Why you should buy a chalet
in the French Alps

Resorts across the Alps have been steadily investing in infrastructure, attractions and promotions to make themselves ‘four season’ destinations. Facilities have been improved, events have been created and many resorts are now almost as vibrant and inviting in spring, summer and autumn as they are in winter.

As a result, OVO Network has seen demand for our high-quality accommodation increase throughout the year, including during what were traditionally seen as the quieter ‘shoulder seasons’. 

A combination of growing awareness of the year-round attractions of the mountains, together with OVO Network’s marketing initiatives has led to occupancy rates of over 70% at some properties in July/August. Five years ago this was unheard of.

Accessibility to the region is also a key driver in this growth. The vast majority of Alpine resorts enjoy excellent road and rail networks, as well as international airports. Geneva acts as an important hub for the Northern French Alps and regular flights from airlines such as easyJet have helped fuel the growth of resorts in the Portes du Soleil, Grand Massif and Aravis, as well as the Chamonix Valley.

Whether you already own an Alpine property or are thinking of investing, it’s worth noting that a strong rental return is not all about the desirability of a particular location. While famous resorts such as Val d’Isere and Courchevel have high demand, they also have high prices. Guests today are not purely driven by the big-name resorts, many now look for ‘hidden gems’ that are quieter and more traditional.
