You can drive to the tranquil resort of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville in about three minutes, and it's free to park next to the ski lift in the centre of the village.

About the property

There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms at this homely three-storey chalet.

On the lower ground floor you'll find a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom, and a children's room with a single bed and a set of bunk beds. The sauna and a WC are also on this floor.

The open-plan living area on the ground floor opens onto a sunny terrace with a hot tub - the best place to enjoy the views and perhaps do a bit of star-gazing. You can cook up a feast in the well-equipped kitchen before sitting down together to eat at the dining table in front of the fire. After dinner, retire to the sofas and watch a film or plan your next big Alpine adventure.

There's another double bedroom on the first floor, which has an en suite bathroom. There's also a single bed in an alcove, accessible by a ladder, which is perhaps best suited to an older child. There's also a beautifully-bright sitting room with doors onto a balcony, where you can enjoy breathtaking views over the mountains.

About the area

The tranquil ski resort of St Martin de Belleville is a great hit with families, due to its relaxed atmosphere and a superb dedicated ski area for beginners.

You'll find a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants, but if you're looking for lively apres ski, you might have to travel a bit further.

Fast lifts and 600km of pistes across the Trois Vallees, Les Menuires, Meribel and Courchevel mean there's plenty of scope for winter sport enthusiasts.

There's lots for thrill-seekers in the summer too. Try paragliding, climbing, via ferrata or perhaps even white-water rafting and canyoning on the Isère river.
