 per unit, or €10 for children aged 4-12.

La Soirée Champêtre country fair

La Clusaz, Le Bossonet - 25 July

Discover the local heritage and food at this country fair, with the folk group Lou Socali. Discover how Reblochon is made - and taste it, try folk dancing and enjoy a Savoyard dinner. Tickets are €13 from the tourist office.

A preview to the big children’s festival, Au Bonheur Des Momes in August, this free show mixes theatre, music and circus arts. The fun starts at 6.30pm.

Fete du Lac

Annecy - 4 August

This spectacular firework festival will once again light up the town and its lake - over an hour of non-stop displays over the Bay of Albigny regularly attract more than 200,000 spectators, so be sure to get there in good time!


Village Festival

La Clusaz, L’Ecole Cite Notre Dame - 4 to 5 August

A weekend of shows, games and activities designed with children in mind, followed by a traditional ball, late into the night. Organised at the primary school, L’Ecole Cite Notre Dame.



Fete de l’Alpage

Chinaillon, Le Grand Bornand - 5 August

A whole day of entertainment, including an ox-drawn wagon parade, a milking competition, a country-style meal and fireworks. Tickets for lunch are 13.50€ for adults, a dinner of tomme blanche is 9€. Free buses run all day, until 10.40pm.The fun takes place at the bottom of the Les Gettiers chairlift.


les Choeurs de France

Le Grand Bornand - 8 August

A choir made up of more than 60 members from all over France gathers in Espace Grand Bo for this concert.

Reblochon festival

La Clusaz - 12 August

A festival celebrating the history of local farming and the production of Reblochon. See how the cheese is made in the afternoon, and enjoy folk dancing, bread-making and a grand parade through the village. Free.


21st Cycle ascent Le Bouquetin

Le Grand Bornand/Col de la Colombiere - 15 August

This timed climb of the Col de la Colombiere starts at 9am (registration from 7:30am). Organised by the Velo Club, it is open to anyone aged 16 and over. Entry is 12€ for cyclists but it’s free for spectators.


Festival of 15 August

Le Grand Bornand - 15 August

The fun starts at 4pm with the cooking of a giant tartiflette - a Savoyard delicacy of potatoes, bacon and Reblochon cheese. Music and dancing follow, as well as a raffle. Entertainment is free but the meal should be booked at the tourist office. It costs 13€ for adults and 8€ for children under 10.



Au Bonheur des Momes

Le Grand Bornand - 26 to 31 August

This children’s festival is the highlight of the summer for families - six days of entertainment including music, dance, workshops, games and puppet shows. An access bracelet costs 5€ for a day or 20€ for a week. Shows at La Grenette are free but charges vary for workshops and indoor shows, for which it is advisable to book. The programme is available on the website.

Le Belier trail race

La Clusaz - 24 to 26 August

One of the oldest trail races in Haute Savoie, three days of events have been arranged for the 33rd edition, which is open to runners, walkers, beginners and experts. Try out trail, hiking and Nordic walking products in the test village which has 2km and 5km circuits.

Gastronomic market

Thônes - 7 to 9 September

More than 60 food producers and makers come to Thônes, for this three-day covered festival, with live demonstrations of recipes by well-known regional chefs, conferences, and a gastronomic meal.


La Croix Fair

La Clusaz - 16 September

Mountain farmers, shepherds and goat herders get together to celebrate the end of the summer and the return of the animals to the village. The cows parade to be judged and the winner of the best Reblochon cheese is decided. The day is rounded off with evening entertainment.
