About Chalet Le Buhel
This beautifully renovated 4 star chalet comes from the owners of the popular Chalet Le Kitz, next door. Larger groups of up to 25 (max 22 adults) will be able to book both chalets together.
Situated in Villards-sur-Thônes, just a few minutes from the main road between Thônes and St-Jean-de Sixt, the chalet is ideally placed for exploring the ski stations of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, as well as the beautiful lakeside town of Annecy.
Chalet Le Buhel is in a quiet location and makes the most of the fabulous views over Mont Lachat, Tournette and Le Lachat de Grand Bornand. There’s a lovely sunny terrace with a hot tub, and the property is then open to fields and forest, making it a great place to walk or cycle from.
Although the garden is open, there is little or no passing traffic, so children can explore and play safely.
Please note although Chalet Buhel is visible on the google map below, neighbouring Chalet Kitz, a project built several years ago by the same owners, does not display yet. You can see both properties in the exterior photos for both.
The property
A private road leads up to Chalet Le Buhel, which enjoys a very peaceful locations with breathtaking mountain views.
As you enter on the ground floor, you'll find a useful ski room and a laundry room. There is also a vast family ensuite bedroom on this floor, with a bunk bed and attached bathroom.
Stairs lead up to the main living area, which is open plan. The stylish fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook for 15 people, and there's a large dining table with views on to the terrace and beyond to the mountains - a great place to enjoy an apero as the sun sets, or perhaps a vin chaud as you watch for shooting stars... The cosy living area has a television and a wood-burning stove.
There's another double en suite bedroom on this floor, as well as a separate toilet with washbasin.
On the second floor you'll find a pool table, a table football and a large en suite bedroom with two twin beds and a pair of bunk beds - ideal for a family or children. There are three more en suite double bedrooms on this floor, two of which open on to the sunny balcony.
The mezzanine has been designed for children, with a TV corner and a play area.
The great use of space in this chalet and spacious bedrooms make it a great choice for a large family group. Kids will love having their own space, but the large living area is the perfect place to get together to relax or share a meal.
The area
Winter sports fans who want to escape from the bustle of modern ski resorts will find Chalet Le Buhel the perfect refuge.
Situated in Villards-sur-Thones, between La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, you can ski somewhere new every day. Your Aravis ski pass also covers the Manigod area, giving you 220km of pistes of varying levels to explore, as well as extensive off-piste action. Cross-country skiers will discover trails from nearby St-Jean-de-Sixt, just a few minutes drive from the chalet.
Non-skiers are well catered for too, and can go ice skating or swimming in La Clusaz where the heated indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
At the end of the day, return to Chalet Le Buhel for a meal before relaxing in the jacuzzi under the night sky. What could possibly be better?
If you're looking for a summer break, Chalet Le Buhel is perfectly placed, putting you a short drive from the Aravis mountain range.
At the nearby village of St-Jean-de-Sixt, just minutes from the chalet, you can try the Bun-J ride, a cross between ski jumping and bungee jumping! Other more traditional pastimes are available too - marked footpaths crisscross the mountains, or you can explore by mountain bike or on horseback.
There are indoor and outdoor swimming pool complexes in Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and Thônes, or if you’re looking for something a little more challenging, there are climbing schools, via ferrata routes, tree-top adventure parks, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding all nearby.
Less than an hour from Geneva airport, the property is between the ski resorts of the Aravis and the medieval lakeside town of Annecy, which offers a unique mix of shops, restaurants, galleries, markets and museums. Lake Annecy, said to be the cleanest lake in Europe, is a great place for water sports, swimming, cycling or just relaxing on the beach.
Back at Chalet Le Buhel, there is plenty of scope for children to explore, while you catch some sun on the stunning terrace, relax in the hot tub or fire up the barbecue for dinner.

This large authentic chalet for up to 15 people is spread over 310m2 and three floors.
Chalet Buhel is located in a tranquil setting with spectacular mountain views. As it's not far from St Jean de Sixt, winter guests wanting to ski or snowboard have great access to the Aravis ski resorts of Grand Bornand and La Clusaz.
Those more interested in exercising closer to home can instead head out on snow shoe walks from the door of the chalet in winter, or in hiking boots/ on mountain or road bikes in the summer.
The huge terrace is an ideal spot from which to take in the ever-changing views and relax and chat over coffee or dinner with friends and family. Or you may prefer the view from the relaxing comfort of the jacuzzi on the deck, available all year round.
The 2000 m2 parcel of land surrounding the chalet makes for a great outdoor playground, especially as there is no through traffic, the only road around is the road then drive leading to the chalet!
There are six en suite bedrooms, and lots of extra spaces in the chalet so that guests can spread out and discover their favourite place to be; catch up with the latest bestsellers in the lounge by the fireplace, head up a floor to the pool table, have fun in the exterior jacuzzi. Kids will love the games room on the mezzanine at the top of the chalet.
The ski room is equipped with boot driers, and hanging/ drying space, always really appreciated by sports enthusiasts. There is plenty of parking, and if your holiday is planned around a special celebration or event, with lots and family and friends in mind, Chalet Buhel can also be rented with neighbouring Chalet Kitz (Kitz +Buhel)
Both properties have been designed by and are owned by the same owners, Sophie and Damien, who have been running holiday rental properties for a long time. We have only ever had great feedback from their guests who in particular praise the spacious comfortable bedrooms, and the way Sophie and Damien set their properties up with guests in mind.
The total capacity of both properties is 27, with a maximum of 22 adults.

As Aravis locals, we love our region and are looking forward to sharing it with you!
After we built Chalet Kitz, we started renovating the old farm next door, which dates from 1836.
Damien set to work designing a spacious and comfortable chalet, respecting the traditional architecture of the old farm. Two years later, Chalet Le Buhel was finished! Situated in the quiet unspoilt hamlet of Grand Champs in the heart of the Aravis, this little corner of paradise is the perfect place to recharge your batteries.
You’re just 6km from the ski stations at La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, 3km from the supermarket, bakery and sports shops and 20km from the lake at Annecy.
Our two chalets can be booked together as Kitz-Buhel to accommodate up to 25 people – the perfect place for a group holiday or a family reunion. The name is a nod to my brother, Thomas Mermillod Blondin who won medals at Kitzbuhel, the legendary Austrian station known for its heady downhill!

A wonderful chalet for a large group holiday. Very well designed. Very spacious to accommodate 13 of us, giving us different areas to spread out or to group together. Lovely decor, extremely well equipped with all you need. Only 10 minutes' drive from La Clusaz and in a beautiful location of its own. Sophie, the owner, was readily available and responsive if we had any questions prior to and during the holiday. No hesitation at all in recommending it or possibly returning ourselves in the future.
