What's on in the Aravis

Whether you love to ski all day, every day or prefer to cosy up in your OVO Network chalet after a day spent exploring the area, the French Alps offer plenty to keep you entertained both on and off the slopes. Take a look at some of the main events taking place over the coming winter months...

Summer or winter, these events take place throughout the year.

 Annecy Old Town Market

Tuesday, Friday & Sunday 7am - 1pm

Immerse yourself in the colour, scents and sounds of a traditional French market in Annecy’s historic old town. Find everything from cheese, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables to clothing, kitchen gadgets and street food. Friday’s market also has flowers.




Annecy Crafts, Arts & Flea Markets

Last Saturday of each month

The various craft, art and flea markets are fabulous to explore. From hand-made jewellery, clothing and furniture, to bric-a-brac, antiques and paintings, there’s plenty to choose from to take home!




La Clusaz Market

Every Monday 8am - noon

La Clusaz’s weekly market is a wonderful place to explore whether you’re visiting in winter or summer. Fresh produce, local handicrafts, clothing, cheeses, jewellery and more are all available, plus a fabulous atmosphere.


Le Grand Bornand Market

Every Wednesday 8am - noon

Taking place throughout the year, don’t miss a visit to the market in Le Grand Bornand. With local crafts, cheeses, meats, fruit and vegetables, clothes and more on sale, it’s a great place to explore.

The following events take place through the winter season.

19th December to the 19th March - Night Skiing


The Manigod area of La Clusaz offers one of the biggest night skiing areas in Europe, and is a fabulous evening out. Enjoy great skiing under the stars - and spotlights! - and then have a tasty meal in one of the mountain restaurants.

Every Friday and Saturday, ski by night up to 9pm. 

And also every night from the 19th December to the 2nd of January, from the 5th February to the 5th March 2016 (except on Sunday) !


26th December to the 27th March - Night Skiing


Le Grand Bornand - Chinaillon

From 26/12/2017 to 27/03/2018, every Tuesday between 5 PM and 9.30 PM


1 January - 20 April - Paret Lessons.

Enjoy beginners’ lessons on the Paret, Manigod’s emblematic sledge, every Wednesday afternoon after the lifts close on the Blonchot piste, at Col de Merdassier.
If that is not enough for you, every day between 1 January and 20 April, after the pistes have closed, you can hone your skills on the paret with the ESF and also take a speed and performance test. Why not get everyone involved and make it a little competition between family and friends!



24 November - 7 January 2018 - Annecy Christmas Market


In Annecy old town you can enjoy a magical atmosphere, with present ideas, plus festive treats such as hot wine and gingerbread. If you visit the market in late afternoon/evening you can also watch the sound and light experience where images are projected onto the facade of the town hall.



9 - 10 December - Snow on Rock 

Le Grand Bornand

Get your ski season underway with a chance to test the best of this season’s skis and snowboards. Le Grand Bornand puts on a full weekend of events and concerts across the ski runs in Chinaillon with a festive Christmas theme.


12 - 17 December - BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon,

Le Grand Bornand

Testing the best of the best, combining cross country skiing and rifle shooting. This adrenaline pumping sport has fast become one of the most popular winter sports in France and can be enjoyed over five days around Le Grand Bornand. This year’s French team also includes Le Grand Bornand’s own Martin Fourcade. You can find a fascinating interview with Martin and more information on the event via the following link. 



20 - 24 December - Thônes Christmas Village


Head to the charming town of Thônes, the gateway to La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand and Manigod, to explore the Christmas Village. Enjoy a vin chaud, handmade gifts, local specialities and more.



24 December - 03 January - Les Pestacles du Pere Noel

La Clusaz

Taking place each year, this fun and magical event will have all the family in the festive spirit. With free shows and events, including magicians, dancers and storytellers, as well as traditional christmas market stalls filling the centre of the village with the warming smells of spiced vin chaud and hot chocolate. On the evening of the 24th the town gathers to watch as Father Christmas is welcomed into the village following a procession of torch carrying skiers. This is truly an event not to be missed.


23 - 24 December -  Fairy Christmas


Taking place over both days between 2-7pm, Manigod village puts on a magical fairy christmas to be enjoyed by all the family, highlighted by the arrival of Santa Claus himself.  


24 December - Christmas Eve in Le Grand Bornand Chinaillon

A magical evening that culminates in the arrival of Santa Claus. Starting at 5.45pm, there’s free hot chocolate and mulled wine for everyone, plus a torchlight parade that heralds the arrival of Santa Claus. There’s also Mass in the church at 6.30pm and 8.30pm, and celebrations in front of the church.


A Visit to see Santa

For families with young children, visit Santa’s grotto between Annecy and Geneva, see his workshop and the main man himself - you can even have a snack with Mrs Claus! 


10 January - Human Curling

Le Grand Bornand

Bring family and friends along to the Grand Bornand ice rink and take part in human curling. Team up and glide down the rink on rubber tubes for an original and fun filled evening.

20 January - The GlaGla Race

Talloires, Lake Annecy

The 5th annual edition of the unique GlaGla Race sees 500 Stand Up Paddle Boarders competing against a backdrop of the snow covered mountains that surround Lake Annecy. 16 countries will be represented, including Australia and Hawaii, with some of the top male and female paddle boarders such as Travis Grant taking part. The main event takes place on Saturday 20 January, but there will be training runs on Friday 19. In the case of bad weather the event may be postponed to Sunday 21 January, so keep an eye on the website if you’re planning to go and watch.

22 January - Pop Rock night with dinner

Le Grand Bornand

Dance the night away to your favourite pop rock ballads, after enjoying a traditional savoyard dinner, all at the Bournarie Restaurant in Grand Bornand. Take the party to the restaurant (max 70 ppl) or go as a smaller group and take the chance to meet like minded music lovers.




3 Feb - Full moon ski

La Clusaz

Enjoy the incredible atmosphere of skiing at night under a full moon. With the slopes open until 1am, plus some fabulous parties at the restaurants and bars, this is an evening not to be missed.



15 February - The 6 Stations

La Clusaz

This is a rugby competition with a difference! Now in it’s sixth year, this is the first rugby sevens tournament to be played on groomed snow, and is great fun to watch with some ex international players taking part too!



20 Feb - La Clusaz Carnival

La Clusaz

Revel in the vibrant and exciting atmosphere of Carnaval in La Clusaz. Celebrate and watch as the local businesses parade through town on elaborate floats in full fancy dress. This annual event is definitely one not to be missed. A great evening out for all the family, with parties going on throughout the night. Don’t forget your fancy dress!  



23 - 25 Feb - Venetian Carnival Annecy


Often called the Alpine Venice because of its canals, Annecy hosts its own Venetian Carnival from 23rd - 25th February 2018. With fabulous costumes and masks, plus an incredible atmosphere this is a great event to take part in. 




3 March - Full Moon Skiing

La Clusaz

Enjoy the incredible atmosphere of skiing at night under a full moon. With the slopes open until 1am, plus some fabulous parties at the restaurants and bars, this is an evening not to be missed. 



17 March - Paret Championships


Discover the Paret sledge, the emblem of Manigod and a fantastic sport to try your hand at! In the Paret Championships you can see the experts really putting their skills to the test!


23 - 25 March - Glisse en Coeur

Le Grand Bornand Chinaillon.

Enjoy a fantastic atmosphere at the French Alps’ No. 1 charity event, which sees round the clock skiing, great music, entertainment and more. With media and sports personalities joining in and lending support, this is a must see event this winter!



29 March - 2 April - Radiomeuh Circus Festival

La Clusaz

Enjoy three evenings of eclectic live concerts under a circus tent and five days of DJ sets on the slopes and around the village, with some extra fun thrown in for good measure. 




22 April - Defi Foly

La Clusaz

For 25 years sportsmen and women have competed on skis, mono skis, snow boards, or anything that slides, to slide the longest distance over the Confins Lake. With an incredible atmosphere, and slightly crazy competitors, this is fun to watch for all the family.
