About La Grange à L'Ours

This beautiful 5 star traditional chalet is on the sunny south-facing side of the Manigod valley, 3 km from the ski slopes of La Croix Fry, near the charming village of Manigod. The mountainside falls away steeply in front of the chalet, giving stunning panoramic views across the Aravis mountains to Tournette.

There's a large flat garden to the sides and back, making it ideal for games, catching the sun or eating al fresco. And now that the owners have added a stunning sauna and barrel hot tub, you can really relax as you soak up the views! The spacious covered and furnished terrace on the west side of the chalet is the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors all year round. A bakery and restaurant (which also offers takeaway food) can be found just a few minutes away in the charming village of Manigod, and there are more restaurants in Merdassier, although these may be closed out of season.

The road is regularly cleared of snow, and the ski bus stops nearby and connects Manigod with the La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand areas.

The property ...

As soon as you step inside La Grange à L'Ours, you will realise that it is a much-loved family home. A mixture of antique and modern furniture make for a relaxed atmosphere, and the open-plan living area with its cosy sofas around the fire is the perfect place to enjoy an evening with friends.

There is a sunny south-facing balcony which overlooks the valley and the dining area has doors on to the covered terrace, so you can eat inside or out.

Cooking up a Savoyard feast is a pleasure in the brand new kitchen (perfectly equipped, even with a Nespresso coffee machine), which has another dining table for informal meals. There is a double bedroom on this floor, with an en suite bath and shower room.

On the ground floor there is a fabulous home cinema with a huge wide screen, laundry, ski room, shower room, garage and useful storage. There is also a boot room with heaters for 10 pairs of ski boots and hanging space for ski clothes.

There are three more double bedrooms (two with ensuite shower room and one with an additional single bed) and a twin room on the top floor. Two of these bedrooms have access to a balcony. 

About the area ...

La Grange à L'Ours couldn’t be better placed to enjoy everything the La Clusaz area has to offer. You’re just a five-minute drive from the pistes at Croix Fry (altitude 1500m). Here novice skiers can learn the basics with an ESF instructor, while the more experienced will enjoy the 220km of pistes that link the area to La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand.

Parking at the pistes is free, but if you’d rather leave the car at home, the ski bus stops just 50m from the chalet and will have you on the slopes in no time.

Cross-country skiers will find plenty of trails to choose from, and non-skiers are not forgotten either, with a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, ice skating rink and cinema, as well as sledging, snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and sleigh rides all just a short drive away.

In the summer, you can fill your days with activities or take it easy - you’ll be spoiled for choice in the Aravis region. There’s no shortage of walks, from mountain trails to hiking on the Gliéres plateau.

If road or mountain biking is more your style, the chalet overlooks the route of the Tour de France when it passes through Manigod on the way to La Clusaz. In summer some of the ski lifts become bike lifts - take the easy wway up and come down at your own pace.

Adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, or white-water rafting - just some of the many activities on offer within a few miles of Manigod.

Lake Annecy is only 30 minutes away and offers lots of watersports including waterskiing, wake-boarding, sailing, and diving. If this all sounds too energetic, why not just take a cruise, or hire a boat and find yourself a quiet lakeside beach? Whatever you do, you’re sure to have a holiday you won’t forget.

“Stop, breathe and take in the awesome views”

You really do get the opportunity to stop, breathe and take in the awesome views at Grange a L'Ours. At an altitude of 1290 m the chalet is a good location for guests wanting to ski as it less than 3km from the pistes at the Col de la Croix Fry, in a superb situation above the road (and ski bus stop). It is also within walking distance of the Croix Fry Hotel with it's celebrated Table de Marie Ange restaurant.

The large chalet has 3 spacious double bedrooms, a double room at the back of the chalet, which is not quite as large as the others, and a room with three single beds. There is an ensuite shower room with shower, hand basin and wc, plus a shower room with shower and hand basin on the first floor, a bathroom with bath, shower, double hand basin on the ground floor and a shower room with shower and hand basin in the basement, so 5 bedrooms 4 bathrooms. There is an independent wc on each floor.

There is plenty of room to store wet kit (skis and bikes) securely, to dry ready for action the next day without cluttering up the chalet.

The chalet is being redecorated by the new owners. The main living floor, is spacious, light and airy and like many of the OVO Network Manigod properties, boasts beautiful views of the stunning Manigod valley from the large picture windows. It has separate living and dining areas, a wonderful fireplace, and the separate kitchen has more seating if required.

The chalet will also work well for families in the summer because of the outdoor space; there garden is 3000m2, (some of which is flat!) sheltered terraces, balconies, and the walk through the forest up to the plateau de Beauregard is just behind the chalet.

“We visited La Clusaz initially for skiing and we then returned and spent a month in the area during the summer. The natural beauty and the huge range of things to do really impressed us and we decided then to come back to look for a more permanent base for year-round family holidays.

The panoramic view from the chalet is stunning, from the lower ski slopes at Col de la Croix Fry on the left across to the mountains of Sulens and Tournette and then to the higher pastures above the village.

There is such a wide range of winter and summer activities to enjoy. With the new night skiing facility a three-minute drive from the house, you can now ski for 12 hours a day. There is also the Beauregard plateau behind the chalet for cross-country skiing. In the summer, take your pick from road and mountain biking, walking on the many well marked trails, to swimming in the warm waters of lake Annecy. The more time we spend here the more we find to enjoy.

VERY BEAUTIFUL CHALET, south facing, very vast, although it could benefit from one or two more bathrooms. We were a group of 5 and for 10 people I guess that would matter. Otherwise we were delighted with our stay.
