About Chalet Joubarbe ...
With spectacular views overlooking the pistes and the mighty summits around, you won't find a better base for your Alpine holiday, whatever the time of year you choose to visit.
During the autumn 2023, the lower level of the property will be revamped, with the creation of a 50m2 wellness area that will complement the actual sauna. It will be ready for 15th December, right on time for the opening of the ski season!
Once you are here, just park up the car and forget it! Chalet Joubarbe is on the edge of the village of Chinaillon (300m), so it's just a short stroll to fetch fresh bread from the boulangerie in the morning or for a tasty local meal in the evening. Le Grand Bornand / Chinaillon resort has a Famille Plus rating, which means there is always something going on to keep the kids busy.
The chalet itself has been extensively renovated, so you'll have all the comforts of home in this stunning setting, and the owners have an office nearby, so are always available to answer any questions.
Ski shop Rêves d'Hiver can deliver your skis to the chalet, come to the property to help you choose your equipment or even pick you up and drive you to their shop to benefit from their professional advise. Discounts and free ski store available.
IMPORTANT : no parties are allowed at the chalet. Thank you for your understanding.
The property ...
The large light-filled living area on the first floor of Chalet Joubarbe makes the most of the fabulous views, and opens on to a large sunny terrace so you can get even closer to the mountains.
There’s room for more than one chef in the well-equipped kitchen, so you can share the cooking before all sitting down to eat at the huge dining table. After dinner, retire to the cosy leather sofas where you can watch a film on the big screen TV complete with surround sound or enjoy the night sky from the furnished terrace.
If you'd rather, you could play a game of table football or read on the mezzanine, or just plan the next day in the beautiful Aravis region around the fire.
With five bedrooms and three bathrooms set over three floors, there’s plenty of room for up to 13 people - and possibly two other guests if needed! There are two double bedrooms and a twin room on the first floor, where you will also find a shower room and a utility room. On the top floor, one room has a double bed, a single bed and a pair of bunk beds while the other has three single beds. There's also a shower room on this floor as well as the games room.
About the area ...
It’s just a 700m walk from Chalet Joubarbe to the ski lift, but if you’d rather save your energy for the slopes, the ski bus stops at the end of the drive every 15 minutes.
With your Aravis ski pass, you’ve got all the Lake Annecy ski resorts at your disposal - more than 200km of perfect pistes. Even closer is a great sledge run and the start of the cross-country ski piste. Beginners in this sport will love the nearby Evo Nordic Park, which has a circuit featuring a variety of terrains, while boarders will appreciate the Snowpark.
Non-skiers can go ice-skating or swimming in La Clusaz, where the heated indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
At the end of a busy day, head back to your cosy chalet, hang up wet clothes in the drying room ready for another day, and relax in the sauna.
In the summer, children will enjoy playing in the play park with swings, a climbing wall, slides etc which is shared with children staying at three chalets owned by the same owners. A network of walking and biking trails cover the mountains around Chalet Joubarbe, and you can pick up a route map for either at the tourist office in Chinaillon.
No doubt you'll manage to get close to local mountain goats and groundhogs around the nearby Colombière pass! There’s a fantastic swimming pool complex in Le Grand Bornand, with a restaurant and grassy areas for picnics.
If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, there’s a climbing school, via ferrata routes, a tree-top adventure park, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding all nearby.
The medieval town of Annecy is a must for a day out, whatever the season. It offers a unique mix of shops, restaurants, galleries and museums, and Lake Annecy, said to be the cleanest lake in Europe, is a great place for watersports, swimming, cycling or just relaxing on the beach.
August sees the International Children’s Festival in Le Grand Bornand - a week of puppet shows, circus acts and workshops, with a grand firework finale. You’re in the heart of Reblochon country, so on your travels don’t forget to pick up some of this delicious cheese from a local farm or market!

The OVO Network Review
Chalet Joubarbe is a three-storey chalet for 15 people just a short walk from the village of Chinaillon, near Le Grand Bornand.
There are three bedrooms on the the first floor - two doubles and a twin room - which share a bathroom, and on the top floor, a triple room and a room with two single beds and a set of bunk beds share a shower room. This is a great floor for younger guests, as there's also a mezzanine games area with table football.
The cosy sitting room is a great place to get together to watch a film, and the huge dining table, right in front of the doors on to the terrace, is sure to be the scene of many lively meals together. The large open kitchen means cooking and clearing up can be shared!
There's a large balcony at Chalet Joubarbe which overlooks the pistes and the chairlift - there's room to eat out here, or just sit and soak up the sun.
If you don't want to drive, you won't need to when you stay at this chalet, with lifts, shops and restaurants all just a short walk away.

From the owner

Les Congères
Our parents have been welcoming paying guests since 1965 to " Les Congères" [the Snowdrift] , the nearby property which our father built himself, so my sister and I are well acquainted with looking after guests: it's a family tradition!
The property was named Snowdrift because of the vast amounts of snow which used to surround the isolated farms and buildings which were in Chinaillon at that time. We took over the family business a couple of years ago with the idea of upgrading the accommodation on offer and this is what we feel we have achieved.
Chalet Joubarbe was in fact the old family home where we both grew up. We have completely refurnished it and hope that you will really enjoy spending your holiday in the spacious and airy living room which has superb views out onto the pistes.
You can park the car in the parking for your entire holiday, as shops, walking trails and the pistes are just a short walk from the chalet. Also we are close at hand should you have any problems or enquiries.. We look forward to welcoming you.
