About Chalet Alex ...
You'll find the lovely 5 star Chalet Alex right opposite the mini resort of Le Cret, where, snow permitting, beginners and nervous skiers can gain confidence before progressing to the main slopes in La Clusaz or Grand Bornand.
At the end of a private road but just 1.7km from the village of St Jean de Sixt, Chalet Alex offers a quiet place to relax just minutes from restaurants, bars and shops. It's perfect for families, with a newly-landscaped garden which borders the forest, a large terrace with an inflatable hot tub and three seating areas, where you can gather to watch TV, play computer games or just catch up over a glass of wine or two.
Designed for those who want to make the most of the fabulous outdoor life in the Alps, there is plenty of space to store skis, bikes and outdoor clothes ready for your next mountain adventure (shoe and glove dryer available).
The property ...
You and seven of your friends and family will find plenty of space to enjoy the mountain life at this newly-renovated 5 star chalete.
From the parking area, you'll go straight into a handy area where you can take off and store your outdoor clothes. There's also a door from here to the garage, where you can safely store your skis, snowboards or bikes. There's a seating area down here with a flat screen 3D television and a PlayStation 4, perfect for kids of all ages. Table tennis and table football are available too and stored in the garage. There's also the laundry room and a toilet on this floor.
Upstairs, the main living area centres on an unusual woodburner, which heats up the stones it is made from and radiates heat throughout the chalet - perfect to come home to after a day on the slopes. There's plenty of room for everyone on the cosy sofas to curl up and watch a film on the ultra high-res flat screen television.
Beyond this is the dining area and open plan kitchen, which was handmade by a local craftsman. It's a really sociable area, perfect for sharing a Savoyarde fondue or perhaps a raclette. Doors lead out on to the balcony and terrace, which has stunning views of the beginners' pistes in one direction, across to La Tournette in another and to Pointe Percée in another.
The master bedroom suite is on this floor too - a large double with plenty of storage and a shower room with twin sinks. There are three more double bedrooms on the top floor, all of which are en suite and have dressing rooms. The two bedrooms at the front of the chalet also have balconies - a great place to have breakfast while watching the early birds on the beginner's pistes!
There's a third seating area on this floor too - a mezzanine overlooking the main living area downstairs, so whatever you choose to do in the evening, you can always find your own space.
About the area ...
Whether you've got young or older beginners in your ski party, Chalet Alex is the perfect place to help them find their ski legs.
The chalet is just 100m from Le Crêt, which, snow permitting, has a Fil Neige rope and a mini run to help young beginners gain confidence before they hit the main slopes. When you're ready to move on, there's plenty of great skiing to choose from, what ever your level, in La Clusaz just under 5km away and Le Grand Bornand which is 3.5km away.
The ski bus stops in St Jean de Sixt and links both resorts with the Manigod area, giving you 220km of pistes of varying levels to explore, as well as extensive off-piste action. Nordic skiers will discover plenty of trails from St Jean de Sixt and there's even a sledging run next to the rope lifts opposite the chalet.
Non-skiers are well catered for, and being mid way between La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, guests have plenty of activities to choose from in each resort. In La Clusaz, there are heated indoor and outdoor pools open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides and the exciting ski-joering - skiing while being towed by a horse!
Both towns also have ice rinks and cinemas. After all that excitement why not enjoy some pampering at one of the two spas in La Clusaz - you've earned it!
In the summer, there's so much to see and do in the Aravis when the snow melts, leaving Chalet Alex surrounded by quiet lush green pastures.
If you're feeling adventurous, St Jean de Sixt is one of the only places in the world where you can try Bun-J ride, a cross between ski jumping and bungy jumping! It's open through the summer and winter seasons, but out of peak season, hours are less regular - call ahead to make sure it is open.
The village is also home to an outdoor paintball experience in the forest near Le Danay. Other more traditional pastimes are available too - marked footpaths crisscross the mountains, many starting right from your front door, or you can explore by mountain bike - take the lift to the top of the mountain then come back down at your own pace. You can wash your bike down back at the chalet afterwards and store it inside the locked garage.
There are a number of mountain farms within a walk of the chalet, where you can see the local Reblochon cheese being made - you'll come away with a delicious treat for the walk back. You can cool off at the swimming pool complexes in Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and Thônes, but if you're looking for something a little more challenging, there's a climbing school, via ferrata routes, tree-top adventure parks, canyoning, white-water rafting, horse-riding, karting and paragliding all nearby.
The medieval town of Annecy is 30 minutes away by car - it's a must for a day out, whatever the season. It offers glamorous shops, restaurants, galleries and museums, and Lake Annecy, said to be the cleanest lake in Europe, is a great place for waters sports, swimming, cycling or just relaxing on a grassy beach. Don't forget to book dinner at a lakeside restaurant for the perfect end to a day you won't forget.
For a relaxing day, why not enjoy the peace and quiet of the terrace and garden at Chalet Alex!

From the Owner
For the first time in 25 years, we felt like putting down roots...
It was work that led us to discover the Aravis region, but to our delight, we found that it was magnificent and exciting, with marvellous scenery, a relaxing atmosphere and welcoming people. It was an atmosphere that we found nowhere else, despite moving 14 times in four countries. That's why, for the first time in 25 years, we felt like putting down roots.
Having explored the area and stayed in Le Grand Bornand, Saint Jean de Sixt and La Clusaz, we did not hesitate to chose Saint Jean de Sixt. We loved this village that was busy all year round, ideally situated at the crossroads between La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, near Annecy and Geneva. We happily became the owners of Chalet Alex, named after the lion in the film Madagascar.
Chalet Alex is in Fromaget, a particularly quiet and sunny corner of St Jean de Sixt, close to the ski lift and the Cret toboggan run, hiking, biking and snowshoeing. La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand are both just a short drive away.
We used local craftsmen to renovate the chalet and put our heart into making sure that everyone felt comfortable and enjoyed their stay. We wanted to make it warm and comfortable, like the living room and the mezzanine with sofas and comfy chairs, and the en suite bedrooms with dressing rooms. The large terrace, which has sunshine all day long, is the perfect place to relax while admiring the view of Pointe Percée or La Tournette. For rainy days, we have created three separate areas: a video games area, a mezzanine reading corner and a living room with a home cinema.
Chalet Alex is our haven of peace, and we visit all year round. Every time we find the same tranquility and the same refreshing energy. We particularly love to welcome families and friends, and are happy to share this magical place with you.
Martine and Eric Enselme
Why La Clusaz?
Less than an hour from Geneva, La Clusaz offers Alpine action all year round. A traditional farming village, it not only offers great skiing and superb summer activities, but also a real community feel, whenever you visit. Great restaurants, bars and nightlife combine with local markets, festivals and traditions to give you the best of all worlds.
Thank you for a most enjoyable holiday.
Perfect in every way !

Chalet Alex is an amazing chalet with great facilities. The location of the chalet is a very good one, because it's near beautiful places and nice walks. And we have to mention the outstanding views from the deckchairs.
Some of the favorite with Chalet Alex :
- At night gazing at the stars comfortably
- Sitting in the hot tub with the bubbles on
- Eating outside on an extremly nice table.
And so on ! We enjoyed our stay very much. And hopefully we would stay again !

“We had a really lovely week at Chalet Alex”
We really loved the cleanliness, the top of the range equipment, the welcome from Stephane and the owners, the wonderful light ...We felt really at ease in this cosy chalet, and the amount of space meant we didn't get under each other's feet. We were enchanted by this pretty area. It's a shame there was no snow, but we had no problem keeping ourselves entertained. We are looking forward to coming back.

We have holidayed in chalets in this area for ten years and this is the best chalet we have stayed in. Excellent location, excellent facilities and equipment.

“A perfect chalet...”
Ideal to allow the whole family to relax in a great natural environment without getting in the way of each other. We had 6 sunny days out of 7 and enjoyed walking, cycling, "accrobranche" adventure, reading, playing table tennis, video games, watching films... a great week ! Thank you for the quality and cleanliness of all the equipment: wonderful!

“Everyone was thrilled with our lovely holiday. ”
Everything had been thought of to make sure we had a great time. We had a slight problem with the wifi at the beginning of the holiday, but that was quickly resolved by the owners. Note: Getting to the chalet is a little complicated in bad weather, but for us, there is nothing to say but thank you.

Great memories for both families and their kids. We recommend a session in the hot tub after a day on the piste, ideal to ache sore limbs.

“We had a great week. ”
The weather wasn't great (snow all week), but we made the most of the chalet: reading, films, games, table tennis, PlayStation, table football, the children's corner etc. La Clusaz, five minutes away, is a magnificent station. We will be back!
Mike R. - 06/02/2016

Caroline D. - 30/01/2016
“Big thanks for a fantastic stay in your luxurious chalet”
With lots of sun and enough snow to experience great ski holiday in Grand Bornand resort.
Henk D. - 23/01/2016
“Beautiful, modern and comfortable chalet”
We stayed in Chalet Alex for a long week-end, and absolutely loved it! We were two families with small children and had a great time. The chalet is tucked away in a beautiful small valley, surrounded by a forest and a creek nearby. It has recently been fully renovated and it has the perfect mix of a modernity, sleek design yet cozy chalet atmosphere. All the rooms are very comfortable and spacious (each with their own bathroom - a big plus!). The kitchen is all new, with all the modern appliances you would want, and connects to the living room in an open plan design. On top, the chalet sits literally 2 minutes away from some ski slopes which are ideal for families, and not more than 7-10 minutes from the lovely town of La Clusaz, which gives access to restaurants, lots of skiing, and all the ski resort amenities you’d expect (shops, classes, etc.). In conclusion, beautiful, modern and very comfortable chalet, close to everything you need. Definitely will come back again!

“We had an amazing time at your home”
Many thanks for your hospitality and warmness! The chalet is superbly designed, with plenty of space yet very cosy and comfortable.
It is nicely located between the pine trees, with the small ski resort around the corner which is perfect for learning. Also very close to La Clusaz, with all the restaurant, shops and serious ski slopes.
Our kids really had a blast, in fact, sometimes they still ask us to go back, and they are only 3 years old!
If you liked us as guests :-) we really hope to come back next winter!

“You’ll forget all your worries”
When you come to this chalet you forget everything – you are on holiday. It’s so quiet, the view is magnificent, there are small slopes opposite the chalet, the village is just a walk away and the comfort level certainly deserves four stars. What more could you want?
Raphaëlle T. - 07/03/2015
We were very impressed by how comfortable this chalet is. The south-facing terrace, quiet location just a few steps from the centre of St Jean and five minutes from Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz, not much further to Annecy and the Aravis. We will be back next summer.
